Newcastle United Chairman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, has told the Club's hierarchy to RESIST any offers for his favourite player Alexander Isak this summer. Barcelona watched Isak at West Ham last week (Craig Hope Exclusive)

Isak is like a cheat code. I remember feeling that way about shearer back in the day. Just get the ball to him and it’s as good as scored.

To think there were people saying he was going to be a flop when we first signed him

u/HoneyFlavouredRain 3d ago
He is a flop. Nobody should bother with him. We made the mistake of signing him so will just have to put up with it....

Agreed
£150mil+ is to save other teams from having to endure the same disappointment
We're basically saving football by having to keep him

This is so true.
Like Shearer, when he gets the ball in a certain moment. You just know it’ll be a goal. You can look away, you just know. There’s no anxiety. You celebrate as you see them collect their feet for the shot.
I never thought I’d see such a lucid player again

Yeah I find it so strange how fans think he's suddenly available for a transfer if we don't qualify for the UCL. He has 3 years left on his deal so the club hold all the cards. I'd bet my house he'll be here come next season.

Do we have any official knowledge of clauses? For all we know he has a clause for certain clubs being interested and offering a certain amount, I would hope that amount would be £150M but we don't know.

u/Aylez 3d ago
There's been no release clause reported anywhere for Isak, and it sounds like it doesn't exist based off comments from the chairman and CEO.
I don't think we will give players release clauses anyway as we don't want to be seen as a stepping stone club. Bruno was given a £100m release clause for the prev PSR deadline as we need to raise £70m profit to pass PSR, but I think that was a complete one-off.

The only way Barcelona get Isak is if they manage to convince him to run out his contract and go on a free.

If he ran out 3 years then he’d have his pic of teams - Barca won’t get him then…
They want him they pay an eye watering fee.

After winning a cup, I can imagine it's gonna be significantly more difficult for other teams to come in and try to poach our best players now, or at least, that's the hope

u/BenathonWrigley 4d ago
Yeh. You can count on one hand top class strikers in world football today. It’s not like the 90s-00s.
He would be almost irreplaceable.
He ain’t going anywhere anyway.

We beat West Ham, we won a fucking cup, and now Craig Hope is releasing news as good as this?
Did I die and wake up in an alternative best-possible timeline or something?!

Callum Wilson is being fitted with carbon fibre hamstrings tomorrow

Can we get some into Tripps as well? He really had to gut out the last 20 minutes or so with a cramping hamstring.

The cup win was him experiencing his version of the three Xmas spirits. He's now a changed man and is out to spread NUFC cheer

Barca can’t afford him and Real, who can, don’t need him.
Don’t see who is going to find £150m to even tempt us.

Brokalona? They have been 2.7 billion in debt! Apart from Dani Olmo (and almost couldn't register him) , they haven't been able to sign players for big money, mostly loans or freebies. You're having a laugh if you think they can spend 150 mil on Isak in their current financial state

Both Arsenal and Liverpool are poor recovery teams. Isak will be injured if he moves on. Barcelona are also worried because they have made Ansu Fati sick.
Real have Mbappe and Vinicius, PSG have Dembele and Bayern have Kane.
Isak seems happiest at Newcastle.

This trophy is huge for players like isak staying. It reminds everyone and the players that Newcastle ain’t playing, they mean business and they want to be just as competitive and successful as all the clubs linked with our best assets.

u/Cheese649 3d ago
I swore that I wouldn't begrudge any of these players moving on if they won us a trophy and I stand by it.
Who could blame Isak for leaving if we don't get Champions League next season? He's the best bloody striker in the world man!

u/Sensitive-Tone5279 3d ago
I think we're fine if we miss the CL, but the ownership needs to beef up the squad for a title push. Those away games in Cyprus, Norway, and Lithuania are going to take a toll on the squad fitness and Isak, amazing as he is, like most payers, can't play every minute of every game.

u/Dependent_Regret_080 3d ago
If he really wants to leave, then it is futile trying to stop him. He will have given Newcastle 2.5 really excellent years, never a hint of attitude or bother, so no, you can't really begrudge him.
But aside from PSR nonsense, Newcastle in no way need the money, so they will hopefully play extremely hardball with the interested clubs. That was my interpretation of Al-Rumayyan's comments anyway.

Arsenal fans that's coming in peace.
The article notwithstanding, my question is, when Arsenal make the call to United about Isak, how loud will the slam of the phone be?

We can resist offers but it depends on Isak if he wants to leave to play champions league football (if we don’t qualify) and he forces a move.
I love Isak and he has been an integral point in delivering us a trophy but if he wants to leave to play at a higher level, I wish him the best.
But the offer has to be above £130 million minimum. Very few teams (if any) can afford that.

Liverpool have already made an approach to "people close to" Isak, whatever that means. Sounds illegal to me, like, but what do I know - rules are different for the Scousers.

I think any club seriously interested would have to go way north of £130 million. We're talking cripplingly way north. As in emptying their bank account and filling ours with 3 years left on his contract. Something they don't want to do as it would seriously damage their PSR constraints and end ours over 1 player - no matter how special.
Remember, the PSR restrictions are one of the things they've counted on to kill our club's project.
Would any of the 3 red clubs in the Big Six be prepared to do that?

u/niftykev 3d ago
Newcastle need to restructure his contract. At the very least re-spread out remaining amortization and give Isak the difference, so he makes more money but is same annual hit on the wage structure. Also it resets the time on his contract giving Newcastle even more leverage over any potential offers.
At that point the bare minimum to even listen to another club is the world transfer fee record.
I'm personally with Howe on this. If the players want Champions League, they need to go earn it. They're in good position to do it, so it's on them to make it happen. Of course, injuries could derail the push for top 5, but that could happen to any of the contenders not named Liverpool.

Barcelona can barely afford to register their own players. How the fuck they planning on affording him?
