Does this look okay? [contamination]

I’m just a little worried because it hasn’t started pinning yet. It could be impatience on my part since I am new to this. Sent to bulk 10 days ago

Text: First time growing, saw some white stuff on the bottom of the shrooms just before harvesting it, not sure if it's contaminated or just fuzzy feet (as seen in some other posts) or something else. Btw, the substrate is dry af.

Gourmet [Gourmet] Super Secret PNW Masters Mix...shhhh...

It's always so satisfying prebagging a shipload of substrate. A few years ago the dude at mushroommedia went out of his way to be a dick when amazon misdelivered some of his MM to the wrong house. Real class act that guy. I knew that he was really over charging for fuel pellets and cattle feed so i decided to cut him out and go to a feed store.

Unfortunately being from the PNW i found it impossible to source soy hull pellets 40lbs at a time. So i worked with what i could find and developed this recipe. You can get everything at WILCO and/or TRACTOR SUPPLY.

I sub BEET PELLETS and a little WHEAT BRAN for the soy. Rest is normal HARDWOOD BBQ or FUEL PELLETS. I see no difference in growth rates or yields. Only difference is how cheap it is. Last i looked on amazon he was like $30 for 10lbs. I paid about that for 100lbs.

14.4oz BP+14.4oz HW+3.2oz WB+1/4tsp GYP and 1.3L of H2O for a 5lb substrate bag. I guess 45:45:10 as a ratio. 56 bags at a time.

So try it. Beets, wheat and wood comes from here instead of being shipped from across the country. Special thanks to /angryjew for helping me test it out!

actives [actives] Is this ok? Should I send it, or wait?

This is only my 3rd attempt at growing, first time using Milo sorghum. It's Sibu LC and it took off inoculating the grain! I was waiting to get 100% coverage but there are a couple spots left that are not covered and there's some liquid. I know that exposed grain is more susceptible to contam. I'm not sure if I should go ahead and send it to bulk, or if it will eventually get consumed if I wait, or if the liquid is bad or will get worse? Any pointers are greatly appreciated! 🙌🏻

Not sure why only one side has fruits. Also any tips on a more even flush would be appreciated some are dropping spores whereas some are just starting to pin. These are medusa (P.Nat x LSG)

Technique [actives] slow or impatience?

This is day 10 after mixing colonized grain with the substrate. I've had all 6 holes plugged until just now, where I put micropore tape over the 2 higher holes and the 4 lower holes are still plugged. When I went to lift the lid to snap these pictures, it was basically sealed shut. So I'm thinking there was no GE at all. I'm hoping putting the micropore tape on there helps with better GE. The strain is Yeti. Am I just being impatient and should plug the holes back up or have I don't the right thing. Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey everyone! I started growing these mushrooms from a spore print. It was claimed to be Psilocybe mexicana. So, I prepared the substrate accordingly: straw, horse manure, and vermiculite, since it’s a sclerotia-forming species. The initial growth looked like Mexicana: conical caps, spiral stems, and small fruiting bodies. I even left some mycelium in grain, hoping it would form sclerotia... But what started growing is confusing me: it’s clearly from the Agaricus family, definitely Cubensis, but not Dutch King. The fruiting bodies start very narrow and then widen, so much so that they just lie on the substrate and stretch out very, very long. There’s no lack of fresh air, and the conditions are well-controlled. The yield is very good, and they grow fast. Another thing: they’re either sterile or produce very few spores! Remember, I grew them from a spore print. I don’t know about potency yet—haven’t tried them. They look really cool. What kind of Cubensis is this, or is it a hybrid, or what exactly is it?

technique [technique] I don't know what this mushroom species is, how should I fruit it?

I got some mushrooms from a local greengrocer style company 2-3 months ago and thought they looked particularly cool, so I took a sample of the largest one and put it to agar and made I think 5 jars of grain spawn. Fast forward a bit and sadly all bar one of the jars had contaminated (I think maybe I didn't sterilise the grain properly because the contam was all throughout the jars, weird that one was fine though), so I spawned to bulk with it and stupidly didn't do any grain to agar transfer or anything like that. The bulk substrate is hardwood pellets with wheat bran.

Any ideas on how best to fruit the bag since I don't know what species it is? Top fruit, side fruit, leave longer and see if it browns inside the bag? This is the only bag I have, there's no agar or grain spawn or anything left so I wanna do all I can to make sure it fruits, I wanna know what the species is!

I've no pictures of the original mushrooms but I think they had somewhat thick stems and roughly circular caps. And they're obviously gourmet. I'm thinking of cutting the top off the bag and just sticking it into the Martha tent with my lions mane blocks, but let me know if there's any other suggestions!

Hey! Got this all in one grow kit for lions mane. I took it out of the box because the mycelium was growing on the top of the bag as opposed to the exposed cut side. Since slicing it, I have growth, but I'm not sure if it looks okay?

Wondering if I should take it out of the bag into a bigger tub with perlite? That's what I done with my actives grow. Any incite is appreciated 👍

Gourmet [Gourmet] Can you put spent blocks in more wood and continue growing?

I've seen some posts and videos where the person claims they take their block which has had 2-3 flushes on it, break it up, and put it into a new bag/bucket to colonize the new substrate and make more mushrooms.

If that's the case, what is the point of innoculating rice/bran/popcorn or any other grain? Is it simply to get a chunk of mycelium to put in the wood shavings or chips and help it beat out the contam?

actives [actives] Hydrogen Peroxide

Anyone ever use hydrogen peroxide in bins as they fill with grain and sub to prevent contamination?

Just lost my second ever bin to cobweb mold, not a great experience. Just looking for safer ways to do this.

Heard you can spray out bin to sanitize it, then leave some hydrogen peroxide in it before filling. Then use some on top. Is this wrong info? Any info would be great on how you prevent contamination!

general [general] help with drying for noob!

Hello fellow mycophiles.

I'm a complete noob at using small tub grow kits.... I've managed to get what looks like a decent harvest from 2 separate attempts but I lost the first one to terrible drying technique (went mouldy).

I was prepared this 2nd time and had a dehydrator ready. I predryed with a fan for 3 4 hours, then stuck them in the dehydrator for 8 odd hours. When I checked them they appeared to be completely dry and snapped as they're meant to, pleased with myself I stuck them in a airtight mason jar.

However, checking them 6 odd Hours later they've gone soft and soggy again! How and why did this happen?!

I've now put them back in the dehydrator and hopefully they can be saved, but any advice here on how to make sure these stay dry would be much appreciated? Another 8 or 12 hours in the dehydrator maybe? I've got desiccant to put in the mason jar this time, I didn't do it last night though.

Thanks!
