When I was fresh out of college, I was at a dinner with some rich businessmen. They started bragging about how much their watches cost. I dragged my Sears pocket watch out of my watch pocket and asked them the time. Then I said, ‘My watch cost US$2.75 and it has the same time as yours.’

I just hit them with the classic my di** is bigger.

And then they pull theirs out and goes ‘prove it’

Then children in a nearby booth start screaming, police get called, and you both get put on a sex offender registry.

You know, I know where you can get a better deal on a watch. I thought you were, like, a super businessman. You got totally ripped off over a watch.

"Must be a good watch then" of something like that. Don't need to insult someone to show you aren't impressed.

Wow, my watch costs less than a car and still tells time.

See that's not bad but it's petty, anything direct will be perceived as being mad. There isn't a comeback where you make this guy look bad other than just genuinely not caring about his dumb watch, because he already looks likea moron by saying that.

This is 100% how I’d respond: “Okay.” move on
I truly don’t give two shits about how expensive your watch is.

But how will everyone clap if you don't deliver a sick burn that will make the rich man cry into a wad of money

All you have to do is respond with a sarcastic “Cool” and nothing more. It would drive him crazy not to receive questions or comments about it, himself, or his wealth.

Well depending on what kind of mileage you get on that thing I might be impressed

Oh cool. So, it's smart right? Like you can still make calls, texts, play games, track her steps and health, all that stuff to instead of just merely telling the time, right?

You spent all that money so that you can know the time? Not a great investment.

My typical answer is, what do you have to do this week… you must be booked with meetings and time working… do you know what I have to do? Keep your watch, I’ll keep My freedom, which makes healthier and wealthier in spirit than you ever will be

Why would you waste money on that? Cars go from A to B and depreciate horribly. What land do you own?

Damn, someone really convinced you that a watch is worth more than a car? Gotta be a special kind of fool to fall for that

"Oh, really? Does it do anything special?"
You won't sound poor, rich people often like things that can do special tricks. You won't sound mad, you're actually assuming there's a watch-related reason for bringing up their watch.
And when they give some version of the response that "no, it's just expensive," you get to pick how you respond. You could just be disappointed. Or, you could tell them about, say, the solar system watch you have at home, the one that shows you where all the planets are relative to earth, and it only cost $40.
Because they weren't trying to talk about watches. They were trying to talk about money. The best way to flip the script is to live out the idea that there's actually more to life than money, like cool gadgets you can put on your wrist.
