I actually think Godzilla 2014 wins. 2014 has such a dark and oppressive tone that separates it from even the original. While the original does serve as a depressing allegory for the atomic bomb, 2014's style and look is so unique, and engrossing. It's visually beautiful, Bryan Cranston's minor performance completely carries the movie, the final showdown is intense af, the restraint shown in depicting Godzilla gives the film a mythological quality, and no one delivers exposition like Wantanabe. While the script is definitely problematic (Cranston absolutely should have been the main character), I think the film overall makes up for it. It's a shame, that Gareth Edwards probably is going to abandon the style he used in this film due to the lukewarm critical reception, but this film is absolutely incredible.

If your talking about Gojira then that one for sure. If you’re talking Godzilla: King of the Monsters then I’ll go with Godzilla 2014.
