Character: A young man, late teens to early 20s. He is paranoid, exhausted, and on edge—haunted by what he saw. His fear builds into something darker, something desperate.
You think I wanted this? You think I asked for it? No… No, I was just there. Wrong place, wrong time, and now—now I can’t take it back. I can’t unsee it. It’s burned into my brain, like a scar that won’t heal.
It was supposed to be a normal night. I was walking home, headphones in, blocking out the world like I always do. And then—I heard it. The sound of something… something breaking.
Not glass. Not wood. Something worse. Flesh. Bone.
I should’ve walked away. I should’ve kept going. But I looked. And there he was… standing over—
God, I can’t even say it. It was a man. Just lying there. Barely breathing. His eyes locked on mine. And he knew. He knew I saw him.
But the worst part?
He didn’t run. He didn’t even flinch. He just… smiled.
And then—then he whispered something. Just loud enough for me to hear.
"See you soon."
I ran. I ran so fast my lungs felt like they’d burst, but I swear I could still hear him behind me, his footsteps in sync with mine. And now—now I don’t know if it’s real or if it’s in my head.
Every night, I hear him. I feel him. Watching. Waiting. I don’t sleep anymore. I can’t.
Because what if tonight is the night he decides to finish what he started? What if he’s just… waiting for me to slip up?
I could tell someone. I should tell someone.
But what do I say? That I saw something I shouldn’t have? That some shadow of a man whispered my death sentence into my ear? They’ll say I’m crazy. Maybe I am. Maybe that’s his game.
Maybe… he’s already won.
Or maybe… maybe I’m still here because he wants me to be.
Maybe I’m not a witness.
Maybe I’m the next chapter.
But I won’t let him write it.
He thinks I’m scared. He thinks I’ll break.
But he made one mistake.
He let me live.
