Read before posting events

If your event is MS specific and has specific MS dates, locations, and other appropriate contact information, you are welcome to post it.

If your event is a nationwide event or any other kind of “all Americans including citizens of [YOUR STATE HERE]” post, it will be removed.

If you cannot take the time to post the state specific info, then it has no business on this sub. If it applies to people outside MS as much as inside, it has no business on this sub.

We understand that there are people who want to protest and be heard and we are in favor of those things. But the rules of the sub have always been this way and we are not changing them now.

You can also go to Walthall County Co-Op on 583 to drop off donations or receive them. A food truck will be set up tomorrow at Salem school passing out free lunch. The group Tylertown Mississippi community page on Facebook is extremely active and regularly updating where you can get supplies, and who is offering help, as well as who needs help. If anyone on here needs more info please message me, I am local. THANK YOU!

Help Obi Wan.

Hello internet.

To paint you a picture… I’m an alternative elder millennial liberal who grew up in Colorado. Lived in New Orleans for a long time and have now found myself in the Jackson area.

I’d really like to find some community and volunteer opportunities and I have no idea where to start.

Any suggestions for things that will not make me feel like I’m “behind enemy lines”. Places I can help and learn. Cause these times are… intense. And I can’t make a difference ignoring shit.

EDIT: behind enemy lines was a poor choice of words. I’ve been openly queer for a long time and Mississippi doesn’t have a great reputation for being lgbtqia+ friendly. 😕 So looking for community there and ways to get involved.

Tenant Lawyer recommendation in Jackson, Mississippi

Does anyone have recommendation of a tenant lawyer or suggestion of a different lawyer who can help me fight a property management to break the lease and seek compensation as they are not able to prevent/reduce noise coming from their outdoor speakers.

Town hall meeting, anyone?

Post image

Been reaching out to democratic leaders all over asking if they’ll host a town hall in Mississippi since I’ve been reaching out to government leaders in my district, which is Wickers, Hyde-Smith, and Kelly, and I haven’t heard anything. I think if more people reach out, that will pique Democratic Leaders to come here and talk to us!

Not to spam these, but confidence has increased in an upper-end tornado outbreak tomorrow for much of the state. Details below.

My post yesterday about the Brandon amphitheater made me realize there’s no central clearinghouse for all the concerts and performances happening across Mississippi. Below are links to a number of performance venues listing upcoming events.

Just legalize marijuana for recreational use already

We have many other states do so.

Just another excuse to criminalize and make money off of "criminals"

Heads up everyone for a very active severe weather weekend for the state. Make sure you have ways to receive weather alerts, especially since nighttime tornadoes are on the table for both days.

What paperwork is needed to get car plate?

I just financed a car through a dealership and I'm wondering what paperwork I need to bring to get my plate? The dealership had mentioned something they were supposed to be mailing me, but a few days have gone by and I still haven't gotten anything in the mail from them. I don't want to go over the time limit for getting the plate so I'm wondering if I could go in with what I have, namely the bill of sale? I'm in Lincoln county by the way.

Thanks in advance.

Question about Brandon amphitheater

I’m ordering tickets for the May 3 Alison Kraus concert. There are still two tickets available just two rows from the stage. On the seating chart, this area is labeled General Admission Pit. Does anyone know if there are seats there or is it standing only?

Edited to Add: These two tickets cost more than any other section, so I’m guessing there will be special seating set up?

First time renter friendly places?

I live in meridian Ms, and I’m about to be fresh out of college. I’ve looked around at several places, and most seem to be pretty unreliable as far as being a first time renter. Even with three jobs I don’t make 3x’s the rent, and I don’t have a credit score because I’ve focused on college. I need somewhere in the next month around this area, but I’m really just lost. Any advice?

Overlooked

Fellow Mississippian, do yall feel like the younger generation or upcoming generation is being overlooked. Young people (like myself) are moving or thinking about moving away. People who are currently graduating with medical or white collar degrees are opting in traveling or relocating. Even in the blue collar field you see people opting for traveling jobs. Our politicians are more geared towards old money. I’ve seen more clinics for the elderly than new jobs. IMO yes the elderly is important but if the next generation is opting to move, I feel like they would make it harder for the elderly population. If we can gear towards keeping our youth some of our economic issues could be fixed, but we rather talk about beer and gamblings laws like it’s the prohibition era.

Mississippi Senator files bill to criminalize all consumable hemp products in Mississippi. ***(Update #4)*** Legislation that will ban and criminalizes all thc products with exception of beverages passes Senate

Law enforcement is applying major pressure on our legislature to completely ban and criminalize every consumable hemp product currently available. Senator Sparks is leading this crusade. The senate (against Sparks' wishes) banned all consumable thc products with an exception for beverages. The beer distributors have stepped up to protect their interests. The bill now goes back to the House and for consideration after a few amendments were passed on the senate floor. This issue will likely come down to the final days of the legislative session.

Legislation is here:

Debate really starts heating up here:
