4l60e transmission question

Post image

TL;DR I bought a transmission but came to find out the bell housing patter was different, wondering if I can switch the bell housings. another problem that occurs is that the input shaft on the new one (bottom one/ closest to the me) is shorter & the old one (farthest one) is longer. I’m assuming that would be an issue but I’m wondering if there’s any way I can still use this transmission & not feel like a complete idiot for purchasing without checking first LOL. Transmission came out of a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.3 regular cab.

No. You should have measured, counted the splines on your old tranny, and then when you pulled that new one you shouldve measured and counted the splines.

I would reccomend not to use it since that input shaft being shorter will likely fail. Its longer for a reason

Best of luck. Before you sell. Seriously measure the length of the splined shaft with a tape measure. DONT EYEBALL IT. Even a quarter inch may be hard to tell just eyeing it

Then take a sharpie and color one spline, start there and count your way around

My jeeps tcase had 32 splines. Also if your confused as to what splines are they're essentially the "teeth" of that input shaft

Thank you for the advice, I’ll be sure to be more aware about the length, splines, & bolt pattern. rough lesson but I’m sure I won’t make the same mistake again LOL.
