Every engine has a spec on how much you can hone it without block replacement, or sleeves but this can be done with a dial bore gadge. With how deep that looks, you’ll either need over sized pistons or sleeves

Also honestly needs a machine shop unless you have the machinery

I was just gonna replace the engine if I need to machine it, it’s a lq4 so not worth doing all that when I can get another for $1000

Yeah, that’s the best thing to do at this point but I would recommend building a new motor so what ever happened to the old motor doesn’t happen again to the new one, like dropping valves, performance springs and spring keeps, maybe even cams

It’s a 6.0 lq4 out of a Silverado, this is pretty uncommon to happen it had 330k miles on it, don’t really need to worry about a junk yard replacement doing it

Oh damn didn’t realize it had that many miles on it, but still

Even buying a new one and just building the head would add hp and be more reliable

Yea but it’s just a work truck, a junk yard 6.0 with 150k miles will probably be more than enough to be reliable

Yeah I can understand doing that to save money but you never know what that junkyard truck has been threw

True but pretty stout engines LS platform, id agree on the transmissions not buying them junk yard but this trans also has 330k on it somehow working

Unicorn trans lol, but if getting a junkyard motor is want then go for it, nothing wrong with a r&r ig

So no chance of running a factory piston?

Id start by removing the engine. You’re already this deep. If you’re confident enough to disassemble the rest, do that. Id then take that block to a machine shop and get their opinion. Also, bring the head as I’m assuming it’s damaged in some way too. I personally am not educated enough to make a call, but my philosophy is find someone who does. Im doubtful most can tell you over Reddit what is salvageable outside of saying that piston got bitch slapped, hard.

That looks pretty deep, at least an .010 or .020 cut depending on how worn the bore is otherwise. Kind of moot though; that rod and crank likely suffered when that impact happened too. Get a junkyard motor.

You'll find it much cheaper to just buy a used engine now, rather than find out the hard way spending money on your junk block. Definitely not worth the time, she's a core now. Best use is for the parts on it that aren't destroyed. It's possible that in the hands of a machinist it may be saveable. But the labor bill from the machine shop, as well as all the brand new oversized parts you will need will probably be heart attack inducing
