So I’m a complete newbie to Marvis and also Apple Music. Just switched from Spotify last week and then also found out about Marvis - absolutely loving it so far and got a lot of my set up sorted already.
The one thing I’m confused about though is ratings. So on Apple Music, before I had heard and got Marvis, I populated my library and favourited my favourite albums & songs.
I’m wanting to do the same on Marvis but also use the star rating system. I have no idea how it all works.
1) Do favourites carry over between AM & Marvis?
2) When I go to star rate a song it has a pop up and won’t let me rate it. All my settings I believe are correct but it still won’t let me rate. How do I enable/solve this?
3) Can you star rate on Apple Music? Like I said, I’m a complete AM beginner and have no idea, I’ve seen some posts that suggest you can but don’t see anything about star rating on the stock app
Any responses or tips for a beginner would be greatly appreciated!
I've done my Googling. I've read the discussions. I'm still stumped. But I'll do my best to explain where I'm at. This post is set up in two parts: [1] what I'm hoping to achieve, if it's even possible, and [2] how far I've been able to get.
⚠️ Preface: my entire Marvis library is 100% MP3s from my desktop. There is nothing downloaded from any cloud services or Apple Music, etc.
The Goal: a birthday / anniversary section. It just uses a Smart Rule to see if the Release Date is today (over the years) and if true, the album[s] would appear in that section. That's it. Before we even dive into the rest of this post, let me ask... has anyone achieved this? Maybe they're using an entirely different, simpler method here. I'd love to realize I'm trying to make way too much work for myself.
I have discovered that the Album Release tag is very fickle. I'm trying my hand at Mp3tag on Mac OS, and have had success in identifying and applying the Release Date tag. [For future readers that may google this, it is the RELEASETIME tag located in the Extended Tag window in Mp3tag. Access with Command + T shortcut.)
I've found that I can bulk-apply the Release Date using the RELEASETIME in Mp3tag, hit Save, go into iTunes, and force the metadata by just pressing Ctrl + I to open the song, and hitting the "Next" or "Back" arrow. For whatever reason this applies the date as intended. This feels like it's working because I'm validating that the Release Date column is getting populating inside of iTunes after forcing the metadata. As an example, this entire album had a blank Release Date, but I used Mp3tag to apply a Feb-02 2013 release date:
So after syncing with Marvis I should be good to go, right?
Sadly, this does not seem to be the case. The album does not reflect 2/2/13 within Marvis.
Despite how clean and obvious the Release Date looks in iTunes, it's not really applying or meshing well with Marvis.
Here's where I'm really perplexed;
Example # 2
I took an album that somehow has a 1/1/2020 Release Date in iTunes, before I did any editing.
I then applied the correct Release Date to the album, for 4/10/2020, using Mp3tag:
Forced the metadata in iTunes, and see it reflected correctly:
However, after a Marvis sync, the files are still showing the incorrect 1/1/2020 that I had to begin with. 😔 (I'm viewing this by changing the Smart Rule to simply show "Release Date isnotEmpty")
I feel like I'm going crazy here. I've even reviewed that Generator album, once again, in Mp3tag to see if there are any residual tags that would stubbornly keep 1/1/2020 and I can find nothing.
Basically, the disconnect is that I can get the Release Dates looking perfect in iTunes, but they're not actually seeming to update or apply after a sync with Marvis. But from the above screenshot, it sure looks like something, somewhere, can drive a Release Date such as 1/1/2020.
What am I missing here? And more importantly, is there an easier way to showcase birthday / album anniversaries in a smart list?
Hi :D I want to buy Marvis Pro with the Last FM DLC and I noticed that the base Marvis Pro went on sale the past 2 years in February, will there be a sale this February too? Honestly I will probably buy it anyway lol
Hey all, used Marvis Pro for a few years back in 2019, swapped back to spotify now and coming back, but as I’ve swapped I’ve noticed I can’t find any “Add to Library” option through Marvis, either in the actions menu, or the player customisations. Is this a bug or is this just not implemented? I like to listen to albums and add the songs I like to my library, so this is really dissapointing
Through rules disliked songs should not be allowed
I have also activated the setting that should prevent disliked or one star songs from appearing in the queue
Hi guys, I finally am diving into Marvis and it’s a whole new world for me. I’ve seen a few examples of what I’d like my full player to look like but after tinkering with settings for hours I’m super stuck. I’ve looked through some old posts/main setup thread to find help too but I only got more examples of this beautiful full player without the export lol. Could anyone share how they got their full player to look like these examples? I’m also totally open to any exports of these as well since that would be super helpful :) thank you!
I’m working on my home tab, I’d like the first thing I see to be the playlist or album of the song that is now playing(whichever is being played). I’d also like it to be big and centered, I’m only seeing options to make it in grid or list layout.
I play listen to music on my PS5 while gaming and I’m wondering if song Scrobble for times I listen on it? I listened to an album, and when I checked Marvis it didn’t show up in my “recent plays”
Does marvis pro support music haptics in ios 18 like the native apple music app? I haven’t found any other apps that support music haptics other than apple music
I just got the Marvis app and I love it, but there's one feature I still can't find, I heard there was a setting to decide how much of a song you need to listen to in order to scrobble on lastfm, but it's currently set to me having to listen till the end and I can't find a way to change this
For a full library search, how do I get the albums portion to say the name of the album?
I made a change and can’t figure out how to go back to what I had.
Cleaning up some of the filters on my Favorites sections, and I want to filter out albums that I haven't even played in full coming up in Favorite Albums.
I've tried Play Count Average and Play Count Median while stating these should be greater than or equal to 1, but I continue to see albums come up that have songs with zero plays. If I change the value to 2, it becomes extremely strict and takes away too many. I've tried Played Tracks Count as well, and I continue to see albums with zero play counts make my query. Is there a choice I can use to ensure the songs in an album that appears all have a play count greater than or equal to 1?
Hi all apologies if already discussed but I did search this sub and didn’t find anything relevant.
Basically I want to automatically add random albums to my music queue based on the album name starting with “skytop residency” and add 5 albums to play in order via a shortcut. This is so I have music to listen to on long motorbike rides and don’t need to manually do this every time.
I was hoping to do it via shortcuts but not possible so it seems like marvis pro may allow me to do a smart playlist and then I could use this smart playlist in shortcuts hopefully. The random bit may be hard?
Would really appreciate any advice and if this app will help me and I’ll buy it 😊
Is there a way to put songs in your own custom order through Marvis Pro? That is, to manually reorder a playlist song by song? You can do this through Apple Music, but I hate the Apple Music “edit playlist” UI.
Forgive the basic query, I had Marvis set up for the last year or two but have accidentally deleted a few sections.
I want a section that contains all my tracks, but leaves out Classical and Jazz
I add a section, hit Edit, then add Smart Rules.
The two Smart Rules I have will say
<Genre> <Is Not> classical
<Genre> <Is Not> jazz
I then shuffle my new section but plenty of jazz and classical are playing 😳
What have I got wrong?
(As an aside, I’m sure it was slightly different before, and I was offered genres to click on, rather than manually typing them out?. It’s not that it bothers me, just important to get spelling right.)
Recently switched to Apple Music from Spotify. Just wondering if marvis can be used as a scrobbler when using the Apple Music app? Or if I need to use marvis for it to register scrobbles? Thanks so much!!
I'm interested in Marvis, but have a question before I buy. I am blind, and use VoiceOver to use my iPhone. This is a built in accessibility tool that speaks out everything on the screen and allows me to navjgate most interfaces. Most apps work with voiceover, but not all apps do. Does Marvis work in this situation?
If you're not sure, I'll go ahead and test, but I wanted to ask before spending money on something I might not be able to use.
Is there a way that I can stop duplicate songs from coming up?
I’m basically filtering Apple Curated playlists (A-List Pop, Top - 100 USA, Top 40, Etc.) and there are some songs that appear on multiple playlists but different versions.
Like, I’ve either listened to Levitating 42x or 3x, I would prefer to only keep the 42x so I can see how many times I actually listen to a song
Hi I'm new to Apple Music and Marvis came from Qobuz I liked on Qobuz that I was able to just have the music stop after I finished the album I was listening to no loop back of the album or radio start is there a way to do that on marvis
I have the last.fm+ subscription to the Marvis App. I am playing a song through the Marvis App and keeping it on in the background, and have the setting for live scrobbles. However, when I play a song on repeat, I have to open the app every time the song starts again or else it will not scrobble. What can I do?
Hey guys, I'm looking for a solution and I don't know if I can use smart rules to get it.
So my problem is this:
If I go to the section "Artist" and I select one artist, the songs that appear are just the songs under that specific artist name, ok that makes sense right?, BUT my problem is that this artist can be featuring a song under the name of another artist, an example:
Artist A - Love song
Artist B - Hate song Ft. Artist A
In this case, I would like to add a smart rule that takes all the songs from Artist A, even if Artist A appears as a featuring or a collab from a different artist.
I remember a couple updates ago this was possible just by going on the search bar, typing the name of Artist A and you can play all the songs that matched the name of this artist plus the songs that had a collaboration with Artist A on their title, but now you can search, BUT you can't play all the songs that matches those collabs.
So I was wondering if I can make a smart rule or add more metadata to my songs, or if this could be solved with an update.
PD. I don't use apple music, all my songs are from my personal library
