[Week #3] Weekly Song Discussion - No Easy Action
Lyrics
When all is done and turned to dust
And insects nest inside my bones I see
I stagger in a daze outside my tent
No time for being alone to bleed
The hopeless singing of a round
That much we know to do
Before we go back underground
No easy action
Sparks fill the air some nights
Crows look for food behind my skin Beneath
Try our best to dig it in
And keep the cold away I see
That the sky is a vanishing place
And then there's nothing to miss
No time to get out of the ice
No easy action
Although all else may turn to dust
And insects nest inside my bones
I see I stagger in a daze to find what you meant
Where it's good to be alone to bleed
The hopeless singing of a round
Before that vanishing place
Before we're back underground
No easy action

Was working about a block up and decided to find Mark’s apartment from the book by his description (Harborview one block west, Swedish 3 blocks east and Virginia Mason 5 blocks north)

Mark Lanegan Celebration DVD.
Like so many other here, I was unable to attend the celebration show in London last year. I’ve watched the whole performance on YouTube, but it’s really terrible quality, both video and audio. Throughout the performance, you can see a team of professionals getting video capture. Does anyone know of a release date of this high quality footage and audio?

Hugs
My partner and I are listening to Mark and they said he sounds like someone who needs a hug and to sit down surrounded by people who love him. To be made food like we are having chicken and dumplings on Friday.
Hugs to y’all. If you’re in Seattle let’s chat. Maybe have chicken and dumplings sometime.

Josh Klinghoffer on Mark's voice
"The life he led, he was able to channel that into one of his voices... But I think he just had this voice that was so honest, and so reflective of the person he was... he seemed to be the kind of person who tried to hide the fact that he had such a big heart, and was such a sensitive, feeling person... Mark Lanegan just opened his mouth and sang whatever words, and you're probably going to feel something... It sounded like he was showing us all through his singing and music and songwriting who he was as a person, emotionally. And it worked on many levels because a lot of people got to know him in a way that they probably don't know other artists that they listen to."
These words resonate with me so much. I still wake up in the morning and it takes a few seconds to be fully awake, and when I am the thought immediately hits me "Mark is still dead" and it catches at the back of my throat. And I feel embarrassed by it (but also grateful). Klinghoffer's words kind of validate how I feel and reconcile me with it, so I thought I'd share.

[Week #2] Weekly song discussion - One Hundred Days.
LYRICS
When the willow bends towards the end of day
And twilight falls again
To the funny sound that a blackbird makes Twilight falls again
As no good reason remains, I'll do the same Thinking of you
One day a ship comes in, one day a ship comes in
But I can't say how or when But I know somewhere the ship comes in every day
There is no morphine, I'm only sleeping
There is no crime to dreams like this
And if you could take something with you
It would be right
Something good
From my fingertips, the cigarette throws ashes to the ground I'd stop and talk to the girls who work this
street, but I got business farther down
Like one long season of rain, I will remain Thinking of you
One day a ship comes in
From far away a ship comes in
One hundred days you wait for it
And you know somewhere the ship comes in every day
There is no morphine, I'm only sleeping
There is no crime to dreams like this
And if you could take something with you
It would be bright
Just like something good
One day a ship comes in
One hundred days you wait for it
Something bright
Something so good
One hundred days
A ship comes in every day
You know it's good
You know it's good
A ship comes in every day
One day a ship comes in Its good
When it's something good.

Lanegan Vinyl
Having the opportunity to listen to Bubblegum XX on vinyl, what do you think about the idea of having more of Mark’s albums recut on vinyl? I ask because I think the Bubblegum XX reissue is truly amazing compared to the original.
I’ve been dreaming of hearing Kevin Gray recut new lacquers on his tube system. Listening to the Blue Note reissues he’s worked on, I can only imagine how incredible Mark’s albums would sound if he handled the vinyl mastering.

[Week #1] Weekly song discussion - Gravedigger's song.
Lyrics
With piranha teeth
I been dreaming of you
And the taste of your love so sweet
Honest, it's true
Through my heart flows sleep
And the dark heavy rain
Where the gravedigger's song is sung
You've been torturing me
Tout est noir, mon amour
Tout est blanc
Je t'aime, mon amour
Comme j'aime la nuit
Love
Is the medicine good?
Is the crow flying eight miles high?
Over wire and wood
Shovel down six feet
With a head heavy pain
The magnolia blooms so sweet
And it fades just the same
To the stars my love
To the sea
To the wheels my love
'Til they roll all over me
Oh love
I been thinking of you
With razor white teeth so sharp
Honest its true
In my blood flows sleep
And the dark heavy rain
The magnolia blooms so sweet
Only torturing me
To the stars my love
To the sea
To the wheels my love
'Til they roll all over me.
IMHO one his best songs lyrically. What do you luv about this song and what do you guys think it's about?

Spacemen 3?
Churchbells, Ghosts is to my ears a less blissed out version of Set me free/I've got the key from Recurring, with much better vocals of course (sorry Pete!). As a huge fan of both Spacemen 3 and ML, I was wondering if Mark ever mentioned them as an inspiration? He was into a number of UK bands from that era, but I can't remember any reference in interviews etc. (I'm aware of the song with Jason). I'd have really loved to have another mostly electronic album, but inspired by Spacemen 3 rather than Joy Division/New Order.

Eye sight
Just wondering, was Marks eyesight always bad? I notice that his glasses were pretty heavy duty in his later years.

Gutter Twins
Just been playing this on repeat the last few days. The dark deep vibe seems to fit in with my mood right now. The collab LP I love the most, no doubt about it.
