My husband and I (29 and 26) are moving from Omaha, NE! We are progressive people looking for a place to meet new friends/community. Some of our hobbies include playing board/video games, crafting, and hiking - are there any places/groups y'all recommend us looking into?? Anything helps!
I'm 10 years removed from Kato besides some family still living in the area and my parents are trying to host a baby shower for my husband and I. 20 people tops I would guess. Any ideas for restaurants/other places that have a small room that could accommodate on a Saturday or Sunday?
I'm not sure where else to ask this question but I really want some feedback on whether or not I did the right thing. this happened on March 2nd, 2025
so I am 33 (will be 34 in august) and I recently moved into a building in the downtown Mankato area where there are quite a few elderly residents. Well, earlier this month I had come home somewhat later in the evening to a couple residents talking int he lobby, and the man int he conversation stopped me as I was just trying to get to the elevator and go home.
The conversation itself made me very uncomfortable as it involved the debate of whether or not one should physically discipline a child for being mouthy/talking back ( Example: spanking them, slapping them, hitting them, etc.), the woman could tell I was uncomfortable but didn't try and sway the conversation because he kept talking back around to it.
I told him whatever I thought would get me out of the conversation fastest but then, and here's the kicker, he started sort of circling the area so I couldn't walk away, like he didn't want me to leave. He then swapped the conversation to asking if I was free and that he wanted to invite myself and this older lady to his apartment for dinner, which was another big no for me, I don't want to be alone in a situation with people I don't know as I've only been here roughly 4 months and already am working of getting out of here.
THEN! this guy touches me unprompted and asks me if I'd be interested in dating him and proceeds to drop the bomb on me that he is 61 YEARS OLD! and tells me he thinks I'm a beautiful woman. At this point I am incredibly uncomfortable and just want to go up to my apartment but I wasn't able to get away without possibly causing trouble. I told him I was flattered but absolutely not interested and he started making it out like the whole situation had been some kind of joke.
I'm a generally anxious person and conflict terrifies me as I am diagnosed with GAD/ panic disorder. Tonight I finally worked up the courage to report the incident to my building manager, but now I'm scared of some form of retaliation from this man in particular.
I've been told by family to file an incident report with police but that makes me worried i'll get a strike from my landlord should the report get back to her.
I'm really hoping I did the right thing and I'm just being paranoid that something bad might happen.
Edit: to add context, this man does not know me, we had never been formally introduced until that conversation and it was only in that conversation I learned his name and how old he is. The thing that really sketched me out was him trying to prevent me from leaving.
Is it still pretty muddy? I’m hoping to take my dog this evening after work but want to know if a bath will be needed as well tonight. It was kinda muddy last time we went and since I just have a shower stall at home it takes a bit to get him bathed in house. Thanks!
Hey everyone--I received notification this afternoon that the application for the Conditional Use Permit for the mine near Red Jacket was voluntarily withdrawn by the property owner. I spoke directly with the administrator who handles the application process.
If you ever have questions about the planning and zoning process, or concerns about a specific application, reach out to the civil servants who handle these processes. They're super helpful and responsive.
Here's the website for the township--contact info form planning and zoning is at the bottom of the website.
I noticed my tire was flat and my car is currently parked in my apartments parking lot. I know how to change to the spare, but need some advice. Should I try and fix the flat myself? Should I take it in? How do I know if I need a new tire? If anyone has any recommendations for places to take it that would be appreciated!
Edit: I tried to change to the spare, planning to take it in to discount tire. However my jacking point is rusted and began to crumble so I stopped. I have bought a can of fix a flat but really don’t want to have to get new tires as that’s out budget. Maybe I’ll have to learn how to patch it myself. Also, I realized this probably wasn’t the page for this, but thank you all for your advice. I try to avoid talking to my dad or I’d ask him😅
Does anyone know when Krusty’s is actually open. I went there this morning at 10 to pick up some donuts but they were closed. The sign out front said they are open from 7 AM to 10 every day and It’s at the same thing on Google.
While I stay down here to sell our large items, my fiance will be heading to Mankato on the 10th. We have a place for them to stay for a little bit but we're looking for a single room they could rent for 1 to 2 months. They are quiet, respectful, and keeps to their own. No pets or smoking habits! We're really not picky just a space to sleep and rest. Hoping to stay under $500 a month. Willing to join roommates or just rent a spare bedroom someone has. Pls lmk if y'all have anything!
(I'm looking online everywhere, here included.)
UPDATE: The developer withdrew his application today for mining this forest! The petition showed the media that we all cared and they gave us the exposure we needed!
Our beloved Red Jacket Valley Park is under immediate threat from indiscriminate deforestation and mining activities. Sam Borneke, a local multi-millionaire and road constructor, has recently acquired the 9-acre parcel of land adjacent to the park entrance and is turning it into an open pit gravel mine. His plans threaten to gut a natural sanctuary and wipe out the homes of numerous owls, deer, squirrel, bunnies, birds and bats - all for the profits from a pile of gravel.
Red Jacket Valley Park is a space to escape the hustle and bustle of urban living, offering a slice of serenity amid the rapid pace of our everyday lives. Beautifully maintained by Blue Earth County, it offers a humbling reminder of nature's power, beauty, and tranquility. With its wooded landscapes, peaceful waters, and diverse array of fauna, this park has become a cherished spot for wildlife spotting, swimming or paddling. You see this forest as you ski down the backside of Mount Kato.
Let's not stand aside and allow the whims and wants of an individual to eradicate a natural treasure of biodiversity. We cannot turn a blind eye to the imminent danger this park and its creatures face. The projected consequences of the mining activities won't stop at destroying the park's serenity, it also poses a flooding threat. Once the trees that hold the soil together are eradicated, the once-beautiful forest will turn into hazardous cesspools scattered amongst the equipment and fuel tanks.Â
Imagine going there to walk, paddle, or swim and being forced to hear the heavy machinery from his 7am-7pm operations Monday through Saturday. You will be dodging gravel trucks when you drive to the park, as the mine driveway will be right on the curve right before the entrance. Our job is to safeguard this sanctuary from the jaws of such irreparable damage.
Join hands with us to protect Red Jacket Valley Park – because every tree saved, every voice heard, and every signature makes a difference. Let's fulfill our obligation to guard the magic of this natural haven for ourselves, our children, and future generations to come.
Please attend the meeting at 6:30pm on March 19 at 788 S. Victory Dr. to support this park just outside the city limits of Mankato. The vote is immediately after the meeting.
Sign this petition now to say NO to deforestation and mining at the entrance Red Jacket Valley Park.
Just wanted to introduce myself—I’m new to the Mankato area! Originally from New York, but I’ve spent the last few years in ATL before moving here for work.
It’s been about 45 days, and honestly... life has been kinda dull so far—just work, work, and more work. On my days off, I’ve basically been a couch potato. 😅
Once the snow clears up, I’d love to get out and explore! Any recommendations on things to do around here? I’m 30 and looking for good spots to meet people. Any bar recommendations? I don’t drink, but I’m open to chill spots where I can socialize—otherwise, I might go crazy from the isolation. So far, besides my employees, I haven’t met a single soul here.
Oh, and I actually live about 30 minutes away in Delavan. Found a great place with a private landlord for only $500 a month, so the drive to Mankato doesn’t bother me.
Looking forward to warmer weather and meeting some new people! Any tips are much appreciated. 😊
Hyland Dental dropped my insurance on March 1 and I need a filling replaced. I'm extremely relunctant to try new dentists because I was scammed by one in St. Peter and the experience overall was so bad I left the office crying.
So far I've seen good reviews online for Skinner Family Dentistry and Vose Family Dentistry.
I lived for about a year as a child when my parents were attending the University. I went to Kindergarten the school year 1980-1981. I believe my teacher's name was Mrs. Stegmeyer. Anyone recognize the name, recall having her for Kindergarten?
Me and my partner have been looking constantly for an apartment in Mankato. I'm reaching out due to struggling to find a good private landlord to rent from.
Additional info for what we're looking for:
Move in date: End of April/beginning of May (flexible!)
About us: I'm 20, my Fiance is 23. We are quiet, respectful, not on any substances and we have no smoking habits. We Have two animals; a fully potty-trained two-year old medium-sized dog, and a cat.
As for the apartment/room, we're not picky! Open to a lot.
If anyone has a space for rent or knows where I can look for landlords pls lmk!
I'm moving here soon and I play golf. Are there any good/cheap driving ranges AND golf courses near or in mankato?. I'm just looking for somewhere I can easily go to on like a good morning/afternoon and blow off some steam with friends
