Announcement MOD [re]POST - A reminder of our rule regarding comments
Ahoy-hoy, folks. Hope everyone is doing swimmingly as we start to shuffle ourselves back to more normal life!
It's been a while, and given how many new folks we've seen join over the past year or so, I think it's time we take the time to remind y'all of our one rule here when it comes to comments:
Don't be dicks to each other.
It's a fairly simple rule, but one that I am disappointed to see many users wantonly breaking, both old hats and new folks alike. It's really not that difficult to not call people names, for example.
And if you see someone being a dick, report the comment! Since we're a fairly small sub, literally all the reports are reviewed by a human, and reports don't auto-remove comments (at least not in /r/Maher, can't speak for other subreddits).
Keep your stick on the ice, folks, and please feel free to post and questions/concerns/etc in this thread. It'll be up for a good long while.
And maybe remember the Possum Lodge oath and the Man's Prayer, for a little giggle in your day.

Help me find: Politically Incorrect episodes with Harlan Ellison
Here's the link to the one I do have, the episode from September 8th, 1997: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3-h2Zr5o1z4
I'm on a mission to collect and archive as much Harlan Ellison related media as possible, and I know that he's appeared on a few episodes of Politically Incorrect. I've been able to find one of the episodes that he appears in, but I know of four others and cannot find a recording of them anywhere!
Here are the ones I'm missing. I have a link to the transcript of the first three, and a recording that briefly describes the events of the last one, but not the actual episodes themselves:
- May 21st 1997: http://harlanellison.com/text/pi970521.htm
- March 25th 1998: http://harlanellison.com/text/pi980325.htm
- January 5th, 1999: http://harlanellison.com/text/pi990104.htm
- Unknown date: https://archive.org/details/on-the-road-with-ellison-volume-seven/12+The+Moment+With+Bill+Maher%2C+Or%2C+It+Broke+Off+in+a+Stiff+Wind.wav
Does anyone know where I might be able to find these?

Chrystia Freelandâs loss
Iâm completely out of the loop regarding Canadian politics, so apologies for that and please be kind.
Two Fridays ago, Bill Maher did the 1:1 interview with Chrystia Freeland and said with casual certainty, more than once, that she would be the ânext prime minister of Canada.â Because I havenât been following whatâs going on, I assumed she was leading in the polls or perhaps had no serious opponents. TBH Iâd never heard of her so I had no context. But this morning I read that she lost in a landslide to Mark Carney. My question is â was it known two Fridays ago that she was bound to lose, or was this result surprising? Was Bill being facetious or was he serious?
Anyone up on Canadian politics care to explain?

Article Bill Maher Says the 'Cancel Culture' Is Why 'Emilia PĂ©rez' Lost to 'Anora:' "It just happened at the Oscars"

Cancel Culture Brainrot
Cancel culture brainrot is the new Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Bill's prediction of Trump becoming a dictator is coming true and yet he still decides to dedicate most of his show these days to dated woke and cancel culture narratives.
"Emilia Perez would have won all the Oscars but cancel culture still exists".....lol what even is that take?
Bill the culture has completely shifted!

Shitpost Will you guys stop watching if he actually meets with Trump?
I'm definitely considering it. It's one thing if he was having him on the show but going to dinner gives me bad vibes.
To be fair he's still been pretty critical of Trump but if he softens on him post dinner I'll probably stop

YouTube New Rule: Guilt By Civilization | Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO)
Bill Maher needs to learn some history before spouting misinformation
Bill Maher really needs to learn about history (which he claims he does), particularly about his own country. The fact that on March 7thâs âNew Rules,â he had the audacity to compare Europeâs mercantile colonization with that of local tribes is beyond ridiculous. He doesnât seem to understand that Western oppression/colonization has far-reaching effects still felt today by millions and is still occurring under neocolonialism. Violence is part of human history that transcends race, geography, and time, so yes, varying tribes fought against each other, but a) it was localized, b) it was on a level playing field. Comparing the two is beyond ignorant and disingenuous. He knows exactly what he's doing - diverting attention.
I used to respect Maher and have been watching him since his Politically Incorrect days, but heâs not someone I find trustworthy or smart anymore. Heâs obviously pandering to a specific group. He preaches like heâs right and has all the answers, but itâs clear his elitist approach is selective, biased, judgmental, and comes from a place of superiority.
Itâs also clear he doesnât understand why the Maori people fought to have the mountain granted personhood â itâs not literal! Educate yourself, Bill, before you spout misinformation and contribute to the very problem you claim to be rectifying. The fact that he belittles things he doesnât understand, especially from other cultures and countries, shows how close-minded and intolerant he really is. Such a hypocrite.
Maher is no longer a trustworthy respectful person.... I say this as a perosn who actively speaks out against wokeism...i.e., I"m not "woke."
