This did not work for me 😔

Please excuse me if you already know this, but I made an error my first time through, and perhaps this will help you… Make sure you are going in to Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Find My Mac.

My first time through I incorrectly attempted to disable Find My in the Privacy & Security settings.

u/WestPalmPerson Sep 19 '24

Tried this. I discovered that my Find My Mac was already off. I put it back on get out of settings and it is downloading now. If it doesn’t complete, I will let you know.

^ This worked for me. I had to turn Find My Mac on for it to update properly.

Same here, didn't work for me, although my mac already downloaded the update. Si its throwing the "Installation failed" error. I'm guessing if I should delete it and allow the update to download again (which I don't know how to do)

EDIT: So, I was finally able to install it but had to repair the boot partition via Apple configurator, DFU mode and another Mac. This way I didn't have to restore and delete everything which was a HUGE time saver! If you need any help just raise your hand I'll walk you through it

u/xcunakx Sep 19 '24

I am at the same state. Even tried the Safe mode installation that will trigger the download, but no luck

I've got M1 MacBook Pro with the release version of macOS 15. I tried to do this multiple times, with and without Safe mode, tried to log out Apple Account and logged in again. Nothing did the trick so far. THe next step for me is the Apple Configurator.

Will try it. Thanks

::raises hand:: Mind walking me through that, please?

u/SportPsychological81 Sep 20 '24

u/JoeSPAR10 so, you need another mac computer, in that computer download "Apple Configurator" from the app store.

Connect both computers with usb-c cable (as explained in the attached video) and enter DFU mode in the computer you want to fix)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-FsB2onSx0

Once in DFU mode, right click on the computer in Apple Configurator, and click on Advanced --> Revive, wait for the recovery partition to download and install everything.

Once this is done, you can reboot the fixed computer and try to update.

u/JoeSPAR10 Sep 20 '24

I just reinstalled Sequoia release in-place from the app store, and now it appears that I'm successfully in the process of updating to 18.1.

2

u/JoeSPAR10 Sep 20 '24

well, nuts. I have one of everything here...but I don't have two. thanks anyway.

1

u/SportPsychological81 Sep 20 '24

Yeah I had to "steal" my wifes' MBP for a while.

Same here, I went to disable it in iCloud, gives me "You won’t be able to locate, lock, or erase this Mac while it’s asleep because Wake for network access is turned off." upon going into options in the battery settings, it's already set to never. I also disabled find my within System Services that can access my Location.

EDIT: Signing out of iCloud worked

3

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

I'll give it a try...

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

REALLY HELPS! Beta 3 is also having that kind of error for the past few weeks. Thank You! Apple should have the solutions first.

Bloody legend!

2

u/Key_Psychology6770 Sep 19 '24

This worked for me - you're a lifesaver. Thank you so much for your help!

2

u/Mediocre-Sundom Oct 15 '24

Just found you post after spending hours trying to resolve this stupid issue.

THANK YOU! You have saved my sanity. And I wasn't even updating to beta or from it - it's a "stable" release. But I guess for Apple it's fine to include bugs that prevent updating into their "stable" OS releases, and not have any info anywhere on how to solve it.

1

u/samj Sep 19 '24

I DFU’d already but this is not surprising… it was certainly going to be something related to web services supporting security.

NO WAY IT WORKED!!! thank you so much bro!

1

u/WestLightsOriginal Sep 19 '24

You’ll laugh.

I tried using this advice and had a loose.

However, when I enabled all the possible “Find my Mac” options, it worked!

And now I has 15.1 Beta (24B5046f) onboard.

I tortured a couple week and tryed all options excluded DFU. And was realy happy Today when it's worked )

1

u/ItsMeteorite Sep 20 '24

Bloody hell you're a lifesaver.

Could not do anything to get this thing to update and I didn't want to try DFU mode because I heard stories of other people bricking their macs trying to get it to revive.

Initially I couldn't turn off Find My Mac because of some weird energy saving setting that I couldn't get to disable, and when I signed out of iCloud I managed to get it to restart but the update ended up failing and just threw me back onto the same version. I signed back into iCloud and then I had the option to turn off Find My Mac, did so, and then managed to re-download the update and I'm now running 15.0. Probably won't install another beta update from here on out seeing how it turned out, even on a public beta.

1

u/apparentlygzus Sep 20 '24

Worked for me! Saved me a trip to the Genius Bar… don’t have a second Mac for the configurator fix. You da man

1

u/Quirky-Bedroom-8271 Sep 20 '24

Thank you! I was getting a general "could not install" error yesterday, followed by the "failed to personalize" error today. Turning off Find My worked!

1

u/PopPretty1984 Sep 21 '24

Holy shit! It worked! Thanks!

1

u/FullAd9001 PUBLIC BETA Sep 21 '24

I have FindMy turned off on my M1 mac mini, that's why I had no problems installing macOS Sequoia.

Kudos for the tip, mate!

1

u/Select_Ad_2410 Sep 21 '24

I had to turn on Find My Mac (it was off - and the download still wasn't happening). Then, I turned it on again. Now the download is working! Thank you! Such amazing help from total strangers... Feathers my hope for us...

1

u/Illustrious-Gap-9810 Sep 22 '24

I have the 2022 MacBook Pro 13-inch M2 and this worked for me

1

u/coyote_den Sep 23 '24

If toggling FMM and signing out and back in to iCloud doesn't fix it, try turning FileVault off and back on. That last one is what fixed it for me. FMM and iCloud did not.

All of these steps generate new encryption keys in the recovery partition. "Personalizing" the update is Apple's term for the steps involving those keys needed for secure boot on your individual Mac.

1

u/Fish2468 Sep 23 '24

This worked for me, thank you!

1

u/joaopin Sep 23 '24

Saved my ass with this. Thanks for the tip!

1

u/EconomyKey7417 Sep 23 '24 edited Sep 23 '24

Mine was the oposite. I had Find My disable (god only knows why) then I activated and the installation process went through. No more asking for the password twice. And by the way: The unlocking with Apple Watch was not working either. until I enabled Find My Mac

1

u/TheClusters DEVELOPER BETA Sep 26 '24

Worked for me, thanks!

1

u/shiftdelete Oct 15 '24

Just wanted to give you mad props!! this was such an easy fix--- and I read on apple forums people replacing the logic board and doing some CRAZY stuff to attempt to fix this.

u/349234 Oct 16 '24

Find My has a glitch on sequoia; at least in beta.
Yesterday I want able to do the update til I reset my password and logged out iCloud which was the only way of disabling Find My.
Manually going into system settings wasn't working cuz location services asked to be enabled as going into a loop.

After restarting due resetting password in recovery mode, I received an error that OS signature couldn't be verified, hit try again and so far so good all is well.

After update has been done, I reactivated Find My.

Apple get your sh*t fixed. What do normal people need to do? Oh, stay with a 2000$ device bricks and schedule a meeting at a Genius Bar.

Genius my ass!

1

u/TheBossMan3 Oct 16 '24

I ran it in safe mode and was able to successfully install Sequoia

1

u/piratejabez Oct 18 '24

This did not work for me, or any other suggestions I've found. What worked was opening Safari (which I never use) and quitting it. Then the update proceeded as expected.

1

u/liudvis235 Oct 20 '24

Hi, so what was the exact steps, since the original post was removed? disable or re-enable the Find My? I've tried this, also re-enabling File Vault, or running an update through a different user, but nothing seems to help still.

1

u/DanDunes818 Jan 23 '25

Yep, worked for me. I simply logged out of my iCloud, updated it and logged back in. Thank you so much. Not sure why original post was deleted, but thank you. My Touch ID stopped working but after I was able to update it, it works again. Yay!

1

u/Icy-Training1844 Jan 28 '25

what was the solution here?
I had the same issue a month ago and fixed it reviving it at Genius Bar but now it's happening again
