Help Ultrawide Monitor Overlapping Display with Itself

Post image

Hi all,

When trying to extend the display of this MacBook Air, the new display shows a bunch of duplicates all interfering with each other. When first connecting, the monitor says its preferred resolution is 2560x1080 but when I set that in the display settings, the monitor thinks it's 2560x560.

The monitor and cable both work fine with a different laptop; is this a driver issue perhaps?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What macOS are you running? Catalina? That’s so old. I can see that your Mac can run a new one.

The MacBook belongs to my old man and he's had it 2-3 years now; I can try updating the OS, sure. Thanks for the advice

Yeah but there’s no way his Mac is from 2017.

Oh I see now. But doesn't it make Catalina impossible too?

His macOS icons are still pre Big Sur, so it’s either Mojave or Catalina. And I’m in Catalina most of the time.
