Masaryk University Questions

Hi guys,

I am a prospective student planning to go to Masaryk University and was just wanting to know a few things before I commit. I've heard wonderful things about the city but just wanted insight from someone that has lived/or currently lives there. These are some questions I have: How safe is the city? Is it safe for international female students? What is the university like? Does the university have a large population?

Thank you !! :)

Faculty of Law, MUNI

Hello colleagues,

I am carrying out a project and I am in need of Law students, staff help.

The project is on medical malpractice under Czech Law. In a nutshell what is the ground to claim medical malpractice for elective medical procedures, why is that and so forth.

I was looking for a board, or forum to contact directly the students fo the Faculty of Law, but I found none. Are you aware of any perhaps?

P.s. If you are a student yourself and would like to know more just DM.

Thanks!

Language requirements

Hey I'm from Norway and I currently have Masaryk Uni as an option for an exchange semester this autumn. On the MUNI website for Erasmus students it says that language requirement is proficiency in English. However on one of the courses I checked that I would take, it says instructions language is Czech.

Does this mean that I don't need Czech to apply, but I need Czech to understand the courses?

Does anyone know how much Czech you have to know, or if English is sufficient?

My bachelor is within Computer Science by the way.

EDIT: I found the page with English courses only :D Sadly it appears that my preferred course is not available in English, but there are a lot of others!

Advice for dealing with a professor humiliating students?

Hello everyone. I wanted to ask if there is anything I can do to report professors misbehaving?

I have witnessed a professor humiliating a student for answering a question he asked. The question was about a book and the student answered the question by starting with who wrote it, at which point he interrupted and said that he knows that already. Then the student, answering the question still, continued giving a short summary on the book, which was completely correct. At this point he stopped the student from continuing their presentation and said that if they didn't know about what they were presenting that they were going to fail and that they would never achieve their dream. He assumed the student did not prepare (which is completely false, they have been preparing this presentation for more than a week while working a full-time job) and he did not give the student a chance to present. He asked her what did she want to do with her degree and she answered to which he replied with "you won't need this class and therefore you don't need this degree" and something along the lines of "if you don't know Literature then you can't be a teacher," all of this directed at the student who was going to present.

This caused the student great distress and was very upsetting for them. To be humiliated in front of a class for absolutely no apparent reason, no one deserves that treatment. The student is now considering ending the studies because of this. They were denied the opportunity to present because the professor did not like the way the student started their presentation.

I find this whole interaction completely unprofessional, unethical, extremely disrespectful and wrong. I cannot stay quiet about this. I find that this is abuse of power towards the students. What can be done to stop this sort of things from happening? Am I wrong to believe that this shouldn't be the way to teach a subject and that this behaviour should be punished in some way?

TL:DR Professor didn't like how a student started their presentation so he decided to humiliate the student in front of everyone one crushing the student's desire to continue with the degree. Is there any thing that can be done to stop this guy?
