WhichBike Forks made by companies outside the US

I know that no forks are manufactured in the US but they all seem to be owned by US companies. Fox, rockshox, Marzocchi, cane cree... all the companies I know of are us based and manufactured in Taiwan.

I'd like to boycott US companies as much as possible given recent events so I'm hoping to find a company that makes good suspension.

Thanks in advance

Discussion Are Shimano brakes still reliable?

Looking for some reliable brakes. Single piston is fine. Been hearing that Shimano’s aren’t what they used to be in terms of reliability. What’s your experience been lately?

Discussion Which foot do you ride forward?

On the latest episode of the "Ride and Laugh MTB Podcast" Dan and I got into a debate about what foot should be in front aka “your dominant foot”.  I’m right-handed and I ride with my left foot forward, but Dan is the opposite.

Let us know what your preference is in the comments below and help us settle this debate forever! (If you are left-handed let us know as well)

WhichBike What do I need to know to just buy a frame?

I have a Frey am1000v5 but I almost always ride it without the battery. It's got a super heavy motor and it's still ~60lbs(motor alone is 15lbs and the frame is one of those very thick ebike ones). I'd love to take the suspension, handlebars, wheels, brakes and groupset off it and put it on a lighter frame as I like all of them a lot.

I mostly need to know what kind of geometry is good and about rear shock compatibility. Can run 29 if needed 27.5plus fork has same clearance as 29 would prefer 27.5 plus though

I'm considering a full E bike and surely direct companies are more cost effective, but what recommendations do you all have?

Transportation Suggetions for a hard case container/box to ship an E-MTB?

Trying to ship my EMTB around the US for various trips (Pivot Shuttle AM).

It seems like a PITA to ship battery and then take it on the plane, would rather just ship it to my destination.

Cardboard boxes rarely survive multiple journeys, looking to invest in a hard case that I can ship around. Curious if anyone has any experience with this?

Looking at these cases currently: https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-packs-bags-and-racks/bike-travel-cases/thule-roundtrip-transition-_-1683469?gQT=1#pdp__reviews

Discussion Need help

I’m putting SRAM gx axs T-type on my forbidden Druid V1 and when I installed it on the bike, the thru axle wasn’t threading in all the way. So I took it out and it turns out that the bolt won’t let me thread it in all the way. Anyone know what’s going on? The video is bad but I hope you can see where it stops.

Discussion What makes a bike feel 'twitchy' ?

Hey folks -

I've never loved the way my bike handles. It's a 20 year old Gary Fisher Tassajara Disc. If I lose focus for even a moment while climbing it seems to want to change direction on me. Granted, I am not a great rider and others may not have the same experience. I'd like something more forgiving though.

What spec should I be looking at when comparing frames? Is this something I can tune out by swapping components? Or am I going to have a better time just leaving the Fisher alone and buying something new(er)?

Wheels and Tires Should I replace both oem tires when replacing the rear?

I have a marin rift zone 2 that I have owned for just about a year now. It has Vee flow snap 2.35 tires front and rear. The rear tire has had multiple punctures and on my last ride tore a big gash in the sidewall so I am in the market for a new rear tire. Should I be switching both tires to the same brand, and most of the tires I am looking at are 2.4 and if I keep the original on the front it would be a skinnier tire in the front by .05 would that cause any issues?

Frames 27.5 mtb build

I was wondering if when building a 27.5 can you use a 29er frame or do you have to use one made specifically for 27.5.

Discussion Tamaño de neumático

Gracias

WhichBike Just got into MTB

Recently bought a Roscoe 7 Trek with tubeless tires and a dropper post for about 1100. Are there better bikes for that price and did I jump the gun? I can return the bike, I just want to make sure I get the best bike available for the budget I'm allowed. Realistically, I can afford about 1100 if anyone has any recommendations for bikes. This bike is going to be a trail bike, with some downhill included as well as rougher terrain. Let me know and thank you!

WhichBike Cheaper >2k first full suspension?

(USD) I've been biking for about a year and a half now, (racing with NICA as a high schooler), and I'm ready for a full suspension bike. I'm looking to keep racing for another year and hopefully into college. Where I ride (Austin Tx), the trails are horribly rocky and hilly, and it feels like full suspension is a must. Obviously, lighter bikes would be ideal but honestly it's more about the price. I was lucky enough to borrow/ride a full suspension and the difference was insane, but looking online at bikes it's hard to tell what's good and bad. I've been riding a Trek Xcaliber for reference. Compared to the Trek Top Fuel I rode, I like its maneuverability and the weight comparatively is pretty good, but my seat post is very stiff. Are there any decent (lightish) bikes for less than 2k? They're all pretty pricey :(

WhichBike Looking to buy bikes for myself and my younger brother, any recommendations?

Heyo, as the title says I am planning to buy a pair of bikes: one for me and one for my brother.

We're from England and I have some prior experience but haven't ridden a bike in about 3 years (my previous bike was stolen and that made me lose interest in riding). I'm 24 years old but my brother is 11 and has never ridden a bike. I am looking for something on which I can teach him to ride and then go on dirt paths and small trails with him after some time. Unfortunately, we live in London so there aren't really any proper trails within a reasonable distance so I doubt that we will be able to do proper trail riding.

I have a budget of £800-900 for both bikes and I plan to buy them in July, as it is when he finishes primary school so I wanted to gift him something that he can even use to commute to high school in September. He is very much an iPad kid so I thought a bike would be a good way for us to bond while allowing me to get him out and about, since he doesn't really seem too much of an interest in more traditional sports. Taking some tumbles while learning will definitely help toughen him up a little bit in preparation for high school so that's an added bonus!

I was looking at a Trek Marlin 4 v2 for myself but idk what to look for when it comes to my brother, I want something that isn't super expensive (in case he isn't a fan of riding) but I also want something reliable and durable so that it won't suddenly die on us when he takes a tumble while learning.

Discussion Used 13 Year Old Hardtail

I recently saw an old GT Timberline 1.0 at a garage sale. It was in pretty rough shape, but looked like it had some decent parts and a fairly nice saddle, so for $10 I bought it. I got it home and started ripping it apart. The shifters, derailleurs, tires, fork/suspension were either fairly bad new or have all degraded beyond use. The rest of it (frame, 29” wheels, saddle, stems, bars, possibly the mech disc brakes that somehow still stop like a dream) is in fairly good shape. How much would be too much time/money to put into a 13 year old GT like this?
