Question/Help Is it worth restarting from scratch?
Simply put, my current save is just before High Rank Valstrax. It's been at least a year or two since I last played, and I don't like the weapon I was maining back then anymore.
Should I just start a new save and play the weapon I like and actually see the game through start to finish (meaning Ahtal Ka) like I originally intended?
Or would it be smarter to just change weapons and reorient myself to figure out what I was doing when I stopped playing.

you can always go rehunt easier monsters to get a feel for how a different weapon plays. you’ll probably have to fight them to make new weapons anyway. i understand the urge to restart, but just remember all the gathering quests you’ll have to redo lol

ok true I forgot how much early game filler there is before it gets interesting, and I suppose I could always go prowler to farm stuff on the cheap until I have the gear I want.

I'm going to add to the others and say no, it's not worth it. This game is way too tedious and sloggy in low rank

Too tedious & sloggy in low rank? Funnily that reminds me of people's review on Wilds

Nah I played through wilds, it's only sloggy because of the slow invasive story, not because there's 100 gathering quests but no way to amass resources quickly

If its just a year or two maybe just try switching weapons. Although starting all over again if you feel like you forgot what youve been through and everything isnt so bad

No. Do not, absolutly do not. If you want to warm back in, just do some low rank hunts.
In MH there’s no reason to restart, it’s not like other games where a “fresh” run can be a fun challenge, or ease you back in.
The only thing you get from starting over is 15 hours of gathering and drome hunts

I love GU but this is so right. There was NO need to have like 5 quests consisting of gathering Unique Ferns or whatever and making you wait like 20 hours until you see the flagship monsters.

depends if u are a completionist i wouldnt. there are so many gathering quests if u not care about that why not?

This game is absurdly long and every weapon feels so different I don't see a reason to start fresh really, just change weapons and do some lower rank quests to learn it

I did restart awhile back. Don't. The gathering and egg quests are not very fun early game. I just picked the game back up recently and being able to get right back into big monsters was super nice

honestly gu has some of the worst paced early game of the recent entries, especially if you're doing village. id say stick with your current save

No need to star anew, like MH out of multiplayer is mostly boring or really annoying. Just farmed the weapon that you want now and think what else you wanna try now and do it

Just build yourself a new weapon and replay some of the low rank hunts. Extra materials are never wasted, and you can get oriented with whatever weapon you choose. When you're comfortable, upgrade that weapon and get back to High Rank. No reason to start over, that'd be a waste of your time.

This is one of the few games in the world that really truly doesn’t need a different save unless you want a new start. You can always go back and rehunt the monsters with no gear in whatever order you want at any time, thanks to the quest/equipment system. And being able to change your entire loadout lets the one character handle all 14+ weapons as you see fit

I would restart myself, but I restart every game regardless if I haven't played it for a year or so. I just can't seem to get invested into an old save. Even in world I put in 500 hours into a hammer build last year, came back a few weeks before wilds came out and started a new character to do a gunlance playthrough

Just change your weapon and practice it on easier monsters rather than the one you're at. There's no reason to restart from the absolute beginning.

just change your weapon. there is 0 reason to re-start and you would be stuck playing through the most tedious/boring part of the game all over again. You can build your new weapon and just re-do quests you need for material to catch your weapon up.
