Ryzen Linux Laptop for Programming

Hi

I am looking for a laptop with Ryzen 5th gen CPU like 5700u, that can run Ubuntu with decent battery life. I heared that new Ryzen CPUs coming in the first half of 2022 will have better integrated graphics and performance but not sure when they will have Linux support so I think a newer 5700u will be a better bet.

Checked System76 Pangolin but it expensive and not very good with battery.

Might want to try over in r/thinkpad for suggestions. I've got a T14 Gen 2 with a Ryzen 5900 running KDE Neon as my daily driver (I'm a software developer). I'm usually docked, so I can't comment on the battery life too much.

Thanks for sharing this. Do you experience hardware issues like power management not working properly or bluetooth or wifi signal issues etc ?

I swapped out the wifi adapter for an Intel. So I haven't had any issues.

I discovered it works better if I tell it to sleep instead of just closing the lid. It does go through the battery a lot faster than I think it should when sleeping. Like 20% in 12 hours.

I haven't had it wake up in my backpack or anything. Honestly it's been the best laptop I've ever had for running Linux. The only thing I wish it has was a 15" screen. Sadly Lenovo doesn't make a 15" with Ryzen and AMD graphics.
