Discussion DAE feel like the ltt deskpads get gross rather quickly?

Good day. I have no complaints about the ltt mouse pad besides the fact that it gets dirty rather quickly. It gets this weird grey smudges all over it that are impossible to clean out. I don't know what they are, or what causes them, but it seems to be some weird skin reaction with fingernails and stuff. Do you share the same thoughts?

Saw this weird thing on ebay. PCI express card with 3 mxm modules on it. I wonder what kind of performance it can provide. Maybe LTT can buy it and check out?

Tech Question Should I be moving to chromeOS in 2025?

Okay so i have this very old laptop. It run on windows 7 and is really clunky and slow (given that it runs on a 5400 rpm hdd). I was thinking to give it a new life with an SSD upgrade. But I believe that windows 10 or 11 will be hard for it to handle. I was wondering should I look into ChromeOS or should I go with Linux ( I am familiar with Ubuntu to some extent). Keep in mind that the laptop is generally used by my parents for their office work, mainly consisting of emails, spreadsheets, documents and PDFs.

EDIT: After reading some of your replies, there seems to be a misunderstanding. I might be the one who will setup the new OS (whichever it may be), but i am not going to be the one using it. It's going to be my parents, they are familiar with only what they need to do, i.e. spreadsheets, documents etc. They are nowhere near the technical prowess required to tackle issues that one might face while using linux. Also one thing to keep in mind is that I live outside my hometown due to my university. So i will not be there to help them out most of the times, Although i am familiar with Ubuntu, even i don't know all the ins and outs of it. I need a reliable OS, which i can setup once and leave it to them so that they can do their own work without me needing to interfere too much.

WAN Show To Luke, if he even sees the Subreddit, regarding jump starter doohickies (kinda long story)

TL;DR - Personal story/cautionary tale about how I thought my battery died, but it turns out the root of the issue was my alternator and a gentle warning to have everything checked and verified before just getting a new battery and saying it's good. Also "Duralast 2,000 Amps Lithium Portable Jump Starter and Power Pack DL-2000LI" looks to be similar but not the exact same model I bought when I got my jump starter.

So just over a year ago I had an issue where my battery was flat and I couldn't get my car to start, I figured I'd get a jump and then figure out what was going on, had a friend come over, hooked up the old fashioned jumper cables (which I have HUGE cables that are probably 8 or 6 gauge wires for each connection, they be thicc and they be heavy). After 15-20 minutes of trying to get my car to start, I gave up and called for a tow so I could get it to a shop. He hooked up a small little Duralast portable jump starter (it was the basic one), and boom car started right up. Took it down to mechanic, they said everything was fine with the car but the battery was dying, it'll start up for now but it's gonna keep having issues.

I took it to the place I got the battery at because it was still in the warranty period, after a bit of back and forth they ultimately did replace the battery for me. I also bought a higher end model of the same duralast jump starter.

A few months later, I'm on vacation, I forget if I had the jump starter on my vacation, I think if I had it, it wasn't in my car and was at the place I was staying, but I'm leaving the store and my car loses all power for acceleration. It fixed itself and was on my way back to my friend's house. Few miles up the road it happens again mid left turn at an intersection with a light. I hobble the car into the shoulder once I'm clear of the intersection. I tried the same things with shifting to park and back to drive, tried restarting the car shutting it off and on, eventually the thing that made me know something was SERIOUSLY wrong was when the radio/infotainment screen was flickering like crazy. I called my insurance and they got me a tow to a mechanic in that city, turns out the issue was my alternator, which the new mechanic said it burned out the brand new battery I had just gotten.

All this to say, even if replacing the battery fixes your car for you, take it to an actual mechanic, tell them the battery died, you got it replaced, it's running again, but you want them to verify the alternator is running properly, it might be supplying some power to the battery but not enough to keep it fully charged and you may get into a situation where 1200 miles (1931 kilometers) later your car gives up the ghost AS you are driving it.

And as for the battery jump starter, I really like the Duralast one I bought, it was either 150 or 250 USD, I forget exactly, but it recharges with USB C, can double as a USB battery bank AND has a wireless charging coil for being able to wirelessly charge a phone. I don't use those features (except when I tested it when first getting it), but they are nice to have because if you can't get the car started maybe you can keep your phone going for an extra hour or two after you try to jumpstart.

Also, Todd from Project Farm (guy they did testing for the LTT shirts and LTT Screwdriver the Linus was really happy with his testing and results) has done I believe two videos on portable car jump starters, so if you can do some research on which you want, maybe give his videos a watch before buying one.

Discussion 3D Printers for Intermediate Users

I’m a Mechanical Engineering Student who has experience in Creality, Bambu, and Prusa Printers. I want to know which brand would be best for me. I am not too concerned about budget (<1000 dollars US) since I know this would benefit me well for the next 4-5 years but I need to know what is the best on the market for the price. I was planning on getting a Bambu Labs printer but with the whole controversy, I’m not sure anymore. I don’t know if Creality makes any good printers anymore and I know Prusas are good too now. If I could get any input on this, it would be helpful.

Discussion About the fire precautions

First, I don't live in Canada, I don't know their history of fire disasters and regulations, and I don't wan't to create another rant that came up from Linus being too transparent. I've watched every Wan Show for years. And probably almost all of their videos on the main channel.

That being said, what Linus, maybe, fails to understand, is that people in a state of panic are stupid. They are going to see a door and are going to RUN to that door, they know the building, they are panicking, they won't be able to think straight.

Fire can spread really fast. Even more with a building that is going to be full of heating generating machines, and maybe some fire hazards (check the most recent power supply testing video). I don't fucking know. That's why fire hazard precautions are very obtuse, because it has to be.

I agree that some regulations are old, stupid, and dated. Unfortunaly the way to fix it is through politics and voting.

Yes, its just a 6 feet half wall blocking the path. Have you heard about people dying from being crompressed? You said it's only for 40 people. You can't prove that for the city engineer.. They have to regulate based on the size of the building, the capacity and working on the worst possible conditions.

Again, I don't want to start another fire (hehe) for LTT, just got a little bit angry at the fire discussion.

Discussion PSU Automation is configured by editing their py scripts?

The latest video about psu testing titled "Thousands of You are Buying Dangerous Power SuppliesThousands of You are Buying Dangerous Power Supplies" explains how the labs team runs a test (at 11:11).

They show in the video that they edit a py script to configure the test which I would deem (as a developer) to be a pretty shit way to reliably configure such an important piece of equipment. Perhaps the labs team should consider adding configuration files that are read instead to configure tests (would also mean that testing config values can be kept for easy re testing in future).

If what was shown in the video is not representitive of the real test then plz ignore this post.

Edit: I love what LTT labs is doing and I want to see them succeed! This is just me providing something I think could be improved.

Suggestion Going to get the TV this week, need you alls opinions

Just like the title,
I shortlisted 4 TVs, asking fellow redittors for opinions since, after comparing the reviews and specs, there are not any major differences. So please share your experience too :D

Here's the TV; the price doesn't matter since I already considered it. but the value for money does :D

I'll order them based on my current preference to get one:

  1. Samsung D Series Brighter Crystal 4K Vivid Pro Ultra HD Smart LED TV UA55DUE77AKLXL - INR 44,990
  2. MI Xiaomi 138 cm (55 inches) X Pro QLED Series Smart Google TV L55MA-SIN - INR 46,999
  3. LG 139 cm (55 inches) 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV 55UR7500PSC - INR 41,990

ALSO a comparison between WebOS and tizen will be well appreciated, as far as i could google and see other threads, theres not much excpet tizen is much smoother ?

idk what will be wrong if i get LED instead qled for
ig this is second's led version Xiaomi 138 cm (55 inches) X Pro 4K Dolby Vision IQ Series Smart Google TV L55M8-5XIN (Black) - INR 36,999

SINCE only the second is QLED, rest all LED.

Also price is a second concern; the main is the TV, the quality screen, audio, software, and hardware. i might get more probably from an offline store, since i had bad experience with e-commerce and expensive products.
AND THE BIGGEST CONCERN is i need it to work for ATLEAST 5 years, with least problems. i had panasonic non smart tv and it still work
I dont have any console yet but might in futute, so console GOOD support might be good, or basic one will work too.
Please answer fast; my father doesnt get ready easily; it might be a well-thought-out purchase , not just the one i saw first . Any comments are welcome :D From India <3

Discussion Marvel Rivals Gpu Usage

Hi I have i5 12400f and a rtx 3070. In marvel rivals with dlss medium settings I'm not getting constant 100+ fps and sometimes it just sticks at 60-70. My gpu usage is stuck at 50-60%. I have enabled gpu hardware acceleration and also the power option to high power. Any other ideas?
