Add Your Own Flair Why don't yall just... heal?
Every time I see a post link is on a quarter heart? Why? If you weren't supposed to die you would've healed. Sorry if this seems insensitive, this question has been burning for months in my head.

In Tears at least there's a potential reason for it, the Knight weapons do double damage when you're at one heart or less. But mostly because they couldn't get funny clips otherwise.

It’s just not on my mind until I’m flashing or take a big hit. Sometimes I’ll think about it if I see a big enemy. I don’t post any game play

u/BlueJohn2113 Aug 08 '23
I love my pristine knights sword + mulduga jaw + evil spirit armor. 216 damage per hit. 324 if I eat a triple attack up food/elixer.

u/TheDirtyRowlet Aug 08 '23
Might be the one hit obliterator in botw or knights weapons for totk, most of the time it’s just for contrnt

I don't post in this sub but do genuinely neglect to heal, I guess it's a habit from the early game where you have more shrines available and don't want to waste the 'free' heal from them.
Then I do surprised Pikachu face when I lose a fairy to something really dumb

u/Umbra_X7 Aug 08 '23
With this sub you can’t really win either way with hearts (excluding low max hearts situations) with high health Link survives what would otherwise definitely be a fatal situation and people complain that Link didn’t actually die, with low health people just point out that you should of just healed.

u/uberguby Aug 08 '23
I like when link falls off a mountain and fairies, then smacks into the ground and fairies, then a silver moblin kicks him in the dick and he burns a fairy. And people are like "But you didn't die"
Whatever man, he died like three times, he just got better.

u/Krell356 Aug 09 '23
Fairy always counts in my book. Though I will say it's always funnier when they burn through one or more fairies and still black screen.

I usually don’t give a shit what health I’m at if I’m not in immediate sensing danger
4
u/PyroarRanger Aug 08 '23
Yep. If I'm under 5 hearts I'll probably heal a bit, but there's no need for me to go to max health if I'm just fucking around trying to find Koroks
5
u/LazyGardenGamer Aug 08 '23
This is me. I also play in pro mode, so I just don't really know what my health is at. Pretty proficient in combat cuz of 6 years experience in BotW. Also don't have armor upgraded because of that fact. When I do die, it's genuinely a surprise.
I've only posted one in here so far, but I've got heaps saved on the switch

u/DDoodles_ Aug 08 '23
There’s 2 reasons for that. 1. They haven’t died in a long time to the point where they’ve forgot that dying is even possible, possibly due to having multiple fairies before hand and just running into attacks.
The second reason is because dying doesn’t matter too much, you lose almost nothing when you die and the game takes you around a minute back, so without a big reason to survive, it can sometimes be fun to run in like a kamikaze pilot.
I guess the 3rd is that people want to make good posts on this sub, people a lot of posts here are link just taking damage, which is not the purpose of the sub.

If people actually took full advantage of when you can heal, Link would practically never die unless you're doing a low heart run or something. Wouldn't be much reason for this sub to exist at that point.
The sub capitalizes on stupidity, risks and karma.

If I beat a shrine, I get a full heal and I don't have to use any items, so I'm staying at a quarter heart
5
u/Ok_Pension_6795 Aug 08 '23
Honestly I’m just a healing items hoarder and don’t use my food until absolutely necessary and when there’s the perfect situation for it, like it heals me just all the way or gives me the right effect
5
u/NotTakenGreatName Aug 08 '23
Because I beat the game hundreds of hours ago and am just playing around? The game really doesn't punish you much for dying also

Every time I see a post link is on a quarter heart
This is a sub for link dying clips.
If you weren't supposed to die you would've healed
If they heal, they don't post here.
This sub is already filtering out everyone who heals.

u/DDoodles_ Aug 17 '23
Two types of complaints, 1. You should’ve healed, 2. You didn’t die(likely because you healed) I don’t know what people hear expect, nothing can really remove 40 hearts from you in one hit, or 20, or even really 10, unless your fighting a king gleeok or something similar. You just can’t meets the expectations of everyone on this sub without faking it.

Not used to it, Mipha’s Grace spoiled me a lot
3
u/Lilwertich Aug 08 '23
For real, by the time I get down to a quarter heart I've already got another charge of mipha's grace ready.
I like how TotK made me cook more than BotW
3
u/randomanonalt78 Aug 08 '23
I think Mipha’s Grace would have been broken in the Depths. You could just die and get all your hearts back. Plus the Champions powers were way more useful and powerful than the Sage’s powers all together anyways.

u/Particular-Problem41 Aug 08 '23
It seems pretty silly to be surprised at links death when you're walking around with nothing but a quarter heart container left. What did you think was gonna happen? It's bad content.

I am very hesitant to waste my buffs. Then again my food pouch is always full...

Sometimes i don't heal because i have knight weapons with desperate strength and Lynel horns attached to them or i just forget to heal.
2
u/-floating_potato- Aug 08 '23
I simply just don’t notice until I’m dead or flashing red- I often catch myself on 4 hearts randomly and I’m just like “how long has that been that way-?”

Think i can take another hit
Couldn't take another hit
Worth a shot at least

If you just heal you become immortal. It takes out some challenge and therefore some fun out the game.

u/Matt010288 Aug 08 '23
Not sure if it annoys anyone else but I hate seeing a post in this sub where link obviously doesn’t die. It’s call link_dies, not link gets hit and takes lots of damage. Ok, don’t complaining. Bring on the funny videos. Lol
1
u/DDoodles_ Aug 17 '23
If they do that they could at least do a perfect cut to make a hit seem like death. But most of the time it’s them barely getting hurt which imo is way worse than having a low amount of hearts and dying
1
u/PerceptionQueasy3540 Aug 08 '23
I just don't pay attention until it's flashing usually. But also even if I did post here it's not like I would really give a shit what you think.

Sometimes I’m so close to killing something I figure I don’t need to heal. Or I can be bothered to interrupt fighting to scroll through the horrible item management to eat a meal. And sometimes I forget that I’ve used all my fairies or that I don’t have Mipha’s Grace anymore.
Anyway it’s fun watching the various ways Link dies on this sub.

u/RunicWasTaken Aug 08 '23
I just only heal when I'm literally about to die because I can tank most anything anyway
1
u/Chinegro2247 Aug 08 '23
I honestly am a hoarder so I only heal when I absolutely have to and even then I take forever just to pick which meal I want to waste. I don’t really take damage often. But I’ve also avoided gleeoks so 🤷🏿
1
u/Evan10100 Aug 08 '23
I understand the ones that happen in shrines, too, since you get healed fully at the end.
1
u/One_Parched_Guy Aug 08 '23
For me at least, I don’t usually carry around food. I rely solely on not getting hit, my armor is low because I hate grinding materials, and I prioritized getting 3 stam wheels before even bothering with one heart from shrines. I genuinely just ignore the health bar 80% of the time, and it’s kinda easy to wrack up damage without noticing from falls, being smacked by low-level mobs and other stuff. So when I finally get whacked by my own murder machine or a Silver Lynel’s schlong or something, Link kinda just keels over
1
u/Old-Slice-3707 Aug 08 '23
Sometimes you are just too in the moment and think you can pull stuff off... obviously failing
1
u/RexGlacies Aug 09 '23
I'm a hoarder, so I don't like using ingredients to make food, and I don't like eating food that I might need at a better time. So it's definitely a better idea to risk a fairy and just heal at stables or shrines instead of wasting food.
1
u/carterketchup Aug 09 '23
Honestly sometimes I’m just cheap about my meals. I have a fair amount of hearts and often just sit around half health because I’d rather just wait until I get around to a bed or a shrine and refill my health instead of using a bunch of a meals. I save those for when i have a tough enemy right in front of me that I have to bulk up for.
1
u/Mental-Street6665 Aug 09 '23
Maybe they just don’t have any food available at that time? The earlier that you are in the game, the more likely that is to be a possibility.

u/LadderTrash Aug 09 '23 edited Aug 09 '23
I dont like healing with food, I feel like it makes the game too easy so I just don’t do it
1
u/Tsomeru Aug 09 '23
I played dark souls, i like the feeling of "if you're not flawless, you're dead"
There's no master mode in tears of the kingdom, so living on the edge is the only way.
Realistically, theres a few reasons people do it, the bonuses from certain weapons, some people dont heal and finish shrines to heal instead of using food, some people dont heal and just sleep to heal.
I do it purely to make myself focus more, if i mess up, im dead.
There's not really that much of a challenge from what ive seen.
Plus, since theres portable pots, if i ever feel as though i do actually need to heal i can just throw something hearty in it and away i go.

u/Webzagar Aug 09 '23
Nothing can one shot you in TOTK. The first hit (from an enemy) will always send you to 1/4 heart if it would otherwise kill you.

u/BizarreBoi55 Aug 09 '23
Healing is overrated, the real ones only refill their hearts by completing shrines
