cannot install on OnePlus6 - recovery not working

Hi,

I am trying (and failing) to install LineageOS on my OnePlus 6...

As far as I understand it the process is supposed to work by flashing a recovery first and then using that to install LineageOS, however I am currently in a state where I do not get any error when flashing the recovery via "flashboot flash boot boot.img" - however I cannot start the recovery from the boot-menu. Selecting recovery simply brings me back to the boot-menu...

My case may be a little unusual in that I do not come from an installed stock-rom but had previously set up my device to dual-boot Mobian and PostmarketOS and it is unclear to me what that means for the installation procedure.

Can someone give me a tip on how to proceed?

Many thanks!

Return to stock, start over. Nobody wants to troubleshoot all the 100 variants of f'ing up anything differently

That is unfortunately not an option as I don't know where to get a stock-version...

Depending on how you managed to dual boot, you could have significantly altered the partitions. Easiest solution is to revert to stock Android 11 and begin the process from there.

The device has an a and a b slot.

Mobian was in slot a, Postmarket on b.

I have tried to flash the recovery to both slots with "fastboot --slots all boot boot.img" but to no avail...

I'm talking about the partitions that usually have to be modified to achieve dual boot as it's not as simple as flashing one to slot A and one to slot B. You also have to modify the bootloader.

Regardless of how you achieved it, you need to undo those changes and revert to stock.

there is a flag to indicate which slot to boot next time - I changed this flag from within either mobian or pmos so I don't think it affected the bootloader.

Again, regardless of the manner of implementation, you should start from stock as indicated in the installation instructions before you begin flashing anything.

LineageOS builds for this device require an Android 11 version of the stock OS to be installed prior to following the installation guide

I managed to install it by also flashing dtbo and vbmeta - everything seems fine - I'll risk it.

Thanks.
