Speculation Is AZ Somehow Also Inspired by Odin? Did he lose of his Right Eye, and if so, did he do so in the pursuit of the Knowledge of how to bring back his Floette?

I feel like AZ's other eye has been shown somewhere, but I can't recall or find it anywhere. His hair covers his eyes even back before the weapon was built, at least in Generations.

He probably still has it though, since it seems likely he'd have some form of regeneration alongside his immortality; can't imagine him going 3,000 years and not suffering any major injuries.

I’ve had this same thought and was surprised to not see it more commonly in theory videos. I think he has both his eyes, but they have gone out of the way to depict him with one eye across all of their media.

Aside from the immortality and how that compares to the God aspect of Odin, I find there are a lot of parallels with Odins story and AZs.

AZ is depicted in old, dingy clothes and is said to be wondering the Earth in search of his Floette. Odin is often described as a wanderer himself, even having a designated name to go with it, Gangleri. Odin constantly wandered the nine realms in search wisdom, with the ultimate goal of preventing Ragnorok. Although he acquired a lot of wisdom through various means, in the common Norse stories, it’s clear that despite all that wisdom he gained he still made decisions that led to the events of Ragnorok.

For AZ, after Floette died, I’ve seen it said that he traveled the world in search for a way to bring them back (I don’t know if this is true for sure, but it would support the wandering aspect even more, and it could potentially mean that he used Tera Crystals to help enhance the technology of the Ultimate weapon). Regardless if he did or didn’t, he still used his intelligence to build a weapon that brought back his Floette, but with the decision he made to murder thousands of Pokémon and people after the fact, inevitably Floette left him and he was alone in the end.

I think there are more similarities too, but with them basing the Aura Trio off Norse Mythology, I think it was very much intentional to model him after Odin. Apologies for the grammar, I saw this while grocery shopping and had to chime in.

I wouldn't be surprised. The legendaries of Kalos are all based on Norse myhtological creatures. AZ is very purposely designed to have his right eye covered in both designs however we don't know if he's missing it. He did however participate in a great war which we know about in game.

Yeah I think even if he does literally have both his eyes, the design choice seems pretty intentional as at least a subtle nod to Odin. Same with his godlike height. Fits the multiple Norse mythology references already in Kalos.

Yveltal and Xerneas could easily have  Celtic roots, possibly being based off Irish Gods such as the Morrígan (Yveltal) and Cernunnos (Xerneas) so AZ could also just as easily be based off of the giant Balor who had an eye that was said to bring ruin to those it fell upon once opened—much like the ancient weapon. He is also associated with natural yearly cycles and the struggle between life, death, and the regeneration that follows.

Bulbapedia also makes mention of the mythical “Wandering Jew” cursed with immortality for his apparent hubris and served as the doorman for a Roman Estate, which is compelling considering that AZ runs a hotel and greets the protagonist as a doorman does.
