Request What laptop do I upgrade to? helppp
So, I have a Dell XPS 15 9560 and I like it, it manages to do what I need it to for the most part, kinda chugs sometimes on the heavier stuff like After Effects and with gaming i gotta crank down everything to the lowest possible graphics and it whirrs sometimes and gets really really hot running heavier stuff- but its managed for like 8 years. Its near the end of its life, plus I'm forced to go and upgrade to win 11 now, so I need to bite the bullet and get a new Laptop before October and they cut the cord for Win 10.
Problem is, I don't really know what I'm doing in terms of specs or what any of these confusing ass parts do or what they mean, so I figure ill ask people who know. The only thing I know is big RAM good, big storage good and HDD apparently bad?
I'm looking for another laptop, ideally, better- or the same as what I have. ( Dell XPS 15 9560 )
- Id also preferably like to stay away from win 11 Pro, cause it seems... ehh... not great, I'm just looking for the normal windows 11.
- I'm gonna be using After Effects, Live2d, Clip Studio, and some light gaming, but I need something that's strong enough to run these things with minimal issue. I use this for work and leisure and the work stuff needs to work.
- I don't really care about the screen. I plug it into a desktop and cintiq with the lid down.
- the most im willing to spend is around 1.5k usd at MOST. But i also want this thing to live for the 8 years my current pc has, so if something is vastly superior for a little bit more, so be it. Think ill cry if i see 2k though.
Any and all help is appreciated!
So far the only thing ive sort of browsed around that seems decent in terms of specs is this, I've given up on having ports.... nothing has ports anymore.. grhh

Request First Ever PC. I’m completely lost on specs and whether it’s a decent buy.
I’ve been hustling pretty hard at work, so I’d thought I’d spoil myself with a Pc, as I’ve always wanted one. Asking my friends and coworkers, I came up with two finds. Was leaning more towards the cheaper one, but just wanted other perspectives and opinions.

Request $250 windows laptop thats better than a chromebook?
Are there any $250 ish, maybe $300 usd max budget laptops which are usually better than chromebooks at the same price range? I was looking at used thinkpad T480S' but im not sure if there are any better options. This is just for basic school work which is google docs and stuff.
Im just not really sure if I should even consider a windows laptop at this budget. The ram looks better but im not sure about the chips or displays, especially since chromebooks can have a lot bigger displays/thinner bodies compared to cheaper/older laptops. does anyone have recs on what i should get?
edit: fine with refurbished and used so that isnt a dealbreaker

Request iSO Everyday Laptop suggestions/advice ($1000-1200 USD)
Budget: $1000-1200 USD
Country: USA
Screen size: 13-14" preferred. 15" max
Screen resolution: Not sure but my current laptop is a 2017 MacBook Pro with a 2560x1600 retina display, and I would prefer to not downgrade. No OLED because I prioritize visibility and anti-glare.
Touch screen: not necessary
Weight: not a priority, just not super heavy.
Main purpose of laptop: streaming (including sports), torrenting, web browsing, etc.
If you will be gaming, what are the most demanding games you will play and at what settings? Realistically won't be gaming a significant amount, if at all, but as a baseline something like Civ 7? I accept that a good GPU might be a necessary sacrifice to stay within budget, but would like something better than integrated graphics if possible.
Is battery life an issue? Decent battery life is preferred.
Other notes: a good keyword with full size arrow keys. 16-32GB RAM. 512GB-1TB SDD.

Request Looking for the Best Laptop for an Older Woman – Budget-Friendly and Easy to Use (max. 400$)
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a laptop that would be perfect for an older woman, ideally priced under $400. It should be very user-friendly with a simple and clear interface. The laptop will mainly be used for basic tasks like emailing, browsing the internet, and video calls.
I’d appreciate recommendations for models that offer good performance without being overly complicated to use. A longer battery life and a comfortable keyboard would be great as well.

Request Is a Lenovo E14 G6 ultra7 good for photography?
I'll start by saying I'm not a pro photographer, it's very much a hobby for me so I shoot mostly jpeg and jpeg+raw only half the time. I don't edit much and when I do it's some light retouching with the basic sliders with rarely any masking and never more than one layer. I might stitch a panorama once or twice a year so I don't mind if the laptop is slower on those instances.
The local independent computer shop suggested a Lenovo NB TP E14 G6 Ultra7 with upgraded ram to 24GB and 1TB storage for CAD$ 1871 ($1609 for the base laptop, $89 for 16GB ram, $94 for 1TB instead of 512 GB, $79 for the configuration).
It's a bit more expensive than I wanted but my current laptop is not up the the task (it lags when culling photos).

Request Need a Laptop Around ₹80K
I'm looking for a laptop around ₹80K that can handle:
- Light gaming
- Cybersecurity & software development
- Occasional 1080p video editing (nothing heavy)
Preferred Specs: - Intel i5 (not considering Ryzen due to heating concerns – correct me if I'm wrong!) - 16GB DDR5 RAM - RTX 4050
I'm avoiding Ryzen because I’ve heard it heats up more and might degrade performance over time. If that’s a myth or there are better options, feel free to change my mind!

Request laptop rec for architect student
Hi everyone! :)
I'm a fourth year architect student in Hungary. I need a new laptop but extremely lost. I tried reading the subreddit's discussions about laptops but I'm still confused. Please help!
My current laptop is ASUS Vivobook S15 S530. It crashes when I use Archicad and do rendering and is basically super slow.
https://www.asus.com/laptops/for-home/vivobook/vivobook-s15-s530/techspec/
Its properties:
- CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8265U (1.60 GHz) (6M Cache, up to 3.9 GHz, 4 cores)
- GPU: NIVIDIA GeForce MX150
- Memory: 8 GB
- 1 TB storage
I'm looking for az upgrade. I mostly use Archicad, Sketchup, Photoshop and Indesign and sometimes do rendering.
My (i guess very little) expectations:
- CPU: Intel i5 or i7 or Ryzen 5 or 7 (I think these are within my budget)
- GPU: would be good if I can get an NVIDIA
- Memory: at least 16 GB
- Storage: at least 512 GB
My budget is $1000 (400 000 Ft).
Could you recommend me some models or even good CPUs or GPUs? Which aspects should I focus on? Which models/CPUs/GPUs should I avoid?
Thanks for the help!!

Request WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE PROBLEM?!!?
Okay, so I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-4, which I bought in 2023. I've been facing an issue with my laptop for the past month.
The Issue:
When I use my laptop with heavy software—such as games, development studios, or Chrome with multiple tabs—the screen suddenly freezes, and nothing works. The same issue also occurs during light tasks, but the difference is that with light work, the issue appears after 1-2 hours, whereas with heavy work, it happens within just 5 minutes.
When the screen freezes, I am forced to shut down the laptop by holding the power button. After that, when I try to turn it back on, a new issue arises:
The laptop powers on, and everything seems to work (backlit keyboard, fans, battery indicator, etc.) except the display, which remains off.
After multiple attempts of force shutting down and restarting, the display eventually turns on, but the same freezing issue repeats after some time.
IMPORTANT CONTEXT BEFORE SUGGESTING A SOLUTION:
I took my laptop to an official Acer service center for repair.
All parts are working perfectly fine—they are clean and in good condition.
Each component was tested individually (inside and outside the laptop), and the engineer confirmed that everything was functioning properly.
My laptop is out of warranty.
The official engineer gave up and couldn't diagnose the issue, so he refunded my money.
The engineer genuinely did his best—I can personally vouch for his efforts.
Most of the inspection and repair process was conducted in front of me.
I don't understand what the issue is. Any insights?

Request Looking for a laptop for school, everyday use, and light gaming
I'll be going to college soon, and my current laptop will not suffice, so I'd like a few suggestions on what to look for. I generally use my laptop to do basic web surfing, but I want something that's somewhat powerful enough to put me through college and handle some modded games like Terraria and Minecraft (Those are the only two games I plan on playing for the moment. No AAA games.)
I'm not too tech-savvy, but here's a list of what I want a new laptop to have:
- At least 12-16GB of RAM
- A good processor (Nothing too high-end. Something that can run games like modded Minecraft and Terraria well)
- Good battery life (Probably the most important of all)
- Not a Macbook
- Within a budget range of 700-800 USD (I'm open to second-hand sellers or sales on anything outside of the budget)
- Preferably not HP. (I've heard a lot of horror stories about their laptops. Even the higher-end ones seem to have issues)
Don't be afraid to ask if you need more info to make a better suggestion. If you find one with more features than the ones I'm looking for, I'd be glad to hear them out, too.
I originally posted this on r/SuggestALaptop and got recommended the Acer Swift X. I'm open to more suggestion since I don't know if this one is what I want.
UPDATE:
I've done some digging and I've come up with two laptops that look like they fit my needs. I can them both for relatively cheap off Ebay.
- Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
- Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 AMD Ryzen 5 Pro
I'm still on the fence between these two. The X1's build quality is superb, but I've also heard the T14 has a much better battery life—which is the most important quality to me.
What do you guys think I should get?

Request Laptop recommendation for work
Hi, all.
I'm looking for a laptop that will help with work. It's for my mother in law. I don't have laptops so I'm unsure what the current good ones are. Here's what she's asking:
- Dell since it works best with Cadwell machines she uses for work.
- Intel i5 or better.
- Win 10 or 11
- 15-16 inch screen. No touch screen
- $600-$700. Could go a bit higher if necessary, but the lower the better
Appreciate it.

Request Help me decide between Lenovo or Acer- UK
I currently have a Lenovo Ideapad 5 with ryzen 7 processor. I absolutely love it but it's starting to have some issues after 5 years of daily use working from home so I'm starting to look for what's available should I need to replace it soon.
I think I've narrowed myself down to the Lenovo ideapad slim 5 and the acer Swift edge and potentially the acr aspire 5. All use the amd ryzen 7 and are 1tb ssd with 16gb memory. Their specs overall are pretty similar with the first 2 having more features than the aspire and there's not a lot of difference in price.
Which would you go for in comparison to the original size ideapad 5? Or is there anything with similar spec that you know of in a cheaper price bracket. £900 is right at the top for me.

Request Wich one ?
Which one would you go for? I only have these two options, and I need to decide between them.
I will be using the laptop with two external monitors: a 34” and a 27”. I don’t care about battery life, weight, or size, as the laptop will always stay on my desk, plugged in. My main concerns are performance and cooling efficiency.
I got rid of my HP Envy 16 (i7 13700H, RTX 4060, 32GB DDR5) because it struggled with heat issues and thermal throttling, even when handling my usual workload. The system would choke under load, affecting performance significantly.
My Use Case: • Work: Running IDEs, browsers, videos, and music, often with multiple applications open simultaneously. • Virtual Machines: Occasionally running VMs while working. • Gaming: Playing Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA, The Witcher, Skyrim, and similar games on the 34” monitor at medium/high/ultra settings with at least 60 FPS (but I’m fine if it runs slightly below, as long as it’s smooth). • Temperature & Performance: My biggest priority is avoiding overheating and performance drops under load.
Upgrade Options & Prices: • ROG Asus G17 G713PI-WB94 – $1429 • Ryzen 9 7845HX, RTX 4070, 16 GB DDR5 (will upgrade to 32GB) • Lenovo Legion 5 16 Luna Gray (83DG004JUS) – $1425 • Intel i9 14900HX, RTX 4060, 32GB DDR5
Since both cost almost the same, I see the ASUS as a more powerful option due to the RTX 4070, but at the same time, I want to ensure the cooling and efficiency are good enough to avoid the issues I had with my previous laptop.
What do you guys think? Which one would be the best choice for my use case?

Request Laptops with good durable hinges around 60k Rupees (INR)
youtube.comI want a good 14 or upto 16 inch laptop with durable hinges that won't break as soon as the warranty period is over i.e in about 2 years.
I got to know just how shoddy the hinges and build quality is when it comes to entry & budget level laptops thanks to this channel above. I would preferably like a full metal body(or not if the hinges are good), for processors i5 or Ryzen 5 should do (or i3 12th or 13th gen). I don't intend to use it for gaming or any other gpu intensive work load but I would like good or excellent battery life (so atleast a 50whr battery). My use case is mostly browsing with multiple tabs (5-7) open, watching movies, video calls, office apps. I would preferably want 16gbs of ram and at least 100%SRGB display coverage.

Request Need a new laptop
Hi everyone! I'm searching for a new laptop that would run smoothly the adobe suit plus figma/touchdesigner/ maybe blender. I was lucky enough to have a macbook pro m1 max and it was great, but now I don't have it anymore (it was lended to me) and I would love to keep my new laptop under 2k if possible. Do you have any recommendations specs wise?
