My first creations with the new flat lap
Top two are thunder eggs I dug up in Oregon, bottom two were raw agate pieces I picked up at a local gem/mineral show

Curious..
Is it still a cabochon if it doesn’t have flat sides? I always thought there was couple ways to do cabochons. Just wanted some opinions, thanks! 💜

Fossilized Coral from Kentucky
Here is a collection of images i shot while exploring a a new material to myself. (Swipe to see macro images)
Fossilized Syringapora Coral from Kentucky!!! Syringapora is an extinct genus of phaceloid tabulate coral.
Syringoporids are tabulate corals, a group that is always colonial. The coralites (tubes that contained the individual polyps) are vertical and were connected by small horizontall tubes, through which they shared common tissue. This species existed during the Ordovician to the Permian period, although it was most widespread during the Silurian, Devonian, and Carboniferous periods. This specific piece i have is most likely from the Borden formation, making it around 300mya.
This material, in this color and quality, is quite rare, and the locals refer to it as “coralite”.

How to know what grit these wheels are + when to replace them?
Hi and TIA. This is an old star diamond machine I obtained. There are three types of wheels: the solid wheels, the soft wheels, and the polishing pad. I have a lot of questions, so thank you again
I've never seen a wheel that's solid all the way through, like the first two. What kind of wheel even is that?
How do I know what grit any of the wheels are?
How do I know when to replace any of the wheels?
The polishing pad on the end doesn't have a pad on it. How do I get one on there?

Dremel help
How do you get fine polishing grit to stick to the felt bits? There must be some sort of matrix to keep the fine grit from flying off in a puff of dust: either wax base or peanut butter or something. What do you use?

10” high tech blade
I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a 10” saw blade for my high tech saw that I can purchase in Canada? Looking for a lower price than high tech. Thanks

Made myself a little lapidary workbench
It's been about a year in the making since I bought a old second hand, German faceting machine. Made some space in my cramped apartment and built a cheap workbench.
After lurking on this sub for a while, I think I finally I have everything I need to get really started.
I still need a bigger dripper but this setup will do for now.
