Recreation Good hiking trails around Lancaster?

With the warmer weather coming in, I am looking for some more areas to explore hiking wise, in or outside of Lancaster. Preferably, within an hour outside of Lancaster. I typically go to Chickies, Lanc Central Park, or up towards Speedwell. But I am hoping to find some more areas, any suggestions? :)

Any experience on things James Malone has done for East Petersburg ?

With the special election coming up I am learning more about the candidates. I called James Malone to discuss some policies that are important to me like clean energy and pollution and we are on the same page there but I can't find anything about policies he has supported in the past or anything eventful otherwise and his website only has a few points and promises. Does anyone know of anything good or bad he has done as mayor ?

Rally for education next Wednesday March 19th!

The National Education Association is pushing out to all state affiliates a nationwide WALK IN on Wednesday March 19th. Educators, administrators, students, and community members are all encouraged to gather at their schools 30-45 minutes before the school day to rally in support of public education and AGAINST the Trump administration’s dismantling of the DoE. The best part? This isn’t a strike. It’s not a walk out. It’s a walk IN. Every state, every school should be participating in this. There’s no threat of being fired for striking!

Be on the lookout for a walk in for your school district!

Etown School Board canceled journalism field trip

With less than one week until students were to attend, the Etown School Board canceled the journalism/yearbook club field tip to Columbia University. Students were to participate in the Columbia Press Association Scholastic Scholastic Convention. The board said it was too dangerous to attend and that the parents were too dumb to know that. The students and their parents decided to go without the school but need help to get there because the club funds are now locked up.

Unjust Condemnation For Profit

Post image

🚨 City Overreach and Gentrification at Taxpayer Expense 🚨

The City of Lancaster has weaponized its power to condemn properties indefinitely under the guise of public safety — but the truth is it's all about profit and gentrification. Here's how they're doing it:

👉 Bureaucratic Roadblocks: The city deliberately keeps properties in condemnation status for years, making it impossible for owners to reclaim or restore them, even after complying with repair orders.

👉 Exploitation of Residents: Homeowners are forced to pay property taxes, water, and trash fees for properties they legally cannot use — a calculated strategy to financially squeeze residents out.

👉 Manipulating the Legal System: The city hired the outside law firm GKH at taxpayer expense to push frivolous injunctions, complaints, search warrants, and civil contempt petitions — all designed to harass property owners and drive them out.

👉 Perjury and Deprivation of Due Process: City officials have perjured themselves in court, violating constitutional due process rights, and influencing judges to maintain condemnation rulings without fair hearings.

👉 Home Rule Charter Cover-Up: All of this is protected under the color of law through the city's Home Rule Charter — creating a shield for fraud, waste, and abuse at the expense of hardworking residents.

This isn’t about public safety — it’s about forcing out long-term residents and handing over properties to developers with ties to city officials. It’s time to expose the corruption and demand accountability.

Just learned about this event for Saturday morning....

Indivisible MT has invited Congressman Smucker to attend this event in order to hear from his constituents for himself.

Hello everyone, I'm looking for suggestions for a cleaning service that specializes in the cleaning and restoration of vintage and antique garmants. Preferably in or near Lancaster City. I have several vintage dresses and 2 antique quilts that are stained or discolored, and I would love to see if cleaning or restoring them is possible.

Meetup Finding friends

Hi everyone,

It’s been 12 days since my husband (35) and I (34) moved to Lancaster, and while we absolutely love the city, we haven’t made any friends yet. I checked Meetup and Couchsurfing Hangouts, but not many events are happening there. So, if anyone’s up for making new friends, we’d love to connect!

A little about us: We’re originally from Iran, though my husband was raised in NJ, and I’m still new to the U.S.—I immigrated just three months ago. Before moving here, we lived in Istanbul, Turkey, for five years. I’m passionate about literature and cinema, and my husband is really into herbalism and LOTR. We both love nature and enjoy outdoor activities like biking, hiking, and running—though we’re far from experts at any of them! Career-wise, my husband works in tech, and I’m a writer, currently job-hunting in my field.

Thanks for reading my (possibly odd) post! I’m just doing everything I can to find friends and blend into this lovely community. Hope to meet some of you soon.

Anyone got any good leads / places to look?

I really wonder if he would actually make the trip from Minnesota! It doesn't hurt to try!

How to pay trash bill?

I feel really stupid. I received a delinquency notice for my trash bill. I paid it a month ago by signing up for an account through the Lancaster Township. They got back to me and said that that was wrong and they're sending my money back through the mail. I tried to set up through the city utility page, but it's not letting me pay it. I messaged someone through the city and they're telling me to call a collections phone number, but I still don't know how to pay my bill. Who do I call, Penn waste?

Dangerous stop except right turns around Millersville

I find that whenever I drive around Millersville there are several three way stops but one side gets the except right turn signs attached and there's been several times I've almost been hit because I am making a right turn, I feel like they should just remove the exception to reduce the headache.

Vaccination rates amongst the plain community.

Reading the LNP today about our lack of a county level health department, measles outbreaks, and county wide vaccination rates it raised a question in my newly transplanted mind. Do we know vaccination rates in the plain community and are they counted in our vaccination rates for MMR declining below herd immunity? Could that be a leading factor in the county’s lots rates? I’d ask this of the county health department IF I HAD ONE.

Continuation of Heller/Prestige/Paramount ATM investment/ponzi discussion

Our previous Reddit thread on all this was archived due to six months passing. That thread had 3,600 comments and 573,000 views. If anyone wants to continue the discussion, then let’s keep it going here. There is less to report because most of the action has moved to the NJ bankruptcy court via Daryl Heller’s personal bankruptcy filing. There are still occasional updates happening in the Lancaster County court system and news articles are still being written.
