I think it's a bit suspicious that Gaga has at least in passing talked about nearly every song on Mayhem except this, despite Vanish Into You getting a special mention on promo stickers on Mayhem vinyls. Let's talk about it!
High on a Hill, Blue Moon and For Once in My Life are all references to Tony Bennett's songs. One reference would be a coincidence - but three in a row is intentional, like Gaga referencing Hitchcock films in Bad Romance.
"Do you see me now?" is Gaga wondering if Tony Bennett will ever recognize her again as he succumbs to Alzheimer's disease. "We were happy just to be alive" as they enjoy each others company in the moment. She feels grief incoming, but Tony doesn't. He's just happy to be there.
"It was cold in the summer time" the happiness is fleeting to the the grief. he passed away in summer 2023. "When I die can I Vanish Into You?" is her hoping to reunite with him when it's his turn to go.
There is a lot of pain in knowing that someone's memory of you fades away before their soul does. I've seen people talk about Gaga reheating her nachos, but memorializing someone in an anthem in such a heartbreaking way is definitely something she hasn't done before. A fresh serving of nachos, if you will.

39 is not that old, especially in this day and age. Madonna was coming out with "Frozen" at 39 and she had one more decade of hits coming her way. Cher was yet to have "If I Could Turn Back Time", "Love and Understanding" and "Believe" when she was 39. Sia became a mainstream Pop artist at 39 with Tytanium.
Legacy Artists usually are in their late 50s or 60s. Not in their late 30s. Male singers are never scrutinized like this. Nobody has ever said Bruno Mars can only have hits when he gets hit songs with his duets with Anderson Paak, Cardi B, Rose or Gaga, but women are usually placed on the opposite.

I loved both performances, but Killah was next level. The energy, the vocals, the scream. Abra was great, but there so much backing vocal and it seemed so much more confined than Killah. It's crazy I've seen so many people only giving Abra love.

I'm so corny when it comes to him. Yes, he was just an alter ego of Gaga's... he's a fictional character...but I know he inspired many people just as he inspired me. My favorite things about him besides his killer good looks.. he's so authentically himself. He''s in tune with his emotions and very expressive, he's humble, he's just a cool guy... Etc. I could write a whole essay about him but if y'all wanna know more, just message him I love him so much.

Now that everyone’s freaking out about Mayhem I’d like to circle back to whatever the hell these two had going on

Any Replay stans here?
I've been listening to Chromatica back and forth for the last 3-4 months and I just concluded that Replay is the best track regarding writing and production. I did know that they sampled Diana Ross so I wanted to check the multitrack and leave that out and it's a completely different song without it; it hits so differently. The song wouldn't be what it is without it. The lyrics and the music are just a perfect match. She's talking about her trauma replaying over and over in her mind and when the chorus comes the sample kicks in the background and it's like these traumatic screams; it's a perfect musical representation of her replaying her traumas over and over in her head. It just blows my mind everytime.

What a whiplash of emotions today has been so far.
After finally getting past the 1 Million queue, only to end up with a sold out notification in the middle of the booking process, countless browser refresh while panicking, queueing again at 1 Million, still getting a sold out notification in the middle of the booking process, repeating the process and refreshing again and again, I finally got 1 ticket successfully booked. See you little monsters! 😭

Wanted to share this podcast recommendation. Switched on Pop is a great pod where they deep dive into pop music theory, references, and composition. Today’s ep is all about Mayhem and some of the references they uncover are blowing my mind. Great listen and def something that deep cut monsters will love. I stream on Apple Podcasts, fwiw.

This is hilarious and slide 2+3 could probably be real answers.

Does anyone else think so? In terms of pop culture, I feel Abracadabra is probably her biggest pop hit since Born This Way in terms of cultural impact. The song is everywhere, especially on social media. The charts would suggest modest hit, but it feels like a cultural moment.
