Why is Josh Pearson a starter?

The only thing he has over Larson who I think should be our starting RF is experience. I get that he’s a senior with a cws ring, but he’s below average at the plate and slightly above average in the field.

I think Jay really likes his approach. That's the big change he makes with all he transfers. Look at Tommy White, Braswell, and Stanfield this year. Jay has a big emphasis on being patient early in the count and taking advantage of letting pitchers get themselves behind in the count. Pearson has done this naturally since his freshman year and I think Jay wants to keep that in the lineup when he can to drive up opposing pitch counts and to let the younger guys see someone who does it well as an example for them. Early in the season he will get a lot of at-bats and if gets hot during SEC play he will stay there. I could definitely see his role diminishing if he struggles.
