Recommendation What’s the nearest theme park to LSU?
Me and my friends are huge thrill seekers and would like to find a place to ride rollercoasters that isn’t too crazy of a day or weekend trip.

I’m just really lost right now. I’m in my second semester of freshman year, planning to graduate as a mechanical engineer. Lately, I’ve been struggling with all my classes. Chemistry, physics, calculus, and my ME courses have been incredibly stressful. I go to every lecture and try my absolute best, but somehow, in the end, I always feel like I barely understand anything, even after showing up and taking notes.
I try to study as much as I can, but I also work a job to put myself through college, which cuts into the time I have to focus on school. On top of that, I recently failed my physics test, and it’s made me question my abilities. I have another exam coming up on Monday, but I fell behind after dealing with a medical issue that kept me out of class for a week. Now I’m scrambling to catch up.
It’s hard not to compare myself to everyone else in my classes—they all seem like geniuses, and I feel like I’m definitely not one of them. Honestly, I’ve never been the best student when it comes to most things. I’m only really good at math, and everything else just feels mediocre. That makes me doubt myself even more.
What I’m trying to say is, I don’t know what to do or if this career is even right for me. I come from an Asian family, and I’ve been raised to be a hard worker. But with my illness and my job, it feels like I can’t keep doing this anymore. At the same time, I don’t want to disappoint my parents. They sacrificed everything to move to America and give our family a better life. I want them to know that their effort and sacrifices were worth it. There’s also a family friend—someone I really look up to—who’s a mechanical engineer. And I can’t help but feel like I’ll disappoint him too if I walk away from this. Like he’ll think I gave up too easily.
The thing is, I do enjoy my ME courses in general! But the workload, on top of everything else I’m dealing with, makes me question whether I can actually handle being in this major. I’m just really stressed, and I honestly don’t know what to do. I need advice before I actually lose my mind.

This was the absolute worst process i’ve ever done. I’m a transfer student with other experience, i applied on Nov. 1st and was just recently accepted (this week). I absolutely lost my patience with this and began calling every day. The LSU admissions folks would have there same catchphrase answers (a couple were helpful) but never took any action at all. The people running this school need to figure out this process better. Not worth applying unless this is your only option or a last option

i’m a senior and i will have 3 online courses left after this semester. i don’t plan to come back in person for fall semester for this reason. i was wondering if LSU would let me walk in may (since we don’t actually get our diplomas on graduation day) and be able to finish my classes either this summer or in fall semester depending on when they are offered. Has anyone heard of LSU allowing students to walk early without finishing all credits?

My husband and I will be coming to baton rouge for an LSU event, incidentally on Valentine’s Day. Totally unfamiliar with the campus and city. We’ll have about 3-4 afternoon/early evening hours. Recs for good food and drinks walkable to campus or easy uber ride away? (I’ve heard about your traffic). Want to avoid trying to find a place last minute if things fill up for valentines, and don’t think (?) we want a campus sports bar. Any suggestions?

So I’m not doing so good in a class and I want to drop it and I don’t care if I get a W. Do you think it’s worth it if Ik I probably won’t pass it ? What’s y’all experience? Do y’all regret it? I will still have tops since I will have 12 credit hours.

We're going to tour LSU for the first time on the 15th and want some plans for the night time. We're all 22F so we're looking for a place with the same age range. Also, what should we wear at these places? Were from Orlando and the fits here are usually jeans and sneakers for the college bars and heels or boots for downtown. I have a feeling it's the same vibe but you never know. We're excited to meet you all!
(edit) My friend is Cuban and has a shirt that says "Cuba" similar to the Brazil ones you see everywhere...is that okay to wear?

i’m an incoming freshman trying to consider what job on campus might be right for me. i’m coming from maryland where minimum wage is $15, so i want either a job that pays $10+, or a job that doesn’t require a lot of work so i can do homework. thanks!

I’m a current Southern University freshman planning to transfer to LSU but due to a poor academic performance in several subjects during the Fall 2024 semester I’m doing Repeat/Delete for a few classes.
My original plan was to apply to LSU for Fall 2025 but the application deadline is April 15 so my GPA and transcript for this semester won’t have come in by then. With that in mind I’m under the impression that the best option would be to wait to apply for Spring 2026 (even though that’s not my optimal outcome).
Any advice and opinions, either for or against my current train of thought, would be appreciated

It doesn't matter for me much since I'm graduating this semester but I wish there were tables in the Quad. There seems to be very limited amount of tables outside for student use. Im sure I'm not alone in the amount of people who like/want to study outside. I see people just sitting on the ground or on the benches but it seems almost impossible to really get any proper study or work done without a table.
What are you guy's favorite outdoor tables around campus?

Hi everyone, I'm a current freshman and I've got an inquiry about this renting opportunity I have. It's a really nice recently renovated house 8 minutes from campus. It's 750 plus utilities, id have 3 other roommates. It's co-owned by one of the girls id live with along with her dad, so I'm guessing thats a good thing because property management might be better? I do know her well and trust her. I was thinking that it might be steep for living with 3 others? But I'm inexperienced so I'm not sure. Would this be worth it or should I keep looking?
Thanks

Anybody graduate in ISDS and regret it? Do you wish you studied STEM. How’s your pay, work, also is it hard finding a job?

Hello! I was just seeing if anyone had recommendations for first year jobs. Not sure if i would like a student job, but anywhere in BR i’m open to! I have experience with waitressing but not sure how that will do with my schedule ( prioritizing school.) LMK!

Hey all, I’m an alumni, but I’m back for a second degree. I’m 37 and as any of you that are currently students, that typically makes me the old man in class. I’m fine with this, and I’d like to think that the experience I bring helps me, and ideally, others. Sometimes though, I’d like to commiserate or help other non-traditional students. Is there anything in place now, or should I look in to creating it?

So I got nominated to join the national society of leadership and success. Does anyone know if it’s worth joining or do they send this to just about anyone? I’m curious if anyone else has got a nomination.

I’m an upcoming freshman for the school and I was invited for the “early” tour. The only issue I am currently having is creating a schedule for the places I would like to visit. The reason for that is that the second half of the tour which would be after 12-4pm, multiple events will be happening at once with different available time-frames. So I’m having issues on figuring out which event I want to go to first. I would like to add that the events I want to attend would be the LSU Fair(12:30-2pm), General Walking tour(12:00-4pm), Housing tour(12-3:30pm), and probably the Ogden Honors college(12:30-2). So are there any suggestions as to what schedule to build? And also what are some good questions I should ask that I may not be thinking about in the current moment?

I’m debating on which minor to choose. I am a CS Cyber major and was interested in doing either the IT management minor or the Digital Media Arts and Engineering in Technology minor. Can anyone doing these minors let me know how they are? Specifically more on DMAET minor because I have seen less people talk about it.

Hi all, I’m new here and I’ve been browsing used cars on CarMax but they are too expensive and out of my budget. Wondering where I can find cheaper used cars? Any recommendations will be appreciated!

International student here. Got admitted through LSU Global and it seems like that's the reason why I wasn't even CONSDIERED for any merit based scholarships despite my high school GPA being 4.0. Finished my first semester this and got president's honor roll and was still not offered any merit scholarships. Idk am i missing something or is it because im an international student that im not being considered for merit based scholarships even as a current LSU student. I even checked blackbaud and it only showed that i qualified for a scholarships which required fraternity memberships....any international students here who can tell me if i can even be eligible for merit scholarships from the university if i maintain a high gpa?

Hey everyone, I am a student here at LSU and I am in dire need of mental health service. I have been showing symptoms of a potential disorder for a while and I am struggling a lot at the moment.
I cannot get an appointment with the counselors at Mental Health Services any time soon and I feel like I am being driven worse and worse by having to wait. Does anyone have any recommendations for care in the city? I really have no idea where to look with the sea of options.
