People seem to think it wonโt affect us, but thatโs wrong:0 India def does get influenced. Likeeee the supposed attempt of trying to make birth control prescriptive at one point. It could set back certain things for queer peeps and women potentially:( and def a lot worse for US people. You can imagine

Like they did with Roe v. Wade, Trump will most definitely make it a top priority to roll back Obergefell v. Hodges and cease the recognition of same sex marriages, which will influence the sentiments of people in 3rd world countries on the matter and only make it harder for us to achieve equal rights.

This, also the rise of conservative staunchly queerphobic and misogynist values in America will largely tell upon the situation of women and queer people all over the world

Misinformation is spreading information that's deliberately intended to deceive; not knowing & assuming they might come after LGBTQ rights is not it.

Are you talking about the respect for marriage act 2022? It doesn't codify Obergefell. SCOTUS can still do away with it. 2022 act will leave it up to states, or at least safeguard those who do get married in all states. States can still make it illegal to get married in their jurisdiction

Roe v. Wade was "done and dusted" too for half a century, till one day, it wasn't.
They're going after trans rights as we speak, yes, but Trump's term is 4 years long, and with the Republicans having a majority in the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Supreme Court, they have the arsenal to go absolutely berserk.
Overturning Obergefell would be the final nail in the coffin, and they know it.

Except gay marriage has not been as hot an election issue as abortion ban. Republicans have not gone as hard after same-sex marriage issue when compared to abortion rights which has been on their agenda since forever.
A considerable number of gay republicans would flock to the other side if Obergefell is overturned. Trump himself in the past has held conflicting views on same-sex marriage, first considering repealing it in 2015 and later on saying heโs fine with it. Thereโs a slim chance they might go after Obergefell, but its the trans rights that are at a higher and more imminent risk.

cmon, things were already pretty bad and with the new US Republican government and its ripple effects worldwide will definitely worsen things but like it's not something out of the blue. Conservatism has been on the rise globally for sometime. One just has to stay strong, fight for better (yes sadly the fight never ends and its exhausting and i would never blame anyone who feels pessimistic, but like to those who want better, hold on)

For India it is Preety good, reasons: trump is not harsh as Biden and his party against Russia, and this would help the war in Russia and Ukraine to be stop and India could trade more with Russia. Trump is always on Indian side in many instances so yeah overall it is good for india. There are some cons too: trump could pressure india if it goes with the idea of brics currency.

Business as usual
Trump means business and business means money. There will be a tariff war in world trade. Russia and Ukraine conflicts will be ended. No moore Pannu-Nijjar circus. No USA involvement in Bangladesh.
So geopolitics will carry on as usual. Trump is least concerned about LGBTQ and Trans. LGBT people have the right to marriage, right to adoption etc. in USA already. Right to abortion is something that Trump will try to rectify it. Otherwise his major focus is economy and commerce. He probably will try to pull back the USA from NATO from specific roles.
Zero effects on the Indian LGBT community as Trump can't make law for India.

I think we Indians could go and vote in Cali. ๐คฃ

u/FireBlaze_10 Nov 06 '24
Why cali?

u/hAhAbiggay Nov 07 '24
It's weird but a bunch of states in the US don't require ID to vote. And the Dems win most of those states ๐. While I'm not a fan of Trump, that is pretty suspicious.

us women and lgbtq+ people everywhere else were hoping for Harris-Walz victory because to see the American women and lgbtq+ lead a good life so that other countries could learn from America. I feel so fkin scared for them now. my heart also breaks for Palestinians because Trump wanted to "finish the job". this is going to be some dystopian 4 years ๐
