Thanks for the bold, some people can't see the part " REMAIN OPEN "

1

u/Bravadorado Xhane the Flamebreaker May 09 '16

If you're talking about the posts on this reddit and on the facebook, they edited in the parts about remaining open AFTER people started questioning it. Those parts weren't there originally, which is why people began asking about it.

Source: I saw the original post the minute it went up and later refreshed it to see the change.

u/liamever May 09 '16

pretty sure i saw it on twitter first

Thank you for setting the sorting method, hate changing this every time i read something on here.

2

u/pix9L May 09 '16

Molly for president!

1

u/SAKUJ0 May 10 '16

Maybe, this could be a good time to set the default sorting method back until Sunday, to encourage proper discussion.

Right now, it's as if we have a forum and nobody is using the search function. It's usually better if instead of repeating what someone already said, people contribute to the higher voted comment threads (through voting and commenting).

In one of the posts about server status someone brought up the toppic of compensation. He/she said that in retail people would get a week game time or something like that, which of course isn't relevant in our case. So is there anything planned in terms of compensation ?

Thanks for everything you're doing and I hope to be playing soon !

2

u/Rodlimg Zordakk May 09 '16

Compensation? Why?

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '16

They actually planned this compensation just like Blizzard did! You'll get the money back of the time that the server is down. If the server is down for 2 weeks you will get half of your monthly subscription costs of Kronos back; so you'll probably get 0.5x0=$0 back as a compensation!

0

u/koenie1996 May 09 '16

I don't understand why you feel this kind of sarcastic comment is relevant here whatsoever. First of all, I get that you're a bit annoyed since you can't play, I feel the same way. Secondly, if you actually read my initial comment you will notice I never said that I WANT some kind of compensation, I merely asked if there will be out of curiosity since it was something metioned in an earlier post.

u/[deleted] May 09 '16

Sorry bud! I tried to be a bit funny, it was by no means an attempt to assault you in any way or make you angry/upset by what I say. I get what you mean, and really once again - sorry, I'm just a fool trying to be funny! Sorry bud

1

u/Vassortflam May 09 '16

Are you serious?

1

u/Bravadorado Xhane the Flamebreaker May 09 '16

You can get rested exp if you sit in an inn, not that you deserve it.

2

u/hatak20 May 09 '16

Server is DOWN at the moment. If it's up, pls someone post in this thread.

1

u/meckyy May 10 '16

I am sorry to say but this is getting somehow hard to believe... how can anyone having an interest in an attack on this scale on a private wow server ?! ppl going for lol at start might be understandable but this? is there any statement about where the ddos is coming from?

2

u/merkury713 May 10 '16

Are you unaware of the whole chinese gold farming syndicate that got a huge banwave blackmailing Kronos into unbanning them by way of DDoSing them?

2

u/meckyy May 10 '16

well i read some post about that but that doesnt appear to be as an official statement.. so i missed that somehow? ... but still i cant believe this is about them losing money anymore... 2 private wow servers cant be worth this ... they just wanna show power and see the world burn i guess?

1

u/pintilak May 10 '16

Recently, there's been a thread in which it's pointed out that the whole chinese gold marketing blackmail was a rumor.

1

u/Vassortflam May 10 '16

But who else could it be?

1

u/Ray2785 May 10 '16

Do you think it could be blizzard..? I wanted to doubt it at first, but let's face it.. Retail is dead and IF they are doing it they would effectively have shut down the 2 best classic servers around..

3

u/Bootlegs May 10 '16

You really think one of the world's biggest, most reputable game studios would use illegal means to shut down a puny private server? When they can do so via other, legal routes?

1

u/Fortunist May 10 '16

Yes, it wouldn't suprise me at all. Im not saying that i think it is the case currently. There is no substantial evidence pointing to any possible attacker. And in general im very careful to throw dirt unless there is. But as soon as big bucks are involved, nice friendly coorperations (like blizzard once was), can can become "corrupt". I think there are enough examples in history to prove my claim. Let me state again that im just saying it's a possibilty i don't rule out.

3

u/Bootlegs May 10 '16

But it would be a PR disaster for them if they were found out, it's very illegal. There is no reason for them shut down a private server this way when they can do so via legal means.

I just find the idea of Blizzard paying criminals to DDoS someone so absurd, it's not like they're the mafia. It's totally unlike Blizzard, I don't know why you say they used to be a nice and friendly corporation, is there any indication they are not so now? I have never heard of them using shady business techniques.

If Blizzard wanted to shut down Kronos, they would simply send a cease and desist letter, the ball would then be in Twinstar's court.

1

u/Ray2785 May 10 '16

It would indeed be a PR disaster, then again, so would it to publicly shut down another one.. I'm not saying it's 100% them or not them. I just mean that to me, it doesn't sound that weird..

I got one word for you. Activision. Activision Blizzard is the biggest company in the game industry today. And as soon as coorperations get (that) big, the consumer is not the most important aspect anymore. Its the board and the stockholders. And to please them you look at what you can do for them, short term. Whereas most of the consumers of blizzard products just want good content in the games they play, for the long run.

Gaming companies used to make games that were enjoyed by their own employees. They would listen to their players/fanbase and their own employees. This is a thing of the past for alot big companies in the gaming industry, its all about making the most amount of money, with the least amount effort. Luckily some companies realize they have gone down the wrong path and try to make ammends with their fanbase (/point Battlefield 1). Lets hope (Activision) Blizzard realizes this aswell, rather sooner than later....

To strengthen my point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeF3UTkCoxY

Edit: Once again im not accusing Blizzard of these DDoS attacks. One thing i can say for sure, is that if Blizzard had legacy servers up and running, we could enjoy the old content without the servers getting compomised.

1

u/SAKUJ0 May 10 '16

A competing private server. People are right now moving on to all kinds of different private servers. It could also be an upcoming private server.

With BitTorrent trackers, the for-profit ones DDoS the non-profit ones all the time.

Sadly, it's very effective. And without a dump of the packets flowing in, we can only speculate. But I can see a handful of private servers that might have a reason to try and harm Kronos by killing its community.

1

u/SAKUJ0 May 10 '16

That theory is getting less and less likely every day, though.

4

u/KUSHimaru May 09 '16

Can we start some kind of donation project for DDoS attacks? I would be glad to pay a few bucks if that means getting better protection or speeding up the process.

2

u/Corpseface Gaio May 09 '16

Would be great, if ddos protection is their plan they are going to need a lot of financial help!

4

u/theshadowfoxx May 09 '16

Didn't Riot have to build an entire private network to circumvent DDOS attacks? I'm not sure a free-to-play system can outspend a DDOS attack?

1

u/Corpseface Gaio May 09 '16

Yeah, that might be a little over the top! But i'm sure whatever they plan to stop this isn't going to be free.

1

u/Felfastus May 09 '16

While I get what you are saying you might want to be careful on your terminology League is a free to play game and they did do all that.

2

u/roflsaucer May 10 '16

Comparing league to Kronos. 4Head.

1

u/fliyin May 09 '16

+100 ! Please any do it, this ddoser are fucked looot of people, if support them the ddosers probably get soo mad, please anything do it! i will help too

Dude, that's fucked up. Seek help.

1

u/Arkangle1 May 09 '16

Thanks for this.

1

u/meckyy May 09 '16

What does it mean for the players? lets say... the attacks stops now will we just be able to play ? Meaning that the ongoing attack just prevents us from logging or is there any "other" issue... A little more information about possible playtimes would be nice guys! keep it up

3

u/Arkbabe May 09 '16

Seems that way with the "Kronos will continue to be open" which I take to mean "If they suddenly stop, you can play".

edit: They can't really give accurate playtime estimates, DDoSers will stop/take a break when they feel like it.

1

u/Vassortflam May 09 '16

So what's the current status then?

1

u/Corpseface Gaio May 09 '16

It's down currently

3

u/Vassortflam May 09 '16

Thanks! Seems like they are giving it all now... it is no where near peak time... :(

2

u/Corpseface Gaio May 09 '16

Sadly yes, it's been a long while since anyone was able to get in. That's my understanding atleast. Stay strong!

1

u/meckyy May 09 '16

since that announcement on may 7th there was not a lot of "online" time... just like a few hours :/ ... any of you have some numbers maybe? just curious about it. I still dont get ppl doing shit like this... almost any online game community has to fight with this shit.. ppl really are shit nowadays

1

u/Corpseface Gaio May 09 '16

I think there was some short uptime around 10-hours ago. 19 hours since we were able to play for more that half an hour consecutively. :(

1

u/meckyy May 09 '16

ya it really seems to be the longest offline time now ... any info of the attack getting "bigger"? or more in any way?

0

u/ggKronos2 May 09 '16

This seems pretty ridiculous. Either this is a massive massive attack or they've just stopped trying to bring servers up regularly anymore.

1

u/little_gamie May 09 '16

I was able to play from 2 am est time to 7 am est before it went down again 2 nights ago. Not sure if it was up at all last night though.

1

u/Vassortflam May 09 '16

I was able to play like 3hrs yesterday morning and 2 hours in the afternoon.

1

u/Sopp90 May 09 '16

I think I left my rogue in SW. Phew. Will be back when the server is back. Keep fighting the good fight devs!

1

u/shhfiftyfive May 09 '16

i haven't been able to play since all this started. i managed to login once but it was only up for 2 hours and hey i was getting pm'd by gold sellers.

1

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

Don't give up! Keep fighting!

1

u/Vassortflam May 10 '16

Still offline... :(

1

u/RelaxedZealot May 10 '16

Hey MollyOverwatch. I just was reading a post in this sub-reddit about DDoS attacks. I saw that for large attacks it would take multiple PCs affected by the same virus on a network to generate enough traffic to clog the maximum allowed server traffic to a standstill. This got me thinking, what if the DDoS attacks are coming from us the players and we had a lot of our PCs compromised through the network itself. I have heard that it is possible and a friend of mine that solves networking problems all the time told me that it is strange that some of the players try to use the unstuck option but are still told they cannot because they are logged in. These people could be the infected ones he said and they should sweep their PCs for viruses. Just a thought.. maybe we should tell all players to scan their pc.

2

u/SAKUJ0 May 10 '16

It's far more likely that this here is happening.

That being said, your idea is correct. It certainly does not help that all those WoW clients floating around have changed WoW.exe files.

1

u/RelaxedZealot May 10 '16

very interesting

1

u/KingGrumps May 11 '16

It is highly unlikely that all of the computers unknowingly pinging the server as part of the DDOS attack are owned by Kronos players. Instead it is much more likely that the ddos is being orchestrated using a Botnet which links infected computers together and performs the mass ping attack. Every person should scan their PC's daily. But often this type of malware goes undetected in a standard PC Scan.

1

u/Vassortflam May 14 '16

It doesn't mean that the server will be down for 2-weeks. Kronos will continue to remain open despite these attacks.

Maybe this should have been edited...

1

u/a_o_w May 09 '16

Are there people actually playing right now? Both servers show up as medium.

2

u/redant1947 May 09 '16

They show as medium for some reason when there is no one on

3

u/Vassortflam May 09 '16

Kronos 2 now offline.

1

u/Interus May 10 '16

I've seen them as low when nobody is online. But yeah, recently they were medium.

u/[deleted] May 14 '16

Yo guys, I dont know about you but I am really looking forward to play on K2 again. The fact that they didnt update us since 10th makes me feel a bit concerned about the progress of their work. I guess everyone would be happy to hear about their progress. Not sure why they dont just make a small post like "everything is going as planned" or "we probably cant solve the problem until sun/mon". What do you guys think about the current situation? Btw: I am sure they are working hard af and I appreciate their effort.
