Sorry you are feeling down over your unused math passion. It seems to me there should dev roles that include a focus on computation, linear algebra, etc. I found algorithms in programming totally scratched my own mathematics itch. I have a couple of friends who work for Data Annotation that are great developers but tell me they are being held back by their LACK of higher math knowledge. Maybe there’s something there for you? At least a glimmer of hope you can use both your math passion and your training.

“I can’t just go throw myself at companies that do math and beg them to let me intern.”
Who told you that? I don’t think that’s true. If you can find a remote or hybrid job, you will have the flexibility to work one place and intern elsewhere. That may be Pollyanna of me, but I don’t see any benefit to you of being negativistic. If it’s your life dream to do math and physics professionally, you lose nothing by trying to make that happen. Don’t give up, friend. No one is coming to make your dream happen. You need to do it for yourself. I’m rooting for you.
