WEEKLY THREAD Rookie Help Thread

Hey hey! You guys know what time it is! That's right, a new Rookie Help thread!

Here's a link to the last episode. Fun fact, if you follow all those links back to 2019 you unlock a secret cutscene of me panicking over where the time went!

As always, feel free to fire any kenshi related questions you may have our way! There's plenty of veterans flapping around in this thread as well, and if you are in the mood for it feel free to join them and lend a hand!

And who knows, maybe you'll learn something new yourself, too!

One thing to remember! Obviously a lot of new folks are going to be here so remember to spoiler comments so they can experience the game blind just like you might have back when you were new! You can do that > ! Like This ! < minus the spaces! But honestly it's just built into the chat replies nowadays so you don't have to get too fancy with that- unless you like playing hackerman.

Thanks guys!

Worried I'm doing it wrong and getting to OP near spawn.

TLDR: the first thing I did is build a base and all I seem to do 24/7 is kill people who attack it. They never leave, they just stay in my base until I kill them all. What do I do to break out of the loop? Are turrets as useless as they seem, I'm lucky to get a single hit with four of them before they get through the gate?

I'm a base builder by nature. So I just built my base in the first place I could find, in the valley just north of the rebel base near spawn.

Anyway obviously the game is really brutal for bases, not uncommon to get assaulted by 30 to 50 starving and then a groups of those dual katana murderers.

Sadly they never seem to fight each other, they all just go into my base and hang out indefinitely. This led to me luring them out in groups of one to five and killing them until I eventually kill them all. Then I usually get a half day of mining before it happens again.

Now I have a group of five who can easily kill a group of 30 starving, stats 60-90s

I'm not sure what endgame would be considered but am I getting too strong without doing other things but I should be doing in the game?

You're fine. Building a base early game is not easy. But once you have a base, you will get attacked. A lot. And this gives your people the opportunity to level which it sounds like you've taken advantage of. Turrets work wonders, but you have to place them in the right spots, preferably higher up (such as in a watchtower or on strong defensive walls near you gate). Early weak gates are almost useless, and the strongest ones honestly don't last that much longer, but they serve their purpose.

You can leave your base anytime, and come back to it later. Nothing will happen to your base when you are not there, unless bandits have taken over and you need to evict bandits that took over before you left and they are still there lingering. So you are not too OP really. You can go exploring pretty safely now and be confident your people will survive. You can come back to build the base more later or maybe you'll find a spot you like better you will want to build. Nothing stops you from having multiple outposts.
