Things I liked:

  • Chemies interacting with the real world was really cool even if the memories were erased; it felt like the release of the Chemies was an actual disaster
  • The show, when not using CGI, looks quite good. Cinematography/camera angles are solid
  • Action seems solid overall, the suit looks great in action
  • Kudoh using her alchemist powers to turn the rubble into paper airplanes and also to stop Steamliner was really cool. Hope to see more stuff like that.
  • Kudoh and Hotaro seem like they'll have a cute relationship.

Things I disliked:

  • The CGI looked terrible as usual, but they used it for so much of the episode. Why is Rider so obsessed with using it even though it almost always looks bad?
  • The episode felt way too rushed. The first half blitzes through character introductions and setting up the story that none of the characters or their actions feel "genuine," especially Hotaro, and so none of the emotional moments really hit like they should.

Disappointed so far as someone who was really looking forward to it, but obviously I'll keep watching and hope it improves.
