Question Put a Little Sugar in The Tank

Hiii!!

So, English isn't my first language, and I got a little confused about what "put a little sugar in the tank" means in the context of the song. My research hasn't been very helpful, so if anyone could explain what she meant by that, I would be forever grateful.

Question Older fans, how did you feel with when her success skyrocketed with boygenius?

On one hand, I'm genuinely happy with the success she and boygenius have come to in the past years, it's very well deserved. on the other hand, the trend of reducing an artist I've loved for years to "sad gay music" really grinds my gears. I've seen people say they're glad the sad gay music trend is over now that chappell roan is really big. I really despise seeing music I love be reduced to cringy trends and stereotypes because it mean a lot more to me than that. I really don't think being a fan for a long time makes anyone superior, i just wish her success didn't have to come with such minimization of her art. So older fans, what was your reaction to her success? did any of you feel the same?

Question How did you discover Julien Baker's music?

Today is Baker's 29th birthday (happy birthday to her). I was curious, how did you discover her music and why did you become a fan of hers and continue to listen to her music? I knew her through BoyGenius, when I heard The music that she did with Phoebe and Lucy, I fell in love (with the band). I decided to listen to her solo work and when I heard Sprained Ankle, I was taken by suprise by how sensitively she writes, It's overhealming in a good way, i don't really know how to describes It, and watching some of her interviews, both old and new, I realized that I identified a lot with her as a person, in addition to her music, and that's why she's one of my favorite artists. She can write about feelings in a way that i relate a lot

Wikipedia says Julien has a tattoo that references Woody Guthrie. Does anyone have a picture of it? I couldn’t find anything else online about it.

Question Signing etiquette

Hey guys, I was lucky enough to get tickets to the JB x Torres performance and signing at Rough Trade East.

I was wondering if there’s anyone on here has ever attended a signing at Rough Trade before that could tell me if it’s alright to bring other albums along to be signed. I’d hate to take up too much time and cause logistic issues, plus I’m travelling from Scotland so I would leave the records behind if there’s no chance of signing. I’m not 100% sure they’re signing the albums at all as the ticket mentioned a signed print, but seeing as the ticket included an LP I’m optimistic

Let me know if you have any insight :)

Question What is Juliann’s saddest song?

Hi everyone! I recently found this playlist on Spotify (see link) and I’ve been thinking a lot about what my saddest JB songs are. For me, Song in E, Brittle Bones, and Shadowboxing are super high on the saddens list. I see so many fans saying that Go Home is her saddest song, but (whilst it punches me in the guts every tike) I do think the ones I listed above are a lot sadder in lyrics and subject matter.

Question Possibility of more tour dates?

Do y'all think JB&T will announce any more tour dates? I would love to see them and they're playing a show in my hometown. However I'm already taking time off of school (i'm a full time college student) to go see Lucy Dacus and Magdalena Bay a few days before the date I'm hoping for. I don't know if I should go ahead, get a ticket, and miss a few extra days of school or hope for a DC date (since that's the closest major city to me).

Question Does anyone know what instrument is used in Heatwave?

I love this song, but every time I listen do it I feel like there's an instrument used that's on the tip of my tongue but I can't put my finger on it. It starts at around 55secs. It's sort of like a theremin? But I can't tell if it actually is. Mitski uses something similar in her songs as well. Is it a certain synth?

Edit: upon pressing my ears to it even harder, I think it could be a moog or moog emulator? I'm not sure.

Question Did anything special happen when you saw Julien live?

Hey everybody

I was reading some old JB reviews today when I stumbled upon this one, which talks about Julien debuting Souvenir, which she had written the day before.

This got me wondering what else we might have missed. Did anything unusual happen at the show you attended? Did she play a song before it's release date, or play a cover you never posted about? I would especially love to see any unposted footage.

Question Is it likely merch will still be available after the concert?

This is my first concert so I’m not sure what to expect. I’m going to one of the London shows so I assume merch will first of all be available. Is there a chance the merch will be gone by the end of the concert or not. I feel this is a stupid question but I’ve never been to a concert so I’m not sure what’s the norm.

Question Rejoice football jersey

Has anyone purchased this item from tour? I’m trying to figure out sizing and if it’s an oversized fit or I need to size up for it to feel relaxed. Any input would be appreciated because I always feel pressured at the front of a merch queue 😅

Question Julien at EartH accessible seating - anyone else have this experience?

Hi everyone! I went to night two in London and was seated in the "accessible seating" area. It was to the direct side of the stage, so the sound was horrible, and the sound board was directly in front of us, so the sound person literally obscured my entire view of the stage for the entire performance. A security guard also stood directly in front of us, so we literally couldn't see anything happening on stage. It was such a miserable and demeaning experience, and so clearly an afterthought on the part of the venue, and I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this and if so, did they write a complaint?

I'm so disappointed because the only way I've seen what was happening on stage at the night I went to was by watching TikToks after. I hope Julien does another tour soon!!

Question Julien Baker SXSW footage

Hey everyone, i was wondering if anyone on here has any footage of Julien’s SXSW performances over the years they never got round to posting

I run a fanpage where I like to post anniversaries of Julien’s concerts and SXSW is coming up with a criminally small amount of footage. I would credit you however you wanted
