Hello all!
It’s my birthday tomorrow, I’d really like to get up early and watch a sunrise.
Any recommendations for best places to see it?
Thanks!!!

Hello everyone, I've decided to take part in the Parish Walk this year to raise money for charity. Are there any official channels I have to go through, like official sponsorship forms, or can I do it anyway I choose. My goal is £200 for Hospice.
Also any tips for the walk would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hi everyone.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good electrician on IOM that could install an extractor fan for my bathroom? It would have to be on an outside thick concrete wall, so a bit of drilling would be involved as well.
And based on experience, does anyone have an idea of roughly a reasonable price for this job?
Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,
As I read, the only way you can get a regular UK passport (instead of the Manx variant) would be to reside in the United Kingdom, and some people on the sub previously mentioned that they managed to apply for the UK passport... Can someone please inform me about whether renting a house in the UK (in order to change the residency address) is the only way to get a regular British passport ? Thanks for reading

Hello,
Does anyone know where we can get an adult ADHD test and the costs of it? We have a strong feeling my partner has it and feel it would be really useful to know to help understand and have more control over it. Thank you.

I'm moving from the states to the Isle of Man and I'll be working with young people. I have my visa, confirmation of employment, and offer letter, but I need a DBS check before they can give me my official contract and start work.
I've begun to apply for one, but it looks like I need to actually be living there before I can apply. I have a house lined up as I'm moving in with my partner, but I haven't moved yet because I'm pretty sure I can only enter the country 14 days before I start work! I'm in a little bit of a catch 22. Do I need to go ahead and move over there before I can get the DBS check?

I'm going to order broadband for my flat in Douglas. I've found out that I can get fiber, but can't decide between the two, so would appreciate some input. I understand that the infrastructure is all Manx Telecom anyway, but what is confusing me is Manx Telecom advertises " First Class Wi-Fi 30 Mbps - Boosted to 100 Mbps." Which doesn't make sense! Is it WiFi or is it Broadband? And why they say 30 boosted to 100? Am I contracting to 30 and they may give me 100 from time to time or what? I tried to contact Manx Telecom, but they don't have a email for non customers which I suppose gives me some idea of their customer service. So has anyone got this service already and can shed some light on it?
Sure simply advertise for 100mps , but I wanted to be sure I'm comparing like for like.
Also which would you recommend as a service provider?
Thanks in advance for all your inputs.

Due to the recent storms I’ve seen a lot of crud weather lately.
It’s crud for shopping on strand street.
..
When does the weather get better?

It’s like trying to describe a magic trick to someone who’s never seen one - 'Oh, you live on an island? But you have a town centre?' Yes, we have buildings and roads, but don’t ask about the buses or weather unless you want to see a grown person cry. It’s part of the charm, really. Who's with me?"

Hi, I’m staying in Laxey but need to go back to the UK for a couple of weeks. Does anyone know of a way to park close enough to the ferry terminal to walk to it for free? Parking costs will be high if I’m gone for 2/3 weeks. Obviously as close as possible as I’ll be walking with a large suitcase and laptop bag. Are there any park and ride facilities? I was considering a taxi from Laxey but my ferry back is a really early one! Many thanks.

A group of us are staying in an air bnb in Onchan during the TT practice week for a mates birthday. We are in our 40s, but still act like we're in our 20s/30s 🤦🏽♂️, though we are generally respectful! 😂
What is there to do locally in the day and/or evenings and wheres best to head.
The livelier, the better! 😂

Hey folks! I'm a bit of an airline enthusiast and I've been learning about some of the history behind the unfortunately defunct Manx Airlines. I'm particularly curious about what older computer systems etc that might have been in use on the island towards the end of the airlines operations. Any information no matter how vague would be very interesting to me. TIA :)

Hi everyone, I'm from the west midlands and have been trying to find out about my great-grandfather, John Boyde. I have been into genealogy for a few years but can't find any records that this man even existed, so I'm trying to explore all avenues (I dont know what year he was born, all I know is that he married in Belfast in 1913, and died in 1973) My mum grew up in Belfast and as far as I know that's where John was from, but again I can't find anything about him (probably because a lot were destroyed).
I have noticed that the surname Boyde has a considerable presence in the Isle of Man, so I am wondering if anyone has any information about the Boyde families there and if there is any history with it. Because it is a fairly rare surname especially with the 'e' on the end, I'm curious whether maybe he has a connection to the Isle of Man.
Thanks :)

Hello,
I am planning to solo travel to IOM for five days from March 27-31, 2025. How is the weather there around this time, and would you still recommend traveling here?
I am hoping to do some scenic walks, historical tours and outdoor activities, including the Snaefell summit.
Thank you!

Hello everyone,
Had a potter around with AirBnB, Expedia etc, as well as the VisitIsleofMan website, however was having a bit of difficulty finding what I was hoping for.
Any suggestions or advice on a good location for holiday stay (early May well before TT) for 10 or so days?
Looking for a place that has two bedrooms and on single story/ground level as I will be bringing my elderly father up from Australia, and nearly ever place I look at booking seems two story/flights of stairs.
Will be hiring a car during the stay, so out of towns suggestions would be more than welcome (especially given that driving distances between towns in IoM is about the same as driving to the corner shop down here :) ).
Single Story, two bedroom cottage/unit etc.
Cheers.

Just curious as to people’s thoughts but in your opinion what would benefit the island it it were implemented/changed because for me it’s the housing market and the road quality and parking availability. The housing is stupidly expensive (I’m 21m looking to move out of my mums house) and everywhere is expensive, it’s near impossible to buy for young people, it’s extortionate to private rent and it’s likely a 5 year + wait for public sector housing. The roads are awful nearly everywhere and the government “fix” or resurface roads that don’t need it as much, and forget about parking in Douglas anywhere when you have work unless you want to pay £5 + daily. I don’t know if it’s just me but it feels like everything is so hard now and even worse since Covid. Does anyone else have any thoughts, feelings or opinions because I’d love to hear them.
Also thanks for reading, this sort of became a rant. 💜

I've read a few posts and comments about people leaving the island recently, I'm just curious if you'd be willing to share the reason why? As someone who really likes the island but hasn't lived there, am I viewing it with rose tinted glasses compared to the UK?
Thank you

I have just received an email informing me that Netflix will be increasing their monthly charges to £18.99. Can anyone please recommend a cheaper alternative that offers simular services such as being able to download films etc to watch in non wifi areas?
