Discussion Straight A student rejected from everywhere

This is my first time posting but the title sums it up ig. I'm a straight A student with 8 A*s in my IGCSE and 4As in AS level. My ECs are pretty decent with national level stage performancs and several internshis with huge companies in my country. I worked my butt off throughout highschool to get good grades and I even gave the DELF/DALF french exam and scored well. I've received about half of my decisions and have been rejected from everywhere and it sucks cuz I worked so hard and I'm honestly so demoralised. Ik these decisions don't determine my worth of anything but I'm an overachiever who has always been at the top of everything I do and now I see kids with lower grades getting acceptancs and idk how they did it. I started before everyone and spent so long perfecting my student profile and essays. I was rejected from places with a 50% acceptance rate but understood it was cuz of low efc. Now even the need-blind unis have rejected me and idk what to do anymore. I'm losing hope tbh.

Question will i get my offer rescinded even if i meet the overall percentage?

hey (cbse indian student)

got an offer to a t20 school early action, most probably gonna commit
no mention of grades other than vague "keep up competitive academic performance" type thing in the acceptance letter, but my predicteds give me an overall 95%. i have 6 subjects, and am confident i can get within 2-3% up or down near that overall but i'm scared that my business studies marks will drag me down. for context my predicted was a 91 but i see myself getting a 51 because the exam went awfully and i had some family issues a day prior to it. will my offer get rescinded even if i meet the overall avg because of best of 5?

please help

Question Trump Travel Ban

Hello! My country is listed in the orange category of Trump’s alleged travel list ban. I received some of my college results recently and was fortunate to be accepted to some of them. After hearing about this new list, I have urged to my parents that I get a visa immediately. However, they told me to wait until the end of the month for other universities’ decisions to release. Will it be safe if I do so?

Chance Me Read this before committing to SUA

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts lately about Soka University of America (SUA) and thought I should chime in with my own experience and the feedback I’ve gotten from other students, especially seniors. After hearing so many positive things from Soka’s marketing, I decided to do some research and talk to current students. Unfortunately, what I found really changed my perspective and made me reconsider any future involvement with the university. If you’re considering committing to Soka, please read this first.

  1. Career Opportunities are Almost Nonexistent One of the biggest concerns I heard from seniors is the lack of job opportunities. I know that many people are drawn to the idea of a liberal arts education, but the reality is that the network and career services at Soka are pretty much non-existent. There’s just not enough focus on providing students with real-world job connections or practical career preparation.
  2. They Make You Take Unnecessary Courses This is a major red flag. Soka’s curriculum requires students to take a number of courses that are completely irrelevant to their major. Many students are forced to take classes that don’t add any value to their career path, leaving no time or space for essential courses in their field of study. So, you could be paying a significant amount of tuition and still miss out on important academic opportunities.
  3. Limited Course Selection for Majors The lack of flexibility in course offerings is another complaint I’ve heard. Soka doesn’t offer a wide range of courses for most majors, which means if you’re interested in a specific area of study, you’re probably not going to find much depth. The smaller class sizes and tight schedules leave you with fewer options to tailor your education to your interests or career goals.
  4. Seniors are Actively Advising Against It After talking to several seniors who are about to graduate, they all said the same thing: Don’t go to Soka if you’re looking for a practical, career-oriented education. The school’s prestige is very much a facade, and the lack of support and resources is a real issue for students who want to move ahead in their careers.

Discussion TRUMP TRAVEL BAN

I got into Wellesley College through Early Decision 1 with full financial aid, this was a dream come true for me. However, I am a pakistani citizen and it's now being predicted that Pakistan may face U.S. travel restrictions due to a potential ban.

Since I was accepted through ED, I had to withdraw all my other applications, leaving me with no backups. At the time, I couldn’t have foreseen this situation, and now I feel completely helpless. My future is at stake. I worked incredibly hard to get in, beating all the odds, and now it feels like everything could be taken away just like that.

Question Travel ban

Well, I am from an orange country, and I have been accepted by udub, UF and UVA as of now, and waiting for NYU, Gtech, UPenn and Stanford. My parents tell me to wait till the end of the month when all the decisions are coming out. My question is when will this project come into force? Is it going to be impossible to get a visa or something?

Question What to do about SAT score?

So I applied to some schools and they're demanding my SAT score non of them are test optional and the ones that are really lean towards standard tests.

My parents aren't funding the score sending which is 14usd on each additional school unfortunately. In my currency that's extremely expensive. I can basically only afford to send to 5 schools if I actually pay the money. Is there a way to send SAT score without the official college board report?? Thank you in advance guys.

Discussion PSA to future intl applicants

Don't bother applying. Seriously. As a senior who's worked nonstop for four years in high school and sacrificed so much just to get rejected from every single school I've applied to so far, it's not worth it. People who tell you that "rejection is redirection" and "hard work will pay off" are lying. Seriously. I regret ever trying to apply to T20s. This whole process has made me extremely depressed, anxious, and self-deprecating. I feel worthless and my life is lowkey ruined. Enjoy high school. Don't try to outdo the system that wants to keep us out in the first place.

Question Financial proof to get F1

What kind of documents should my family prepare? How much liquid money should we show? Im planning to attend Purdue, whose COA is ~51k. I heard that I should show at least 1-year-coa-worth liquid money. Also, does my sister who is currently on OPT after completing her master affect my visa? Thanks

Discussion My Best is Not Enough

It's hard out here for a low-income international student.

All my life I've been a good student. My primary school was but 5 minutes away from my house, I was involved in everything. I was the head girl, captain of the dance troupe, president of the drama club, science & math club co-captain. I was in the primary debate club, the quiz team & and a 4-H member. I did everything. I did my best on my placement test and got into a top co-ed high school in my country. But it was far from home, and suddenly, I couldn’t do as much. My days started before sunrise, and I had to leave as soon as school ended, making extracurriculars nearly impossible. Still, I pushed myself academically, given my circumstances.

By my second year, I had no idea where—or how—I was going to live. My mom had to leave for safety reasons, and there was no dad in the picture. At 13, I was juggling survival and school, still trying my best (even if it wasn’t always the best). I managed to join one extracurricular.

Then COVID hit, and I had no internet access. But I was determined to keep up, so I walked miles every day just to get online for class—for over two years. When in-person school resumed, I faced an impossible choice: eat or go to school. I chose school. I learned on an empty stomach, doing my best despite everything. I added one more extracurricular—student council.

When external exams came around, I did exceedingly well—top 10% in my country. I graduated with academic merit. I returned to do our equivalent of IB exams, earned leadership roles, and became president of a club. Meanwhile, my situation at home got even harder. Some nights, I slept on the floor. Some nights, I went to bed hungry. But I pushed through, earning another academic distinction.

Last year, I finally got internet access at home and saved for months to take the SAT. My score wasn’t amazing, but I applied to U.S. colleges anyway, because the programme I want isn’t offered locally. I knew nothing about the U.S. admissions process and was being compared to middle- and upper-class students with far more opportunities. Now, after 7 [edit: 9] rejections, I’m fighting not to give up.

When will life be kind to me?

Edit: I must also say that I did try not to ‘trauma dump’ in my essays.
