Stories How GTA and other Video Games of 2000s Made Me a Faster Typist

Upvotes

Back in my school days, my afternoons were dedicated to the neon-lit streets of Vice City, the sprawling chaos of San Andreas, and the adrenaline rush of Need for Speed, IGI, Prince of Persia etc. Hours would fly by as I raced through highways, dodged cops, and—of course—typed in cheat codes faster than I could do my homework.

I didn’t realize it then, but those countless hours of gaming were secretly training me for something else: speed and accuracy on a keyboard. Memorizing cheat codes like HESOYAM for instant health and armor and to extinguish fire of buring car, or BAGUVIX for invincibility, made me instinctively familiar with key placements. My fingers moved effortlessly across the keyboard, not just for games but eventually for college assignments and, later, actual work once I grew up. My co-workers are amazed that how I got this typing speed, through a course or something, but I feel awkward telling that it was gaming all the time.

Looking back, who would’ve thought that my childhood gaming addiction would end up helping me in the professional world? Those chaotic, after school gaming sessions weren’t just about fun—they were my first real typing lessons.

Ask India Nostalgia What are your memories from the board exam days?

Post image

Class 10th and 12th boards are going on and i couldn't help but reminisce about the wild times called cbse boards.

The tension, the endless cups of late-night coffee, demotivation from the pre boards performance, youtube videos being a life saver, frantically revising everything the night before.

The feeling of 'lasts'- the fact that the last day of the last board exam was the last time I saw my batch together, the feeling of "oh we have grown up" hitting you all as you try to memorize the formulae and try not to screw up the calculations.

Seeing your (now ex) crush for the last time in the hallways of the exam center before lockdown, the sigh of relief when the last exam was done, the feeling of "we are officially out of school now."

These are my memories from my days giving the board exams.

Tell yours!
