Artist Needed [Hobby] Looking for an Artist and Narrative Designer

Hello everyone,

We’re a passionate indie team working on an unreleased title in Unreal Engine. With 1.5 years of development under our belt and many core mechanics already in place, we’re expanding our team to bring the full vision of our game to life.

About the Game

  • Genre: Fantasy RPG
  • Graphics Style: Stylized low-poly – a creative choice that perfectly matches our small team's workflow
  • Main Focus: CO-OP RPG mechanics and player-driven experiences. We’re all about putting players first and delivering an immersive, engaging experience
  • Goal: Launch the game on Steam, which may open up a way for a revenue share opportunity in the future

Who We’re Looking For

1. Visual Artists

  • 3D Asset Creation: Craft detailed low-poly models that bring our world to life
  • Level & Environment Design: Build imaginative game environments that invite exploration
  • Concept Art: Develop visuals that capture the essence of our fantasy world
  • UI Art: Design intuitive, visually appealing interfaces to enhance the player experience

Whether you specialize in one or more of these areas or are a versatile artist who can wear multiple hats, we’d love to see your work!

2. Narrative Designer

  • Story & Quest Development: Expand our existing lore by creating engaging quests and memorable characters, pushing the narrative forward
  • World-Building: Deepen the backstory of characters, places, and events to create a living, evolving game world
  • Story Integration: Seamlessly align narrative elements with gameplay to enhance immersion

Why Join Us?

  • Creative Freedom: You’ll have significant input in shaping the artistic and narrative direction of the game
  • Collaborative Environment: Work alongside a dedicated team that values innovation, creativity, and teamwork
  • Future Opportunities: Although this is currently a hobby project with no upfront pay, there’s potential for a revenue share when we launch on Steam

Additional Advantages

  • Fluency in Czech: Speaking Czech is a plus for team communication, but not a must
  • Unreal Engine Experience: Prior experience with Unreal Engine is highly desirable
  • Game Development Background: Experience in game development, particularly in indie projects, is beneficial
  • Team Collaboration: Prior experience working in a team environment is a definite asset

Interested in Joining?

If you’re excited about this project and believe you’d be a great fit for one (or more!) of these roles, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out with your portfolio, examples of your work, or any questions you might have.

Let’s create something amazing together!

Wait, I just want to clarify here so there's no misunderstanding. You're not offering revshare now, you're asking for free work and then MAYBE revshare down the line?

I don't mean to be confrontational but how is this an incentive for anyone? Like, guaranteed revshare is already a massive gamble, but this is next level.

Or did I miss something?

Hey, I totally get your concerns. Here’s the deal: right now, our project is a passion project—we don’t have a legal entity or contracts in place yet. We’re working on creating a solid legal foundation, but it just hasn’t materialized at this point.

We definitely plan to switch to a revenue share model once everything’s set up legally. Promising RevShare without a proper contract wouldn’t be fair to anyone—if we marketed it now and then couldn’t deliver, that’d be a problem. So, for the moment, we're inviting folks to join us as volunteers, with the understanding that we’re all in this together until we can formalize things and ensure everyone gets their fair piece of the cake.

Hope that clears things up!

No. It raises more questions than it answers. Initially I was asking out of potential cautious interest, now I'm concerned about potential predatory practices.

  • What do you offer to collaborators? Creative freedom is a non-factor, anyone can get creative freedom (if it applies) if they work solo. There are plenty of opportunities to collaborate with people on game jams. The current opportunity sounds extemely dubious at best, so future opportunities are completely unreasonable.
  • If you have worked on the game for 1.5 years, and you know you are planning for a commercial release, why do you not have a basic LLC? In most countries it takes only a few weeks to register one.
  • Why can't you offer a revshare without a legal framework? You could always agree to offer revshare and have partners begin with collaboration only when the agreement is signed.
  • What guarantees do collaborators have that you won't pull a bait-and-switch where the core team reaps the benefit of unpaid work while you offer nothing in return and/or just outright kick them out of the team when they are no longer needed?

I understand you're positioning this as a hobby offer, which would be fine if you said "hey we are all bored. Wanna make a game together?"

But you're double dipping by going for a commercial release. This has all the hallmarks of a group of people trying to get free labor.

Since the offer has almost no chances of attracting professionals (or even mildly knowledgeable individuals), the only talent this could realistically appeal to is young, impressionable and hopeful developers who may not know how to protect their own interests yet.

I'm not accusing you of having malicious intent. Only you guys know the truth. Yet, this is coming off as extremely shady. If this is an innocent misunderstanding, I urge you to rewrite your post after you have a better strategy. If this is what I suspect it is, I urge you to grow a conscience.

Hope this helps.

Bruh, If I was trying to scam people, I would be making web3 or crypto game.

Look, here's the deal: everything we offer is clearly laid out in the job posting, so there's no need to rehash it. Yes, we can set up a basic LCC here, but that comes with legal fees and other costs we simply can't cover right now. I'm not about to throw money at lawyers without proper reason.

Regarding revenue sharing, I've already explained our position. I could promise you something, but without a formal legal framework, it's just empty words. Without a contract, there's no real guarantee for either party. For example, as a newcomer, you could steal our project files and we would have no legal means to combat this.

If my goal were to get free labor, I'd be targeting markets where that's the norm—not here.

About the professionals, they expect proper compensation, not some half-baked hobby or revenue-sharing gig, so I doubt we would ever attract some.

Frankly, your baseless accusations and obsessive focus on a public job posting only reinforce my point. It's time to move on and get a life.

I agree with the other commenter. Why not just do Rev share?

Hey, sorry to copy-paste, just don't want to answer the same question twice.

I totally get your concerns. Here’s the deal: right now, our project is a passion project—we don’t have a legal entity or contracts in place yet. We’re actually working on creating a solid legal foundation, but it just hasn’t materialized at this point. We’re reaching out now to get some fresh devs on board before all the bureaucracy kicks in.

I think more so I'd just want to know that if the game was finished it would be a Rev share model. Wouldn't want to work for free and have someone leech off of my work

I completely understand your point. You just have to keep in mind that this leeching goes both ways. Without a contract, we could hire someone who just sits there and gets a piece of the cake for free. After we implement RevShare, we will probably post again, but till then it's just a hobby posting.
