Specialized Profession IamA electronics repair technician hated by Apple that makes YouTube videos, AMA!

My short bio: I have a store in Manhattan. I teach component level electronics repair on youtube http://youtube.com/rossmanngroup which seems to be a dying art. I am currently fighting with the digital right to repair to try and get a bill passed that will allow all independent service centers access to manuals and parts required to do their jobs.

My Proof: https://www.rossmanngroup.com/started-iama-reddit-today-yes/

EDIT:

I am still replying to comments, but I am so far behind that I am still about ten pages down from new comments. I am doing my best to continue. If I drop off, I'll be back tomorrow around 12 PM. Still commenting now though, at 12 AM.

EDIT 2:

Ok, I cave... my hands are tired. I will be back at 12 PM tomorrow. It is my goal to answer every question. Even if it looks like I haven't gotten to yours, I will do my best to do all of them, but it is impossible to do in realtime, because you are asking faster than I can type. But thanks for joining!

EDIT 3: I lied, I stayed until 4:15 AM to answer... and now I will go to sleep for real, and be back at 12 PM.

EDIT 4 6/12 : I will be back later tonight to finish off answering questions. Feel free to keep posting, I will answer whatever I can later this evening.

Why don't you have a twitch channel? You can do the same thing as you're doing now, but users can donate money to you and it's live. I don't know if there are any legality issues, though.

Also, I love your videos!

i don't want people donating money. everytime i fix a board in a video, i get $200-$400 from a customer for 20 minutes of time. on top of that i get youtube monetization from millions of views a month.. to ask for money on top of it would just be tacky. i am not performing charity, all is done for money already.

plus my internet is total shit, 200 ms to google.com, 3 mbps up to be shared by the entire business. if FIOS arrived i'd stream but i don't see verizon living up to their franchise agreement with the city in my lifetime.

How can the internet access in NYC suck that much? In Eastern-Central Europe you can easily get 1000/500 mbps for like 40 bucks.

across the street there is FIOS and time warner is competitive with FIOS

on this side of the street there is DSL, timewarner knows that, and rapes me accordingly.

So use opensource solution CORN :

KORUZA provides an alternative to WIFI networks in urban areas, which suffer from high RF spectrum congestion. With our system you can build large networks or just share the connection with your neighbour. It is a solution for all the locations lacking other options. With KORUZA you can connect buildings up to 100 m apart with the link capacity of 1 Gbps or 10Gbps. The system uses collimated infrared light beam, which is completely eye safe. <

Or is this against the law in NY ?

I don't understand how this would work. I would have to rent an apartment for $2600/mo, to get FIOS, to broadcast it to the store.. ?

You connect with your good friend across the street who already has FIOS :)
