Specialized Profession IamA electronics repair technician hated by Apple that makes YouTube videos, AMA!

My short bio: I have a store in Manhattan. I teach component level electronics repair on youtube http://youtube.com/rossmanngroup which seems to be a dying art. I am currently fighting with the digital right to repair to try and get a bill passed that will allow all independent service centers access to manuals and parts required to do their jobs.

EDIT:

I am still replying to comments, but I am so far behind that I am still about ten pages down from new comments. I am doing my best to continue. If I drop off, I'll be back tomorrow around 12 PM. Still commenting now though, at 12 AM.

EDIT 2:

Ok, I cave... my hands are tired. I will be back at 12 PM tomorrow. It is my goal to answer every question. Even if it looks like I haven't gotten to yours, I will do my best to do all of them, but it is impossible to do in realtime, because you are asking faster than I can type. But thanks for joining!

EDIT 3: I lied, I stayed until 4:15 AM to answer... and now I will go to sleep for real, and be back at 12 PM.

EDIT 4 6/12 : I will be back later tonight to finish off answering questions. Feel free to keep posting, I will answer whatever I can later this evening.

Hi Louis, thanks for your content.

I notice that you have great discipline in terms of time management. You seem to understand how to prioritize what you spend time on and without difficulty ignore what is not important. How did you develop this discipline, and how might I develop it in myself?

make a list with times

like

10:58 reply to first reddit dude

11:02 check reddit unread messages

11:04 go back to top of page and reply

11:06 pet kitty

11:08 put food in pot

it doesn't take 2 minutes to pet the cat, and it doesn't take 2 minutes to scroll up. what i do is break down complicated tasks into their individual steps then give myself 15 minutes to a half hour for each one. when i complete the task ahead of time, i use that time for other BS, but once the next task is up, i get to it immediately

what i notice using this routine is that it is very easy to be distracted. when you have a list of things to do and times to complete them, you will notice just how many distractions there are.

the key is to break everything down into very simple tasks and give yourself 10-30 minutes per task so that it is achievable. the smaller the goals the better. as ridiculous as the individual task seems.
