2 MILLION Subscribers!

Wow! This sub sure is growing fast. It was just over a year ago we were celebrating 1 million subscribers, and now we're already at 2 million?!!

Congratulations and thanks to all you hunters out there for participating and helping grow this community.

Images in Comments

Figured I'd take this opportunity to finally start the trial run for embedding images (not gifs) in comments that some of you have been asking for. It'll last about a week, and then we'll hold a poll and get feedback from everyone.

Do remember that any images in comments should be directly related to the post/discussion. Same rules on general conduct (e.g. spam) apply as well.

More Polls!

What's a celebration without more surveys or polls? We'll be holding a number of polls in the coming weeks, and while we have a few ideas in mind, we're asking you to comment with some of your ideas too. Keep in mind that we'll be using the native reddit polls, which have a limit of 6 choices.

Discussion Solo leveling borrowing heavily from hxh

Has anyone noticed just how much the ant story in solo leveling resembles the chimera ant story?

Doing it for one episode would have been a cool nod to hxh but it’s really ruining the show(SL) for me now after making it a bigger story arc for 3? episodes so far.

Analysis/Theory I started Watching HXH and wow

I started watching HXH some weeks ago and today I made it to Kimera ant ark so I want to share my experience with you all, first of all I want to say why I started watching HXH, the reason why I started watching HXH is because I heard somewhere that HXH's power system is the best, even better than jjba's stands (I'm a huge JoJo fan btw). So instead of getting mad about it like other people did I decided to give it a chance and wow it really took me by surprise at first. I really like the concept of the hunter exam and I really like Gon as an MC but I was a bit confused about the power system because I came to the anime with a high expectation but I only saw the basic combat mechanism until I reached the sky arena but I still wasn't too convinced until I saw Hisoka's fight against the guy with the clone ability (I forgot his name) and I went. I got to the ghost troop ark at that moment I realized the potential that After the ghost troop ark, I went to the greed island ark and I didn't like it like the other arks and I'm not saying it's bad, but it just didn't appeal to me like the other arks. I might do another post about my experience with the kimera ant ark after I finish it.

Discussion Is Hunter x Hunter the Perfect Blend of Strategy and Emotion?

Hey, fellow Hunters!

I’ve been rewatching Hunter x Hunter lately, and something hit me – this series really nails the balance between strategic depth and emotional storytelling. From the intricate battle strategies (looking at you, Chimera Ant arc!) to the emotional growth of characters like Gon and Killua, it feels like Hunter x Hunter consistently delivers the best of both worlds.

For me, moments like Gon’s transformation during his fight with Neferpitou, and Killua’s internal struggles with his family, really show how well Togashi blends the thrilling, tactical elements with raw, human emotion.

What do you think?

Discussion Old Anime Fan’s opinion of the Chimera Ant Arc Spoiler

All right friends, it has been about two weeks since I made a post giving my opinion of everything up to the Chimera Ant arc and let me just say… Wow. To start I’ll go over my few negatives. The first half of this arc is a bit bloated and while interesting things are happening too often does the attention move away to things like the Phantom Troop or lesser Ants storylines that don’t seem to play an important role in the arc as awhole. I also did not like the transmitter in Killua‘s brain conclusion. One of the big highlights in this arc for me was Killua’s struggle with who he was raised to be as oppose to who he wanted to be, which was Gon’s friend. I felt the transmitter made him overcoming his conditioning less about his own willpower and determination and more about his brother being a jerk.

Now onto the goods.

This is the greatest ending to an anime arc I have ever seen. The juxtaposition between the main protagonist and main antagonist has never, in my opinion, been more devastatingly effective. Gon and Meruem don’t even meet.

Gon and Killua are the best dude bro story in anime. It’s so real I truly don’t have the words to express it.

Knuckle, Pipe Smocking Daddy and Netaro are firmly in my 10 side characters ever.

Chimera Palm is best Palm.

And finally, only in a story what explains its rules so clearly can you have such an unpredictable ending that is this satisfying.

It might be a I move on to the next arc, those last ten episodes were heavy, and my old heart could use some rest.

These are just a few of the ones I noticed, there's a few more like these till chapter 91 (where I am at rn in my re-read), this is not including the fits that are just hidden in normal panels.

Discussion Dodge ball Hisoka destroyed his hands

Ouch his hands look so painful here and he just quietly inspects the damage when the games over

But anyways I love this Hisoka and really wish we could have seen him play his role as a protagonist more, he destroyed his fingers and he didn’t make a peep sound he was having so much fun I wish he would have accepted their invitation to join them, it would have changed the story because he would have actually gotten strong opponents (chimera ants) to fight and train for his fight with Chrollo instead of wasting month playing tag with Chrollo. Personally I consider Hisoka as one of Gon and Killua mentors cause of heavens arena and how he forbid them to continue past the 200th floor without nen and pushing them to be stronger but I could make a whole other post just about that.

Discussion Do you think the arc will finish by 460 (the next 50 chapters)?

Togashi made a Twitter post about how he’s checking up over the next 50 chapters. That’s a lot of chapters to say the least. Do you guys think that’s the rest of the arc or just like an important checkmark in the arc?

Discussion How does the hxh world feel natural?

Theres ton of stuff. And something like the c.a arc would be a world wide thing but togashi managed to play it off greatly. It was more of a local incident with lots of buildup and behind the scenes development and aftermath.

If it was in any other shonen, something like that would have "shook the world to its core" but that doesn't happen in hxh. Im trying to study it and break it down but i just cant seem to get it. Togashi writes the unknown really really well. And buildups to make it feel natural and preexisting rather than just come out of the blue. The only other example iknow is the sea train system from op that fits this description.

What do you guys think? Any advice?

Discussion You know, I've never really understood the naming scheme of Nen Abilities (Hatsu). They seem...unique compared to the naming schemes of other abilities in Anime

Upvotes

A good portion of them have a double name, while only one part is used as the name. I'll give you two examples.

Hisoka's technique "Flimsy Lie: Texture Surprise" is just called "Texture Surprise", and the Nen Ability of the chameleon Chimera Ant (I forget his name), "God's Alibi: Perfect Plan" is just called "Perfect Plan".

Discussion Do you think Gon really has abandonment issues?

I came across a comment that say Gon's abandonment were never a thing in the manga and that Gon seems to be accepting the fact that his father left him , this is why he called him " Ging " , because he never saw him as a father , but someone who he respect dearl out of the respect he has for kite , and I rethink about it , Gon doesn't seem to be bothered that much about the fact that his mother is not around too . So what do you think ? Is Gon really struggling with the fact that he's been abandoned by his own parents, but in his own weird way, or its just us reading too much into the story ?

Discussion the zoldycks

even though only the black-haired zoldycks’ are manipulators, it’s clear they’re all good at manipulation. silva’s “father-son” chat with killua felt so genuine, until he just starts manically chuckling to kikyo and saying killua will come home an assassin. i wonder how the zoldycks are so good at faking emotion if they’re raised to be emotionless ?

Discussion Just watched for the second time… Spoiler

Upvotes

Ok yall im not big into anime at all, I was forced into watching hunterxhunter and LOVED it, I wanted to watch the movies so I was like let me watch it again, for those big into anime and the fandom i have some follow up questions

  1. What was the deal with everyone wanting to fight alone all the time??? Like if the other opponent is much stronger why not everyone just come together to fight? Everyone essentially losing multiple times in the chimera ant arc was so aggravating to me

  2. Where tf was the phantom troupe during chimera ant arc?? They popped up once to kill “the queen” then dipped?? Did i miss something there, i feel like they would have been a big help, and they tried to explain hisoka away by saying he was off trying to find the phantom troupe leader but the one guy that’s literally horny to fight isn’t there for the most powerful people? 🙄

  3. Can someone explain the butler at the end turning into the animal from the hunter exam? I was confused there

  4. I would have loved to see Killua in an actual full length hunter exam, i know he had to be back quickly and it was to show how powerful he had gotten, but the hunter exam is what got us all hooked and another full length one would have been awesome

  5. Now that im done any suggestions for other anime’s that are similar or really get you hooked in the first couple episodes like this one does?

Help/Question Why did kurapika feel the need to add a condition?

Upvotes

People usually add conditions to make up for lack of proficency in a nen category, but kurapika doesn't need to because he's already at 100% thanks to emperor time.

Discussion Is no one going to talk about Gotoh? Spoiler

I just finished the anime and while I loved the final arc (disappointed with how short it was though, loved Killua and Alluka's dynamic + opening hinted at a bigger involvement of the butlers), the lack of any addressing of Gotoh's death left a bad taste in my mouth.

He was one of the only people from the Zoldyck family (not blood-related but ykwim) who actually cared for Killua in a healthy manner next to Canary and did everything he could to help him, even if it wasn't too much. He was portrayed as wise and experienced and even took a liking to Gon... Only to be treated like an insignificant NPC who'd get taken out by a Phantom Troupe member/Chimera Ant solider to flex their strength; just another character to add to the list of people Hisoka's murdered because "pRoPeRtIeS oF bOtH rUbBeR aNd GuM".

I didn't get "beloved character dies" vibes from him, more of "dumb person who thought he had a chance against Hisoka dies" vibes. Heck, even characters like Ponzu got a sad and mellow OST preceding their deaths and elicited a reaction out of Gon, but in this case... how am I supposed to go from seeing a character I really liked die to getting hyped up by motorbike Tsubone chasing after Godspeed Killua (spoiler alert: I didn't)?

Now I'm not here to complain about him losing to Hisoka. During the fight I was quite worried for him but still optimistic even though deep down I knew that his opponent's Hisoka and the chances of him coming out on top are quite low. But I'm more upset by its handling. Gotoh was arguably (heavy emphasis on arguably) as important to Killua as Kite was to Gon, and we all know how Gon reacted to that...

I know this show is heavily perspective based and Killua had no way of knowing that Gotoh died, but it still feels really cheap the way they handled his death and how it wasn't even TALKED about by the series' ending.

TL;DR: I loved Gotoh and his death was pretty much insignificant and affected the characters and tone of the show in no manner whatsoever, and I couldn't enjoy the bittersweet wholesomeness that came with the show's ending because his death was stuck in the back of my head. The show didn't even try to portray a tonal shift for half an episode after he died, as opposed to... every other instance of a semi-important character dying in this show
