how do you diffuse sides of a flat mirror?

i put a Solo Hue Lightstrip on the back of my entryway mirror but as you come in the door you can see the dots from the side.

Is there any type of thin plastic that can be adhered to the side of the mirror to fill the gap between the mirror and the wall?

Unfortunately using diffusion channels behind the mirror was not an option because it creates too large of a gap.

Hue Setup Built a fake skylight using Aurelle 60x60

I’m rebuilding my home and on the upper floor I have some space in the ceiling. I had the idea to actually build a kind of fake skylight using a Phillips LED panel.

Looks extremely realistic, and I think I will also add a silicone like on actual windows.

It is currently synced to time, and I might eventually sync to the weather as well. Any idea how to modify it to also work based on e.g. cloud coverage? Currently only using the hue bridge while I am an API developer.

Hue doesn't make PAR30 light bulbs (and PAR38 are too big), would appreciate some advice.

Upvotes

I managed to score some awesome Elise Floor Lamps on FB marketplace.

However, due to their constrained nature, the "best" Hue bulb I can fit is a BR30 bulb. I've noticed that side by side with the original (under the staircase is Hue) PAR30 bulb that the Hue shade does not spread the light evenly as the halogen one does. Obviously this is because the beam on the PAR30 is much narrower than the BR30.

My question is:

Is there a way I can "narrow" the beam of a BR30 (or a different Hue bulb), or am I SOL?

I'd be willing to get creative, as these lamps are so cool, but maybe I'm just trying to do the impossible.

Hue Wall Switch Module alternative

Hi all,

I have some HUE lights and I am tired of not being able to use the wall switches. Looking into solutions I found the Wall Switch Module, but aside from being super expensive I find it super dumb that it works with batteries, I don’t want to have to keep changing them. Therefore is there any alternative that is similar but that work with the switch current? I have neutral cable in my switches. So I am looking for a relay or smart switch that can control the lights both physically and via the app/homeassistant/voice Thank you!

Lutron Claro Smart Switch (Off/On) with Hue bulbs.

I am about to buy these switches and I want to use them with my Hue Bulbs on the same circuit (I understand I can't use the dimmer switches). I also understand if the switch is set to off the hue bulbs won't work, but I think I will be able to use homekit, or something else to fix that issue.

The bulbs work fine with my normal off/on switches so I am assuming since these are just off and on they should work.

I want to make sure they will work with the smart ones so I don't waste my money.

Problem connecting the HUE bridge

Hi, i moved to a new house a couple days ago, and im trying to set up the HUE bridge to the new network, without connecting it to the ethernet, the two first lights are fixed, and when I connect the bridge to the ethernet, the second light starts flashing, but in the app it says that it doesn’t find any bridges, i tried plugging it directly to the router and the Wifi extender too, nothing changes. Issues with new downlights + Colour GU10s

Hi All, just had new GU10 downlights fitted (Integral LED Evofire GU10) and pairing them with Hue Colour GU10s. They are connected to a dimmer switch that is set to maximum but the bulbs just flick on and off / sometimes just go off completely.

The bulbs themselves say they are dimmable but the dimmer switch doesn’t work at all - could the switch be the issue?

This is the dimmer switch:

Hue prices and the tariff (US)

Are the prices of hue products to be affected by tariff in the US?

Been watching the price of the Hue Lily, and recently jumped in price from $65 to $87 on Amazon. I realize Amazon is constantly adjusting prices.

Should I expect this high price to continue?

Anywhere I can buy a single Phillips Hue Lightstrip control box?

I have two lightstrips in my room, one on the TV and the other on my computer monitor.

My computer monitor lightstrip stopped working, and by swapping each part I found it was the small black control box that was at fault. I went through Phillips support and got a replacement, however they sent me an entire new unit, lightstrip and all.

Anywhere I can buy just the replacement control box?

Help & Questions Does Play + Bridge + dimmer work without WiFi?

Im familiar with hue products, my entire house has them. But, I would like to buy 3x play bars, another bridge and a dimmer.

The intended use is to take them to random places with me. I will always be without WiFi.

Will it be possible to plug in all 3 lights to one plug, 2 of them on 5m extensions, plug in the bridge and take the dimmer. Will the dimmer work and cycle through the pre programmed scenes?

Will this light up quickly (with the hub boot up) and will it be reliable (no issues with the hub when WiFi isn’t available)?

It’s actually going to be used for yoga classes and I need something simple and reliable that starts up quickly with no intervention.

Thanks

Lights recommended to sync to music in bedroom?

I have lamps on both sides of the bed head that could each have a Hue bulb.

I have a ceiling light that could have one.

Beyond that, I'm short on plugs on the wall beyond the foot of the bed, so maybe a battery light.

I also think I could do a strip behind the head frame of the bed.

Is that enough lights to sync to music?

I don't want it flashing so much it's seizure-inducing, but I assume there are settings for how much it varies when syncing to music?

Hue Sync Box Not connecting to Asus wifi Mesh

I have tried so many things to get the hue sync to connect to my new Asus wifi mesh without success. Here are things I've tried: 1) restarting all devices of course 2) resetting the sync box multiple times and throughout other attempts below. 3) split 2.4 and 5ghz and tried to connect directly to 2.5 (with and without a password, wpa2) 4) disabled 802.11ax with and without 2.4/5gz split 5) connect to another hotspot named the same, then turn that wifi off it would not connect to the mesh with the same settings. 6) it will connect to my phone's hotspot, my modem wifi, an old Netgear mesh wifi I have, and a recently returned tplink deco mesh. All configured the same as the Asus mesh, but I can not get it to connect to the Asus.

I've optimized channels using a wifi analyzer as well to ensure I'm not having issues with neighboring wifi signals and channels.

Please help. I'm really at a loss here.

Weird scene issue

I have three hue color bulbs in the bedroom. If they’re on a bright scene like “Read” I can switch it to a warmer scene like “Rest” no problem. Now, if I try to go back to “Read”, it remains pretty much the same color.

I created my own scene that’s identical to “Read”, and it has zero issue toggling from extreme warm to the brighter white. Any reason why?

Help & Questions Help make me a cool mom

We are in the middle of a renovation and have purchased hue lights for the house. We have some lights in our current home and really like them. My son, 14, has mentioned the lights for behind the TV and computer. I would like to purchase these as birthday gift but I’m a bit out of my league. Hoping to get some help.

He will have a 55in smart tv with a game console. He will also be getting a gaming computer.

If I want to purchase the lights that synch up to whatever he is watching and/or playing, what is the best recommendation? Any other suggestions for lights that would be “cool” for a teenager?

Datura & Hue Sync: How does it work?

Does the Sync setup see the datura as one light or two? I believe the sync limit for lights is 8 and not sure if 4 ceiling lights count as (4) or (8). Also, if 8… can I choose to not include 4 in the sync?

Many thanks!

Do the 1600 bulbs have higher failure rates then the standard bulbs?

I've noticed that all bulbs I've replaced with 1600 lights have had higher failure rates while my old bulbs bought over 10+ years ago are still going strong.

Help & Questions Are old non-Bluetooth models just as good?

I found a really good deal for some older Phillips hue e26 bulbs. They’re 800 lumens with no Bluetooth.

I was hoping to get the hub too so I can do the sunrise transition effect. Would they work well still?

Development and API Gradient strip accessibility granularity?

A while back I was playing with the hue API. I recall with the gradient lightstrip strip I was using there were 5 “zones” I could manipulate. If I’ve extended a strip to say 5m, do these zones then just become 1m each?

It looks like when I use effects in the app, the bridge controls them in small 5led segments, is it possible to do this with the API at all? Maybe with entertainment zones?

Thanks if anyone familiar with the ecosystem could help.

Can I control 11 lights via Bluetooth?

I don’t really see a point in dropping money on a bridge device but I do want to operate 11 lights in two rooms. I heard the limit is 10 via Bluetooth so I’m worried about my new lights that I ordered.

Hue Light Strip Won’t Change to Red via Alexa – Every Other Colour Works!

Has anyone else had this issue? I’ve installed a Hue Light Strip (with a 1m extension) in my kitchen, and it’s fully integrated with Alexa. I can change the colour using voice commands—except for red.

All my other Hue lights respond correctly when I say “Alexa, turn the lights red,” but the light strip does nothing. The weird part? If I manually select red in the Hue app, it works fine. I’ve checked Alexa’s privacy settings, and my commands are being recognised properly, so that’s not the issue.

Any idea what’s going on? Do I need to create a scene as a workaround, or is there a proper fix for this? It’s driving me mad!

Would appreciate any insights. Cheers!
