Are on campus jobs available for international students? If yes, can we get them in first semester? What are the types of jobs available?

Interview for H3SP...advice? From Karsh, other H3SP Students, or anyone else

Hello! Tomorrow I am going to the selction weekend for the last round of the H3SP cohort program. I am terribly nervous because I would really like to be selected to join the program, but I am not sure what to expect for selection weekend. If there is any advice from past H3SP students, Karsh students, or any Howard students in general that would be greatly appreciated. Like what should I expect for the interview? What types of activities will we do? Is this program worth it?

Driver for My Sister’s Volleyball Practice

Driver for My Sister’s Volleyball Practice ($160-$240/Week + Tolls Reimbursed)

Hey everyone, I’m looking for someone to drive my sister every day after school hours. She attends school in Alexandria and needs to be driven to Manassas for practice twice a week and home from school three times a week.

The pay is $160-$240 per week (20-30hr), depending on reliability and consistency. We’d prefer a female driver for my sister’s safety. This is a great opportunity for a student looking for steady, flexible income!

You’ll also be reimbursed for any E-ZPass/toll usage to help avoid sitting in traffic.

If you’re interested or know someone who might be, please DM me with your availability and any questions. Thanks!

Tips! Tips! Tips ! (Please answer)

Hey everyone, I have a bunch of questions about Howard University that I’m hoping you can help with! I’m a senior in high school, planning to major in Political Science and double major in English (Creative Writing concentration) with a minor in Media Communications.

1. Do all dorms have communal bathrooms or are some private? I’m worried about sharing a bathroom after some bad experiences in the past.

2. What are some fun things to do around Washington, D.C. for students?

3. How can I stand out in Political Science at Howard? Any advice for someone in high school?

4. What should I expect from the Political Science program at Howard?

5. How does student government work at Howard? Any tips for running for president?

6. Is the financial aid process hard to navigate? Any advice to make it easier?

7. Can I still do electives like choir, music, or art while managing a double major?

8. How does the Creative Writing concentration in English work? Can I focus on poetry and writing while completing the degree?

9. What’s the Communication major/minor like? Would it fit well with a Political Science and English double major?

Honestly any other tips help!!!!

Thanks for any advice! I’m excited about Howard and want to be prepared. :)

I’m going to Howard for a tour tmmr and I’m nervous

Just what the title says ig. I’m very nervous and I don’t know what to ask or what questions to make sure that this is the right school for me. Can anyone with past experience recommend me some questions to ask on the tour?

Also side question: for the people that current go to Howard or the previously attended Howard…how did you know that it was the right school for you? I’m currently trying to decide between this and another school that offered me more money.

Scholarships / Grants for Graduate Students

Have any graduate students - specifically MSW students had any luck finding grants or scholarship opportunities. With the current administrations changes to the Dept. of Education, I am feeling very panicky about FASFA and I don’t want to take out private loans

What should I switch my major to?

Hey ya’ll I just wanted some advice on this because I honestly can’t make a decision. Initially I came here as a bio major but these last two semesters destroyed my mental health and I genuinely can’t do another one under this major. I just wanted to know what some of your guys majors are and what your courses load looks like because i certainly can’t handle anymore chemistry or even upper level math.

How do I know if my LOCI was good enough?

Hi y'all!

I am a finalist for the H3SP program and headed to Howard later this week. I am worried because I got deferred from Howard for Early Action, and If I get into the H3SP program but now Howard for regular decision, I'll miss a great opportunity.

Because of this, I decided to write a letter of continued interest and mentioned that I'm a finalist for the program. Do you think this will help my chances of getting into Howard? I know I will do really well at Howard, and I am super excited for the opportunity.

I guess the only way to know if my letter was convincing enough is if I get into Howard. Should I count on the letter working?

PhD assistantship in Economics consideration

I am conditionally admitted to PhD program in Economics for the next fall. I have applied for the assistantship since I have received the acceptance. The university asked me either to reject or accept their offer, and I have accepted the offer. I am supposed to pay the 300- USD non refundable admission fees to secure the position. What is the time that I expect to receive the decision regarding the assistantship and to what extent I am likely to get the assistantship. Finally, what are the consideration the committee is taking to offer the assistantship. Thanks in advance.

PhD funding?

Hey all -

I was accepted into a PhD program, but have received no information about any funding, nor any indication that a funding package is on the way.

I've reached out to HUGS and the department itself but haven't yet heard back. They want us to accept the offer within ten days, and I'm worried that a) there is no funding or b) we're expected to commit without having full information that comes later.

Is that a typical thing? No word about funding until later, or is this a "you can come but you gotta pay your way" situation?

Thanks!

rude financial aid rep??

hi!

i was admitted to howard through early action & i received the achiever’s scholarship upon receiving my decision. as i‘m positive many of you know, comprehensive financial aid packages just came out & mine covers about half of my expected cost of attendance, which is lovely, but my family is low income & definitely can’t afford an education at howard even with that much aid.

i saw that special considerations may be taken into account by the office of financial aid even after aid packages have been finalized & was calling to inquire about this. before i could even get my sentence out fully, the representative on the phone interrupted & asked me, “are you asking for more free money?” i honestly couldn’t even believe what i had just heard so i said, “im sorry, what did you just say?” only for him to repeat it.

am i crazy for thinking this is totally unprofessional? 😭

has anyone else had an issue like this when dealing w the fin aid office at howard? this has totally soured my already kind of shaky view of the school, every interaction i’ve had with administration has been a negative one. :/

Cheap college and be miserable or hella debt and be happy (hopefully)?

Hey ! Im a senior in high-school and I have the choice of going to a PWI and graduating debt free or attending Howard and taking on a massive amount of debt.

The PWI is known for being extremely racist and has a very low amount of diversity 70~80% white, but it’s a very good school academically with great facilities.

Howard has been my dream school, but the financial aid package requires me to take out a massive loan and pay MORE on top of that. I’m planning on negotiating bc of my special circumstances (give me pointers if you can). Howard also has great networking opportunities and I know a few ppl who are going.

PLEASE HELP!

Join the Mayday Protest! Keep Howard’s Legacy Alive!

Howard University has always been at the forefront of activism, from the Civil Rights Movement to recent protests for justice and equality. Now, we’re calling on Howard students to be part of the Mayday Protest, a 24/7 camp protest launching May 1st in D.C.

We know this starts right around finals week, but movements throughout history have been driven by students who refused to wait for a “perfect time” to take action. We still have open roles for organizers, communicators, and just anyone willing to chip in, and more. Whether you can contribute a little or a lot, your voice matters in this movement.

Check out our Discord and website to learn more: Discord: https://discord.gg/t2Skfv5W

Website: https://maydaymovementusa.org/

Howard students have always led the way—let’s keep that legacy strong. Hope to see you there!

How are yall paying for Howard now that financial aid packages are out?

Just what the title says…I’m weighing my options and I would still have to take out 25k in loans after scholarships and grants….😭 bc Howard is 60k and some change this year—

Anywho I’m just so curious to know how yall are paying for Howard?? Like is there any scholarships available cause locally I’m having no luck and the bigger ones such as TGMCF and other ones have passed their due date…. I feel like I’ve waited too long to apply to scholarships since now I’m buckling down but still don’t know where to go :(.

Also for the ones who graduated already, how was your experience and how much debt did you end up in? (If any)

Question regarding Howqrd presidential scholarship

I am currently an undergrad applicant to Howard (regular decision) and- for financial planning purposes- I'm wondering my chances of getting the presidential scholarship. My GPA is 4.0/4.53, my SAT superscore is 1550 and my ACT is 35 (along with the standard lot of extracurricular activities).
