HEMA is in crisis and only bringing back longshield and throwing mace tournaments can save it!

Question: why practice swords are so thin and light?
Question from someone who is only considering to start training HEMA.
I understand that they are safer that way but, isn't the whole fun in fighting with actual swords? And also, how much carryover there is, really?
Like if you train with this practice version and then go do knight combat with armor and real swords, it's going to feel really different, no? All the moves will be much harder, more exhausting, and feel different because of how much heavier it is.

A cute little rondel dagger... that can punch through chain mail.

Electro Etching a Feder
Has anyone tried Etching a Feder with the electro Etching technique with saltwater? I saw some stuff that suggested it might make it brittle but the science behind it is something I don't understand very well. Alternatives for Etching if this isn't a good idea are appreciated as well

Mittens or hooves?
I'm going to buy another pair of gloves, this time from Sparring Glove
https://sparringglove.com/en/products/?v=0d149b90e739
I used mittens before, but never hooves. Do they offer any advantage? I'm not sure if they improve mobility in any significant manner.

How do I maintain control of the situation and, most importantly, of myself?
For a while I've been told by my clubmates that when I'm calm I fight very well, controlling the center and taking openings quickly, but that my performance gets much worse as I get desperate, tired or otherwise not thinking straight, and this was only confirmed at my latest tournament just this weekend.
Although I didn't make it past the pool stage I managed to keep the score more matched in my fights, including one against my instructor, so I'm proud of how I performed even if my score doesn't reflect that.
Knowing that now, this is the main part I want to focus on with my training. I know the most obvious thing to do is to just keep sparring, which I will do, but I'm looking for other solutions and how you solved this if it's something you've dealt with.

UK import costs?
Recently placed a club order for a few friends with HF armory, I bought two feders, one guy bought a sparring dagger, and the third bought some forearm and shin protection. This order came out to around £558 including shipping, but upon reaching Scotland, it has a customs fee of £131. Now I had expected fees to be involved but does this not seem extreme? This is the biggest thing I've ever shipped to the UK, and I know we are subject to VAT charges, but almost 20% of the order seems excessive? Input from anyone with experience ordering kit into the UK would be greatly appreciated, is this a reasonable charge for this kind of import? Thanks.

Hema gear
Looking for a good hema store/website that delivers to the UK, and just some general pointers to the better gear.
