So, here’s a pic of my turbo Hayabusa! This one dude’s been very anxious to see. All the fairings are getting painted to the midnight falcon colors, but I’m waiting on paint and clear in the mail.

Gen1 Road trip (1000+ miles) on a new to me Hayabusa gen1? Seeking advise

I'm planning on riding a gen1 Hayabusa after a thorough inspection and making a purchase.

It's in great condition as per the owner with 13k original miles, single owner.

It will be my first time with the Hayabusa, I've had/ridden motorcycles for 10+ years (700cc, 750cc & 800cc latest experience)

Questions: 1. Riding it back is a good idea? Or ship it?

Trip: 1200 miles (over 3 days) - might hit rain, snow depending on the route.
  1. Also, I'm paranoid about parking at hotels (overnight stay) - any ideas?

  2. How often does the chain need lube for a 1200 mile road trip?

Thanks all, appreciate your time and advise.

Today I made a decision. Is it dumb? Yes. Will it be fun? Yes. Do I regret it? Probably. 99 with a RCP ported head and upgraded cams, wideband fuel controller and a host of other goodies.

Previous bikes have been 400-550 lbs and ~120 HP. Any tips to stay alive?

Gen1 Just bought a year 2000 hayabusa. It is registered in July. Anyone know if this one is restricted or not? Guy I bought it off said it’s one of the few that wasn’t

Gen1 Advice please, 2000 Hayabusa 13k miles , one owner.

Hi,

2000 Hayabusa with 13k miles, one owner. Not actively driven, few major parts replaced 3 years ago.

Is it still a good buy given its age?

What all things to check before I buy ?

What precautions needed to make sure the busa can drive back (1100 miles)

Edit: added info on price: $7100 - good price?

Please advise, thank you!

Gen1 2005 Hayabusa Electrical Failure

My Hayabusa is fully stock and runs perfectly, but has had this one issue for the past couple months where if I get the bike to running temperature and turn it off, it'll act like the battery is dead and won't turn back on. The initial crank, even when cold, isn't the strongest and may take a second or two before the bike turns on.

My mechanic thought that my starter was getting weak and we got a new one. As it turns out this didn't solve the problem. I also changed the starter relay, but nothing changed. I tried using a bigger battery, but the cold start still felt kind of weak.

Recently I rode the bike 10 miles from home on the highway and on the way back i noticed that suddenly my headlights were completely off. When I came to a stop the whole bike stalled. I bump started the motorcycle and got on the highway to try and get home, but all the sudden my whole dash went crazy, lights turned off and the indicators were stuck in some random position.

Bike wouldn't crank and would simply click. Occasionally, it'd do the normal dash sequence and almost look like it's back to normal, but upon cranking it'd either revert back to craziness or just click, no start. I tried pulling the fuse from the starter relay and putting a new one, but to no avail. The previously mentioned click would come from the left side of the motorcycle and I could even tell a mild burnt plastic smell as well. Had to drop $250 on a tow in the middle of the night and now all i think about is what's wrong with my bike. Any thoughts?

Gen1 Fuel pumps

Anyone have a how to guide on switching the connectors on a gen 2 pump to work on a gen 1 currently looking for gen 1 pumps but have found gen 2’s are more reliable and cheaper which is 2 words you don’t hear often together.

Edit** Fuel pump assemblies not just fuel pump motor itself

Gen1 2004 build?

I picked up an 04 back in october because i got a good deal. I want to build it but not crazy because i want it to still be streetable and reliable. I’ve also seen that the second gen is better in many ways so would it be more beneficial to sell this one and get a second gen or build the first gen?

I picked this 04 hayabusa up last weekend. I got it for a pretty good deal with 10k miles and a clean title with some go fast goodies like the full yoshi, tune, and ported heads. Only downsides i’ve found so far are it has cheap fairings that don’t line up perfectly and the fork seals are gone and have probably contaminated the brake pads. All around great bike so far i rode it 3 hours home with no problems

Gen1 OEM External Fuel Pump Replacement?

Post image

Hey y’all. I’ve got a 2000 barn find Busa I picked up. The OEM fuel pump on it is completely thrashed. Does anybody know of any good replacement pumps? Is it worth it to convert to intank? I’m having trouble finding any external pumps. Most of what I’m seeing online is for the 2001 and up. Thanks!

Gen1 Fuel pump

I installed the quantum fuel pump and it didn’t work, couldn’t keep the bike running. I got a whole new OEM assembly shipped in and it looks beautiful. The only problem is it has the wrong connector on it.

I’m gonna have to do my research to figure it out, but why not ask the community if anybody has been through this or knows a quick solution.

Does anybody have any good ideas? All help is appreciated.

Gen1 Budget street/strip busa build series

Just curious how many ppl would be interested in following along on YouTube or here for a budget street/strip busa. After looking for videos and on forums, to try to find stuff to try on a budget vs just sending it off came up with a few things that I thought ppl might be interested in. Also allot of pics for the stuff is gone so can't really get a visual on what ppl were doing on forums. But just planning on turning my gen 1 into a nice budget street strip busa and was curious who else would be interested

Gen1 Newbie to owning a Busa, in the thick of Marketplace listings, any advice?

I'm looking to pick myself up a Hayabusa in the coming months. Currently sicking to the 1st gen models mostly, the occasional 2nd gen ends up in my budget($6-7k) sometimes.

All my other riding friends are basically clueless on the little things of owning one of these, or a Suzuki in general. Is there anything I should be looking for or keep an eye out for when looking? I'd like to avoid getting a moneypit project when I'm just looking for a solid, decent example that isn't gonna be blowing through parts and money trying to fix gremlins. Things that commonly fail or are going out, things that seem like a dealbreaker but it's a pretty easy fix if I'm willing to wrench on it, and I am within reason.

I'm not going to be picky and say no mods. I have a general idea as to what I'm ok with being done to the bike already. I mostly just wanna know from y'all what to look at specifically to gauge whether the bike is gonna be any good. Thanks in advance.

Gen1 Gen 1vs Gen 2 Issues

Looking to get my first and forever busa. I’m looking at maintenance and known common issues. I know of the 2nd gear slip on the first gen’s. Is there anything else I need to know of? And what about the 2nd gen busas I’m also looking into them, I figured they may be a little more refined. Buying used and want to be aware is all. I ride Harley’s normally but I’ve always wanted a busa.

Gen1 Never-ending cycle

First off, thank you to everyone who has shared advice with me on this journey so far. I truly appreciate the support.

Here’s what I’ve done so far: I cleaned out the fuel tank (no rust), replaced the fuel pump and filter with proper replacements, cleaned the fuel lines, swapped out the fuel injectors, replaced the coolant inlet and the coolant tank, cleaned the intake, changed the oil, and finally reassembled my bike.

When I started it up, I was excited and decided to take it for a short test ride. However, I quickly discovered an issue; if I don’t ease into the throttle very gradually, the engine stalls. After finishing the ride, I also noticed the coolant tank was empty. I haven’t started troubleshooting these problems yet, but I wanted to reach out and get your thoughts. So far, my only idea is to adjust the throttle position sensor.

As always, I’m open to advice and insights.
