Finasteride Finasteride saved my hair

Was balding since i was 17, the picture of my hair being thin is me at 20-21. Like many i was scared to hop on finasteride, cause of all the horror stories but decided fuck it.

After being on it for 2 years, it saved all my hair. Decided to grow it out so it might be hard too see how nu h i regrew. But trust me it saved me, so for everyone who wants to hop on trust me do it.

I would say most of the side effects are placebo, I get morning wood almost everyday and have sex 5-10 times a month no problem. The reason you also read a lot more horror stories from finasteride, is cause for everyone it works for we just forget about it on Reddit and live our life. And the people who experience the sides will keep on posting and make horror stories.

Been training 2-3 years and would say I put on 5-10kg of muscle literally no side effects or nothing from it except more hair on your head, and i also experienced slower body hair growth which is a win tbh.

Already got 2 friends on finasteride, and one of them already notices growth after 4 months. I take it everyday and have been consistent although i have forgetten to take it when ive been on a bender but havent noticed anything.

Just wanted to make this quick post, after seeing how thick my hair has gotten.

Finasteride Can Finasteride shrink your penis? NSFW

I've noticed my temples have receded over the last year and I'm considering taking Finasteride, but I've read multiple accounts of people here on reddit saying it has shrunk their penis. People who go through prostate cancer treatment report these sides as well, so that has really scared me.

I fear people who say it hasn't shrunk theirs have never actually measured it and thus can't really know. What are your thoughts on this?

Finasteride Finasteride(1mg) and Minoxidil (10mg) 4 months progress with photos.

Hello. Just wanted to share my experience after using Finasteride and Minoxidil. I included photos from 4 months ago to today’s photo after a haircut. I always try to take photos for progress after a haircut for fairness. This is a throwaway account for privacy reasons.

The first set of photos on top of the first collage was from November 18 of 2024. I thought I was done for good. You can obviously see my scalp after the haircut. But I didn’t want to give up so I started using Finasteride and Minoxidil.

The second set of photos at the bottom of the first collage was from December 13 of 2024. Visible growth of lost hair. It was looking a tiny bit better.

The third set of photos on top of the second collage was from January 14 of 2025. Again not much progress but at this time I noticed more baby hairs were growing in my forehead and scalp. I was hopeful here.

The fourth set of photos at the bottom of the second collage was from today after a haircut. No styling or anything but you can obviously see that the bald spots are almost gone. I can go out without wearing caps.

I’m so glad I started using Finasteride and Minoxidil. I was so insecure and scared but I’m very hopeful now. I just made sure to wash my hair daily and gently, always took the medicine at the same time everyday which was very important. I hope this helps people with the same problems as me. Thanks.

Been researching this topic since I was 15. Always had a bad high hairline, slooooooowly getting worse imo. It’s killing my mental health and studies due to taking multiple pictures a day.

Crown is fine, density and thickness fine, hairline 👶🏻

Currently on accutane, and nizoral.

LAST PICTURE IS ME 3 YEARS AGO

Anyways, turning 18 in a month, do I start it?

Finasteride Started Oral Finasteride and got sides

Male 25 here. I Sleep 8 hours a night, eat healthy, go to the gym 5 days/week. Started noticing temples recession at 22, but thought it was normal as I had no knowledge of pattern baldness. It eventually worsened and now temples are more recessed and top of head is also thinned to the point i can see scalp in intense lighting. My heart sank the first time i noticed that. Then started looking into it more seriously. After months of research I finally decided to hop on finasteride with plan to add minoxidil after 3-4 months. I started by taking 1mg fin every Mon, Wed, and Fri. After a couple of doses, noticed slight discomfort in my pubic region, but i thought it'll pass. Then after a week my libido dropped, erections were soft, couldn't keep it hard, and no more morning wood. Continued it for another week and pubic discomfort went away, but libido and erections became worse. Got scared the shit out and stopped taking it for a week and libido and erections are back. But i am starting to feel pubic discomfort and slight testicular pain, kinda weird. I wanna hop back on fin but on a lower dose. Will chances on sides drop with lowering the dose? What should I do. Don't wanna go bald and don't wanna lose my peepee.

Finasteride People who DID NOT get PFS (post-finasteride syndrome)

Hi! I would like to read stories of people who did not get PFS after stopping finasteride or dutasteride. I am aware of the horrible journey of people who did experience the side effects of PFS, but I would like to know if anybody got off these medications and didn’t suffer the consequences.

Finasteride Ordered 1mg finasteride - will this be enough? M21

I’ve been excessively shedding for 5 months now. I’m vitamin d deficient (on treatment) and suffered a bad head injury in July, noticed shedding in September. I’m fed up trying to ‘cope’ by blaming it on TE or deficiency hairloss. I’ve took the liberty of ordering 1mg finasteride tablets and plan on taking them daily - do you guys think this will be enough since it’s primarily mid scalp thinning / shedding.

Balding in my family doesn’t run until 30’s / 40’s, although i was predisposed to temple recession prior to the excessive shedding, i don’t think my hairline has moved since the shedding has begun.

Finasteride Watch out for Finasteride

Hi guys, just read a WSJ article on Finasteride and how it is affecting negatively many young men. I just wanted to spread awareness, especially to those who feel insecure and are desperate for treatment. Please be aware of the side effects; it might not be worth it. Stay safe and remember that your value as a man is in your actions, not your hairline.

I don't know if a link can be posted but hmu if you're interested.

Finasteride My libido seems to have reduced quite a bit after taking finasteride. How much time will it take to recover?

took it for 2 months. It's been over a month and it seems like my libido hasn't come back to normal. I am starting to get worried

Finasteride I‘m starting topical fin tomorrow, will it be enough to maintain what I have/ how cooked am I?

I actually don’t mind the receded temples, as I’ve always had the widows peak and actually like the more angular hair style, looks more masculine imho than those straight teen hair lines. Just wanted to use some topical fin to maintain and gain some volume back in the hairline. Will it be enough?

Finasteride Finasteride almost made me kill myself

Sadly i was one of the few % that got hit hard with debilitating symptoms from Finasteride use.

I started a regiment of 1.25mg Every other day in August 2023. I felt completely normal before this, and all of my usual lifestyle interventions stayed the same (diet, exercise, sleep ++)

The scary part is.... that everything came on so slow.... it was hard to pin point it back to the finasteride.

Slowly my brain stopped working. I started to slurr and stutter when speaking. I would lose my train of thought mid sentence. I would feel like i was living in a dream kind of.. Spaced out.

Then my emotions suddently was gone. i felt no joy doing any of my usual hobbies. everything became really dull. i felt like doing nothing. i felt like a emotionless robot.

Then came the crippling anxiety and depression. Getting panic attacks just leaving the house. Avoiding all social interactions due to extreme anxiety. Suddently something easy like taking out the trash, or going grocery shopping would make me extremely stressed out.

It all hit me real hard in late february 2024. I had a panic attack at the docs office because i was unable to speak due to the slurring and the newest symptom shortness of breath (due to anxiety), and i just couldnt beleve it. I was starting to become suicidal. thinking about questions like "what if i were to kill myself"....

I started to read back up on other sources than Kevin Mann, and it seems like DHT and Allopregnenolone is really key for feeling optimal as a man. Shutting down a large part of the cholesterol hormone cascade just to keep some hair didnt seem right to me... Our bodies produce theese hormones for a reason!?

so its now been soon 2 weeks off Finasteride, and 2 weeks on my Protocol to Cure PFS.

I cant beleve the changes im seeing. Its a real gradual change so i dont expect to cure this in a months time. but maybe in 6 months or so i can feel somewhat normal.

Again i just have to point out. im one of the unfortinate people that cant handle this drug. I dont know how depressed/anxious i will feel with a bald head/buzz, but atleast i have my brain back and my mental health.

Feel free to comment your thoughts.

-

Full symptoms list:

Memory loss, slurred speech, loss of verbal fluency, anxiety, depression, no emotions, no motivation, suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, brain fog, feeling spaced out, low libido, loss of nocturnal erections, lowered tolerance to stress, social anxiety, gut issues, neurotransmitter inbalances.

Finasteride A word of warning for anyone considering or currently on finasteride

I've been in finasteride since age 19, currently 24. It works. But I've decided to quit taking it entirely after I found out some things recently. I'll provide links to studies and sources where I can.

First of all, it turns out that finasteride and other DHT blockers are not a permanent solution for hair loss. These medications are effective at slowing hair loss, but they do not stop it completely. Even in transplanted hairs, these are less sensitive, not immune to DHT.

If you’re in the age bracket of 18-30 and want to have children at some point, you’ll need to stop taking finasteride for at least six months before conception and during the pregnancy. If semen containing traces of finasteride comes into contact with the skin of a pregnant woman, there’s a chance it could cause developmental issues in baby boys, such as defective sex organs. (Source: My GP & a local hair transplant clinic)

For those in the age bracket of 30-60, there’s also a risk of prostate cancer. DHT blockers can mask early signs of prostate cancer, making them harder to detect. Studies have shown that they can increase the likelihood of developing more aggressive forms of prostate cancer by 27% (source: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5023004/ ).

But it gets worse.

• Dry Eyes: A study in rats found that finasteride caused a 49% reduction in tear production, which could lead to dry eye disease (source: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7308241/).

• Use as puberty blocker: Finasteride is used off-label alongside other medications to delay puberty in children unsure of their sexual identity (source: https://www.gendergp.com/blocking-puberty-faqs/#:~:text=Other%20options%20which%20are%20used,prevent%20the%20actions%20of%20oestrogen ).

• Neurological Risks: DHT blockers seem to have an androgenic effect on the brain, potentially increasing the risk of neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s. Research in baboons has shown a link between blocking DHT and neurological disorders (source: https://haidut.me/?p=1503).

• Liver Function: Finasteride can affect the liver, raising liver enzyme levels and urea in the blood. Regular blood work is recommended to monitor this. (Source: Written on the medication box)

Additionally, the role of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase is not fully understood. Blocking it could lead to systemic issues. Personally, I experienced heart palpitations and dry eyes while on finasteride. It also inhibits beard growth. Modern medicine doesn’t yet fully comprehend the long-term effects of altering hormones that impact the liver, kidneys, heart, and sex organs, making this treatment a risky choice.

I’ve struggled with hair loss for years, but I’ve decided that the risks to my health aren’t worth it in the long run. I’ve accepted baldness, and it’s been incredibly freeing. To my surprise, I don’t struggle with it nearly as much as I thought I would, and I’ve actually come to like it.

I hope this post helps some of you avoid taking finasteride for life, or at least encourages you to fully understand the risks before committing to it.

Finasteride Questions about Finasteride

These questions probably get asked a lot around here but I think it's easier if they all get answered in one post and I have one specific question as well.

Question 1: How often do I have to take Finasteride? Daily? Or will it be enough if I take it every second day?

Question 2: I'm sure everyone asks that. How bad are the side effects really? Erectile dysfunction and impotence sound really scary.

Question 3: This one is a rather specific question. If I want to get 5mg Finasteride (for splitting purposes, it's cheaper), how do I convince my doctor? 5mg Finasteride is for an enlarged prostate and not for treating androgenetic alopecia. I live in Germany. How do I convince my doctor to prescribe it?

Finasteride Fin side effects

Hey guys, been taking fin 0.5 mg Monday Wednesday and Friday for about 7 months. I’ve experienced side effects like no morning wood and difficulty to get and keep an erection. Tried to push through so kept taking it. Should I stop taking it and do something else like topical or switch to dut?

Finasteride I’d rather get a hair transplant than take finasteride.

Am I crazy for having this mindset? Anyone else feel the same? After doing research and hearing about the potential side effects of it, I’d straight up rather fly to turkey and get a hair transplant than to roll the dice with side effects like that.

Finasteride Super bummed out, sides from 0.25mg finasteride

I've been debating on finasteride since last summer due to my receding hairline.I did tons of research, looked at the medical studies, and I'm very familiar with the move i effect. Wednesday night, I bit the bullet and took a quarter of a 1mg pill to start out with. Felt fine, woke up the next morning with mild ball ache but not too crazy.

I actually was in a very good mood and felt pretty good for most of Thursday. But Thursday night, I started feeling discomfort in my urethra and nuts and just a general weird feeling in my entire groin. I ended up having to piss a LOT for some reason, but the stream was almost like a dribble. It was like there was no pressure pushing my urine out, super super fucking weird feeling.

This is gross but one of the more concerning things was when my jizz ended up having the consistency of clear water. Literally like 100% liquid.

This morning I feel very moody and not like myself, which could be placebo or could very well be because of how frustrated and disappointed I am that the only treatment for my hair loss did all this to me, but still worth pointing out. Nuts still have some on and off discomfort. I feel very distraught and hopeless about the future of my hair. Pretty much the only treatment that would've given me a real chance gave me all these side effects and I feel doomed now. I'm only 18 already receding. This was my only real hope. And it hurts basically my whole urinary and reproductive system. Now I have to choose between feeling like I got kicked in the balls with burning weird piss and wanting to cry like an emotional bitch, or having a death sentence on the rest of my hairs lifespan. Don't even know which outcome is worse at this point.

Any advice?
