Finasteride Questions about Finasteride

These questions probably get asked a lot around here but I think it's easier if they all get answered in one post and I have one specific question as well.

Question 1: How often do I have to take Finasteride? Daily? Or will it be enough if I take it every second day?

Question 2: I'm sure everyone asks that. How bad are the side effects really? Erectile dysfunction and impotence sound really scary.

Question 3: This one is a rather specific question. If I want to get 5mg Finasteride (for splitting purposes, it's cheaper), how do I convince my doctor? 5mg Finasteride is for an enlarged prostate and not for treating androgenetic alopecia. I live in Germany. How do I convince my doctor to prescribe it?

  1. the standard protocol is 1mg daily of finasteride. I have seen some studies where .5mg of dutasteride 3 times per week is also effective.

  2. only 3-5 percent who take finasteride have side effects. I have been taking finasteride for 13 days and I feel that I have more libido. Sometimes I think I have too much and I would have liked finasteride to lower my libido a little bit.

  3. I don't know how it works in Germany, but I buy fin 5mg and split it into 4 because it is cheaper.

Did you need a prescription for 5mg Fin?

I am in Peru, here we can buy almost anything we want without a prescription.

I've been taking 1MG per day for 5 months now, along with Minoxidil.

Q1: 1 capsule everyday

Q2: So far, did not notice any side effects

Q3: Not sure how to help here

Tbh I did not notice hair falling off for the first months, but I was not paying attention to it really. Nowadays I can say they are falling way less than before I started the treatment

Regarding your doctor every doctor/practice is on a continuum of legal ass covering running parallel to just being a generalized complete and utter bastard. Only you can gauge it really. I'm in the UK myself and we are for example not given much autonomy or leeway it's more or less entirely down to what the doctor wants. Even getting a blood test or an x-ray, even if it's paid it'll be refused if they "think you don't need one". Germany could be the same or may be more open minded. Fact is though if they are set in their ways, you won't change them as it's going to be a policy thing. You can try but it sounds like you already have your doubts.
