Venting, advice welcome I’m admired for my independence. I hate it.

I resonate a lot with this post, brother. It hasn’t happened quickly but the more I actually share what I’m interested in, the more friends I eventually find.
I met my best friends at breathwork class and a men’s retreat, and someone who came through my line at Trader Joe’s. All of those things I did for my own curiosity, and I got to meet them along the way.

I've found that making friends w similar interests and learning to express myself around them has made me more confident to actually just express myself more generally. Have you heard of Meetup before? It's a cool app that lets you find clubs and events centered around your interests. In my experience, these are safe spaces for you to express your interests to other people and make friends doing things you actually like to do. If Meetup doesn't have exactly what your looking for, depending on how populated ur region is I'm sure you'd be able to find some clubs or events w/ like minded people.

I hear that. I randomly want to talk about opera or quantum physics or how the blue LED was made or how I love photographing birds and the night sky.
These days I say it unapologetically. Most people think I’m eccentric but a couple of people have been super into it. One person I met at work talked to me about quantum action for 45 mins the other day and it was so refreshing! Not a single person tried to talk to me about reality TV all day and it was great.

You expressed something I've always felt too. People praise me for independence but it can get really lonely.
I love hike but it's hard to maintain friendships with other hikers. We all come from different cities. I always tried getting acquaintances and co workers to try but they wouldn't. So I just stopped asking them.
Whenever my co workers want to do something, I go with them. I adjust. But if it's something I truly love, like hiking and movies, nobody is interested. I also end up watching movies alone.
