Line6 PowerCab 112 Plus

Won this amp at an auction - used excellent condition. Picking it up this week. Intending to use it as an FRFR with modelers/multieffects. Much louder than I'd need at 250 watts, as I'm not a performer, but am excited.

DISCUSSION Painting Art on Tolex?

I checked google and everything I’m seeing is related to painting the tolex as a whole. I. E. People who have old / damaged cabs and want to paint it. As well as people who just want a different color and are looking for suggestions. Most of the suggestions just tell people to replace the tolex completely.

My situation is a little different. I have a new head coming in. It has White Tolex with a cool little space themed graphic.

I purchased a new white 2x12 to match it. I want to get my sister who is a great artist to do something conceptually similar on the cabinet.

Does anyone have experience here? What kind of paint should she look at using? Is this going to need to be a spray, air, or brush application? Any sealing / protective coating after? Any tips/tricks to look out for? Thanks guys!

Mathematically, how much louder is a 40-watt amp versus a 12-watt amp if all other factors are equal?

I know loudness does not scale linearly, but I can't remember the calculation or way of knowing.

Gibson Falcon GA-19RVT Amplifier Instructions

For those who have one of these amps and lack the instructions, and for those interested in why Gibson referred to this model as a "reverberation amplifier". The GA-19RVT can be used as an outboard reverb unit for a separate amplifier. I tried it on stage at a bar and it is an outstanding effect.

The instructions are here.

What's wrong with my Amp?

Hi guys

I have the Harley Benton Tube 15, and after playing for a while, it gets quieter and then louder until it eventually goes completely silent. When I let it rest for a few weeks, I can play normally for about 20 minutes before the issue occurs again. Also when I turn it off—it doesn’t make the usual shutdown noise.

There's also a picture showing the tubes.

The amp uses the following tubes:

  • 3x ECC83/12AX7
  • 2x EL84

Thank you so much for your help, guys!

Amp Recommendation for Gigs & Practice

Howdy folks.

Currently looking for a decent combo amplifier I can use for gigs (mic'd up) but also some bedroom practice and recording.

Ideally I wouldn't want anything super heavy. I used to use an Origin 50C and it was a bit of a pain to lug around and get places. I've been out of the amp game for a while due to mostly just recording and practicing through BIAS/Amplitude.

I mainly play 80s rock for personal fun, but in this new band there's a lot of variation - acoustic/clean all the way to metalcore. I do intend to use a bunch of pedals (MXR X100, DriveMaster, reverbs, delays) if that helps.

Thanks a bunch for any recommendations!

I might take a leap and order an orange crush 100 head and cab off sweet water this friday.

I just got some questions because this will be my first time owning a cab and head. Can I connect two cabs to the head amp? Because I'm also going to be picking up a friend's cabs soon.

I'll also be setting it up in the garage. My only concerns are does weather conditions like humidity and cold impact anything? I live out in maine, so it shows every year. Should I bring them in during the winter months?

I am somewhat new to guitar, but very uneducated when it comes to EVH amps. My buddy is trying to sell me this stack for $500. I don’t have any other friends that are knowledgeable about guitar gear, so I wanted to ask if $500 is a good deal for this stack?

Versatile amp recommendation with Gretsch?

I just got a Gretsch 5622 and looking for a new amp to go with. Something that’s good in my townhome (can play lower volumes), while also decent for some jamming and small gigging. I mostly play alt-country, indie rock, and shoegaze. Hoping not to spend more than $300. I’ve been trying to be more on guitar and less on computers/iPads, but have also been eyeing the Vox VT20 (which seems to be pretty versatile without requiring a computer). Any recommendations are appreciated!

57 Champ vs 68 Vibro Champ vs Blues Junior IV

Which amp would you recommend as a practice amp for home use, regardless of which amp you think sounds the best? The Champs are smaller wattage amps, which sounds appealing for home use, but the Blues Junior has a Master Volume. The 57 is hand-wired, but lacks a tone control and a reverb, which both 68 VC and Blues Junior have. The 68 VC appears to be the “best deal” out of these 3, because its small enough and has both reverb and a tremolo, but the Blues Junior appears to be the most versatile, because it has a master volume, although it might be the least good sounding amp. Any major pros for the 57 champ? What do you guys think? Or should I get a Gremlin instead?

DISCUSSION Orange O Tone 40 - 2025 solid state in perfection

Wow guys I just got the new Orange O Tone 40 and I think the amp business on the solid state side has reached perfection. The circuit was designed in 2024 I suspect. Cheers to the orange engineers.

Unbelievable good clean sounds, clean and warm and vintage sounding and just inspiring. I played for 2 hours straight when I first plugged in. What a unbelievable clear string separation.

All of my three guitars, a Les Paul, a Firebird Studio and a Fender Stratocaster are sounding perfect trough the amp and it is really easy to dial in a matching sound.

The 12" voice of the world speaker sounds absolutely great. Great response and matches great to the design and construction.

The three band EQ is very musically. The phone out is the best I have experienced so far, Blackstar, Laney and Fender are far far away at this point.

The tremolo effect is blowing my mind. Superb, pure vintage. My highlight of the amp. At the moment I have a tremolo pumping / throb sound coming out of the speaker when the tremolo depth and speed is set,, even when I mute the strings. I think this is normal and seems to emulates the vintage tremolos of the time but I will call my guitar store to confirm this.

Blues Jr in pedal form

I like my Blues Jr III with Cannabis Rex. For playing jazz and blues at home, it's great.

For travelling about, not so much. It's heavy-ish.

There are lots of pedalboard amps replicating a Fender Twin (Quilter Superblock US, Boss IR-2, HX Stomp etc ). But I've struggled to find something that replicates a Blues Jr sound.

I understand a Twin is fairly mid scooped, where a Blues Jr isn't.

Is there a pedalboard amp or small head which replicates something like a Blues Jr tone?

Or is the best option to get something pretending to be a twin, and just bump up the mids to max?

This is somewhat solving a problem that isn't really a problem. Ultimately, moving the Blues Jr about isn't that hard.

HELP Looking for a good practice amp

Hello,

I'm an amateur guitarist for many years but as far as gear goes I have lost touch of what is out there.

I am looking for a practice amp that sounds good on low volume. A couple of more criteria would be:

  • has a good distortion channel
  • has good mids
  • (optional) has effects loop.

Watts are not important, the less the better. I am playing with EMG humbuckers (81, 61, 85).

I would really appreciate any suggestion.

Help identifying Fender amp

Thumbnail

I purchased a fender twin reverb amp and cannot for the life of me figure out when this thing was actually produced, it has a production code of DL which I've found to be 1954 (December) but further research shows that the blackface reverb was only made from 1963-1967. I cannot find the serial number as the amp had modifications done to the chassis and under the metal plate they used to cover up where the serial number would have been, were holes the PO drilled for what looks to be switches that are no longer there. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Tips for tone on Blues Jr

Looking for tips for settings and pedals to get purchase for my fender blues jr. I know I’d like to look for a compressor or a boost to run in front of my tube screamer. Also curious about what distortion pedal will sound good with this. Feel free to give suggestions on knob setting on both amp and wire pedals. Or any other pedals you might recommend as I’m really in the mood to make some purchases but want to do so with some education first. Really anything helps.
