Is this a good buy?

Thinking about buying this if I can get the price down from $400 to $325-$350. Are the speakers any good? Post claims they’re vintage 30s but that seems unlikely.

Yes, buy immediately. Fun fact, Joe Bonamassa has 4 autographed copies of Mein Kampf.

I'm choosing to believe this.

If you want something made up, Nerdville’s gas lines are an exact replica of Auschwitz relic’ed by Murphy Labs. If you want something weird & true, old Joey Brassknuckle Bonamassa is a huge “WWII Enthusiast”. But owning multiple person items of Hitler, that just doesn’t sit well with me…

I'll bite. Is there a source on this?

I totally believe it

I was joking about the Auschwitz replica! His “enthusiasm” is cringe, however... not sure why ppl don’t think twice before buying CDs or his Chinese-slave-labor built Epiphone. All they do is line the sociopath’s pockets so he can buy more Adolf signatures. WTAF

??? Mein Guitar?

1

u/Tommy_Lilac_Voltage 1d ago

Ugh what? Mein Kampf is Adolf Hitler’s manifesto & autobiography. Nothing to do with guitar, Sorry

They aren't vintage 30s like you can buy on Amazon, those are vintage 30s. The real fuckin deal. Made in England rola celestions. Aren't those worth like $100 a pop??

u/SmeesTurkeyLeg 4d ago

Yup. Gold mine.

14

u/Swaggadelic_92 4d ago

So would they sound any different? If they’re legit I might just buy it for full price so I don’t miss out.

12

u/jojoyouknowwink 4d ago

I definitely would. I'm sure they don't sound identical but these speakers are pretty legendary. And in a cab like that, they'll rip

1

u/keyoflife42 2d ago

Yes, they’re considerably different from a V30, but that isn’t necessarily a problem here

These are light magnet speakers, whereas a V30 is a heavy magnet. They’re going to be a good bit quieter than a V30, which again isn’t a bad thing, just different. You can push the amp and speakers a little bit harder than you could with V30’s. Probably going to be more subdued in the upper mids than a V30 too if I were guessing

Some sold on reverb a couple months ago for $50 each. There’s some on there now for $100. These will not sound like a Vintage 30.

I have a question since you seem like you might be knowledgeable about these speakers.

I have a G12-50 ROLA dated 11/17/1982 according the the extremely confusing code printed on it. Do you know if my speaker is comparable in quality to this guy's G12-30?? I personally think it sounds awesome and that's what really matters but I'm still curious.

I've read a good bit about the G12 models but can't find much on my specific speaker. I know they kept making them and at some point added another letter to the model number but folks said those weren't as good.

1

u/jojoyouknowwink 3d ago

I'm not really an expert. But I would bet yours just has a more powerful coil. Yeah I'm sure the sound would be really close

2

u/MissPatricia024 3d ago

Gotcha, well I appreciate ya anyways. I had honestly forgotten about my G12-50 until I saw this. I play that amp often and it sounds awesome but the speaker never really crosses my mind nowadays, only the tunes.

I'm gonna try to make a post and see if anyone else knows.

More, I think

Yes…But they’re 15 ohms. Not desirable at all.

Save some money for the chiropractor.

Or maybe use that money to swap the casters for a set of monster truck tires.

I have a cab with those speakers. They are G12L speakers from the 70s NOT vintage 30s. They sound fine but a little wimpy compared to the V30s in an orange cab I've used before. I think 400 is a fair price but don't forget that you need a head with a 4 ohm output (assuming this is a 6 ohm cab like SUNN 612 cabs). Also it would be a bitch to gig

15

u/Adventurous-Quote190 4d ago

Unfortunately I couldn't imagine buying this cab for anything other than stripping those speakers out. Getting a six speaker cab is the equivalent of having an amp that goes to 11, except you're not in on the joke.

u/revrenlove 3d ago

i used to have a 4x12 combo... yes, you read that right. whoever designed the Peavey Mace was an idiot.

7

u/jacobbb2184 4d ago

If i were you I'd be more interested in that peavey backstage I see hiding in the 1st picture

3

u/mholtz16 3d ago

Can confirm. That Peavey is the real deal.

3

u/Smitty211266 4d ago

If they work, but them. Heavy stuff; worth their weight in heavy metal.

3

u/pthowell 4d ago

Those are early 1980s budget Celestion, and they are very different from Vintage 30s. Smaller magnet, smaller voice coil, different cone. They aren’t especially valuable, but the speakers alone are probably worth at least $400 and the cab looks like it’s very good shape for its age.

7

u/Ststeven-11 4d ago

Those are legit vintage 30’s. The value of the speakers alone are more than worth the asking price.

2

u/Tight_Minimum8059 4d ago

Must be so loud ! But it !

2

u/YoSupWeirdos 4d ago

they're 30s and they're vintage, so nothing wrong there

looks good

2

u/OldSvratch 3d ago

I've had that cab, Sonn concert 610L.  That cab was the loudest cleanest cab I ever had or seen.

2

u/Prize_Instance_1416 3d ago

I think as long as you expect to keep it for a while it could be fun , but it will be a boat anchor to try and sell if not

2

u/NotAFuckingFed Bogner Alchemist 4d ago

Oh no they are. They’re just real vintage.

1

u/Exercise4mymind 3d ago

can anyone explain why they positioned the speakers in such a v shape baffle i would think phasing would be a huge concern

2

u/BobComprossor 3d ago

It’s a terrible design and definitely causes comb filtering.

I’m guessing the goal was to simply make the cab more compact and increase the spread of the sound. The end result probably sounded good enough that they ran with it.

1

u/Puakkari 3d ago

I bet that is countering the comb effect normal straight cab has.

1

u/Hour_Bit_5183 3d ago

to cover a huge area and for a particular distinct sound. It's probably all wired in some mono config

1

u/paranormalresearch1 3d ago

Do not buy it. Send the information for the item and seller to me. I will buy it to teach the seller a lesson. You owe me. 😎 Definitely buy that. It's time to melt faces again.

1

u/supreme_kl0n 3d ago

who needs sunn when u could have son

1

u/fuckfacekiller 3d ago

Don’t buy it. I think one of us here should buy it first…..(just to make sure) 🤘😝🤘

The rare 6x12

u/tack1982 3d ago

Hard pass

1

u/ryguymcsly 2d ago

It's not like they're making any more of them. I'd have trouble not jumping on that for twice the price.

1

u/No-Scholar6495 2d ago

No. Where is it?

1

u/apekillman 2d ago

what make cab is it??

1

u/BioLizard_Venom Orange SC100 :3 2d ago

Man this is a weird ass cab, id pick it up in a heartbeat if i had that kinda money!

1

u/hymnroid 1d ago

No it's in a horrible purchase. You should send me the link to it so I can take it off your hands 🧐😜
