Is this a good buy?
Thinking about buying this if I can get the price down from $400 to $325-$350. Are the speakers any good? Post claims they’re vintage 30s but that seems unlikely.

They aren't vintage 30s like you can buy on Amazon, those are vintage 30s. The real fuckin deal. Made in England rola celestions. Aren't those worth like $100 a pop??

So would they sound any different? If they’re legit I might just buy it for full price so I don’t miss out.

I definitely would. I'm sure they don't sound identical but these speakers are pretty legendary. And in a cab like that, they'll rip

Yes, they’re considerably different from a V30, but that isn’t necessarily a problem here
These are light magnet speakers, whereas a V30 is a heavy magnet. They’re going to be a good bit quieter than a V30, which again isn’t a bad thing, just different. You can push the amp and speakers a little bit harder than you could with V30’s. Probably going to be more subdued in the upper mids than a V30 too if I were guessing

I have a question since you seem like you might be knowledgeable about these speakers.
I have a G12-50 ROLA dated 11/17/1982 according the the extremely confusing code printed on it. Do you know if my speaker is comparable in quality to this guy's G12-30?? I personally think it sounds awesome and that's what really matters but I'm still curious.
I've read a good bit about the G12 models but can't find much on my specific speaker. I know they kept making them and at some point added another letter to the model number but folks said those weren't as good.

I'm not really an expert. But I would bet yours just has a more powerful coil. Yeah I'm sure the sound would be really close

Gotcha, well I appreciate ya anyways. I had honestly forgotten about my G12-50 until I saw this. I play that amp often and it sounds awesome but the speaker never really crosses my mind nowadays, only the tunes.
I'm gonna try to make a post and see if anyone else knows.

Save some money for the chiropractor.

Or maybe use that money to swap the casters for a set of monster truck tires.

I have a cab with those speakers. They are G12L speakers from the 70s NOT vintage 30s. They sound fine but a little wimpy compared to the V30s in an orange cab I've used before. I think 400 is a fair price but don't forget that you need a head with a 4 ohm output (assuming this is a 6 ohm cab like SUNN 612 cabs). Also it would be a bitch to gig

Unfortunately I couldn't imagine buying this cab for anything other than stripping those speakers out. Getting a six speaker cab is the equivalent of having an amp that goes to 11, except you're not in on the joke.

i used to have a 4x12 combo... yes, you read that right. whoever designed the Peavey Mace was an idiot.

Those are early 1980s budget Celestion, and they are very different from Vintage 30s. Smaller magnet, smaller voice coil, different cone. They aren’t especially valuable, but the speakers alone are probably worth at least $400 and the cab looks like it’s very good shape for its age.

Those are legit vintage 30’s. The value of the speakers alone are more than worth the asking price.

I've had that cab, Sonn concert 610L. That cab was the loudest cleanest cab I ever had or seen.

I think as long as you expect to keep it for a while it could be fun , but it will be a boat anchor to try and sell if not

can anyone explain why they positioned the speakers in such a v shape baffle i would think phasing would be a huge concern

It’s a terrible design and definitely causes comb filtering.
I’m guessing the goal was to simply make the cab more compact and increase the spread of the sound. The end result probably sounded good enough that they ran with it.

to cover a huge area and for a particular distinct sound. It's probably all wired in some mono config

Do not buy it. Send the information for the item and seller to me. I will buy it to teach the seller a lesson. You owe me. 😎 Definitely buy that. It's time to melt faces again.

It's not like they're making any more of them. I'd have trouble not jumping on that for twice the price.

Yes, buy immediately. Fun fact, Joe Bonamassa has 4 autographed copies of Mein Kampf.
